– TI M E TO S P OIL Y O U R S EL F W IT H S O M E NE W G OO D IE S F O R Y O U R WARDROBE… The autumn is usually considered a boring season. It is windy and rainy, it gets dark early and it is freezing cold. Of course, but it is a fantastic season when it comes to fashion. Even if the weather gets colder and tougher, there are a lot of things to look forward to! You no longer need freshly painted toenails because you will be wearing shoes or boots. You no longer have to buy sunscreen. You can also consider giving your dried by the sun hair a treat at the hairdresser’s. When you flip through the fashion pages of this magazine, you will find that “We Looove Curves” is not just empty words. We really love curves! For us it is a genuine passion to create beautiful clothes for feminine female bodies with curves. You will see that we really put a great emphasis on the design, details and fit of each and every garment in the new collections from ZIZZI, ZJ and ZAY, which you will find here in this magazine.

My Favourites We have asked Bitten to select her 8 favourites from our new autumn collections. Bitten Jensen, 33 years old, lives in Copenhagen and sells Zizzi. Bitten has been working for Zizzi since 2006 and is always happy to present the new collections. As she says: “It has been exciting to follow how plus-size women trends have been constantly developing and becoming better and better in the past 4 years.”
“This feminine coat from ZIZZI is super hot! It fits perfectly, embraces the waist and has a nice collar that can be folded out as a bonnet.”

We Shoes... What is it really with women and shoes? We talk about them, dream about them and buy them – big time. Our passion for shoes is constantly growing, so much that shoes have become part and parcel of the entertainment industry. SHOE GLAMOUR
Many of us know Carrie from the popular TV series “Sex and the City” and her dependency on designer shoes from Louboutin, Jimmi Choo and last but not least Manolo Blahnik. Throughout the series and in the two films about Carrie and her three friends, beautiful, designer shoes that cost several hundred dollars are an indispensable ingredient that creates happiness, fun and drama. As far as literature is concerned, shoes have also made their entry. One latest example, Allan and Barbara Pease’s book with the ingenious title: “Why Men Don’t Have a Clue & Women Always Need More Shoes”. A title that most of us can identify with… They are an important part in fairy-tales too. Let us take Cinderella, for example. The story will not be the one we all love if it weren’t for a pair of delightful glass shoes.
500 YEARS ON HIGH HEELS Yes, we women love shoes. It is a love that lasts for a lifetime. However, it was actually the men who started wearing highheel shoes. Let us go back to the ancient Egyptians, where butchers walked in high-heel shows to avoid getting bloodstains on their feet. It was in the 16th century that women decided to go on high heels. In Italy, the Venetian platform shoes were very popular among distinguished citizens and when the Italian bride, Catherine d’Medici, aged 14, were to wed the French Earl of Orleans, she wore a pair of high-heel shoes in order to look more elegant and much taller than she was. Around the 17th century, women’s shoes had military heels. Solid, broad and symmetric. Meanwhile, shows became more decorated with straps, loops and buttons. In the 18th century, heels became slimmer, asymmetric and more feminine, also called “Pompadour heels”. At the end of the 18th century, however, around the time of the French Revolution, people started to regard high heels as something decadent. This is the main reason why for about 100 years shoemakers refrained from designing high-heel shoes. It was more than 500 years ago that the first high-heel shoes for women were created. Isn’t it amazing that our beloved stilettos are only 50 years old? It was not until 1955 that Parisian shoe designer Roger Vivier presented a collection of pointed shoes with high, thin heels for a Christian Dior fashion show.
BEFORE BUYING SHOES AND BOOTS When you want to buy new shoes and boots, fantastic design and reasonable price are not enough. It is about finding the brands and models that fit perfectly. All feet are different. They can be small, narrow or broad - some people have “Indian toes”, which do not go well with pointed shoes, while others have large feet or strong legs that require extra-wide boots. It is important to consider these differences, otherwise, the wonderful experience we women associate with buying new shoes and boots will never exist.

Did You Know? Louboutin’s red soles were designed by mistake. He felt that the shoes lacked one thing or another, so he tried painting the sole of the prototype with bright red nail polish. Ever since then the red sole has been his signature. In 2002 Jimmi Choo received the ”Order of the British Empire” award from Queen Elisabeth II for his contribution to the British shoe and fashion industry. Manolo Blahnik was the first shoe designer to have his fantastic shoes displayed at the Design Museum in London. The former Philippine dictator’s wife Imelda Marcos reportedly has more than 1,200 pairs of shoes. The FIRST SHOE BOUTIQUE in the USA opened in 1794. Stiletto heels of less than 5 cm are called ”Kitten heels”.

Put some shoe cream or leather grease on a piece of cloth or a soft brush and apply on SMOOTH FUR shoes. Leave them for a moment and then clean the fur with a soft cloth. SUEDE shoes and boots can look dull, so try cleaning them with steam. Cook water in a pot, remove from the heat and hold your shoes above the seam, but not too close. Once the steam has penetrated the suede, brush the shoes with a clean brush and let dry. What if your shoes get ugly ROAD SALT edges? Put some drops of milk on a piece of cloth and gently rub the salt edges. Clean with water and let dry. Finally, clean the shoes in the usual manner.

One Blazer Three Looks T H E B L A Z E R J A C K ET I S ONE O F T H E G A R M ENT S W E H A V E S TOLEN F R O M T H E M EN ’ S W A R D R O B E A N D IT B E C A M E ONE O F O U R F A V O U R ITE S IN NO TI M E . The blazer is a simple but brilliant idea because it looks different depending on what you combine it with. If you choose a black, wellfitting classic model like this one, you have the perfect starting point to create three very different looks.
1. TRENDY AT WORK
It is important to be neatly dressed at work. If you have to wear a uniform or follow a certain dress code, it is up to you to find a style that you feel comfortable with. A lovely blazer is a really good choice here! You get an elegant, business look when you combine a classic black blazer with well-fitting black trousers and a feminine white tunic as in the example here. The result is more than nice – excellent style!
2. CAFÉ-READY
It is wonderful to have a cup of coffee with friends in your spare time. You can choose a more relaxed look in this case – cool and trendy. By playing a little bit with contrasts, the noble and the raw, you can create a super chic look. In the example here, we have combined the noble blazer with raw denim jeans, a long, brightly-coloured tank top and a cool tunic with studs. The look is chic and trendy.
3. GORGEOUS FOR THE PARTY
When you are going to a party it is time to wake up your inner diva. You do not need a long evening dress to create a glamorous look and look like a million. On the contrary! Here we have combined a pair of tight black leggings, an ultrafeminine skirt with ruffled edge and a sumptuous spangled vest. The black blazer is just the icing on the cake, which gives the final touch to create a complete and sophisticated look. You are now ready for champagne and dances until the morning comes.

Any thinner would be dead Crystal Renn used to starve her way to being a model – today the American girl is a plus-size model (Size 44-46) and she is more successful than ever. By Ann-Kathrin Eckhardt © / Süddeutsche Zeitung / The Interview People. Photo: POLFOTO

D
uring the autumn fashion shows 2009 the fight about the dieting mania was reignited. The organizers of London Fashion Week called upon the designers to present their collections utilizing models of different clothing sizes. In France there is talk about compulsory explicit marking of photos that were post processed on the computer. The proposed legislation includes the following paragraph: if glossy magazines fail to indicate post-production, the fee would be 37,500 euros. Crystal Renn had to learn the hard way, what aiming at size zero means. The quest nearly killed her. Today, 22 years old and wearing plus-sizes, she is more successful than ever working for Gaultier, posing for Dolce & Gabbana and Vogue and doing ads for Mango and H&M. In her book “Hungry” Crystal Renn lines out her way to plus-sizes. Crystal Renn, a model scout discovered you at the age of 14 and told you that you had the possibility of becoming a supermodel – if you reduced your weight drastically. Were you willing to reduce your weight right away?
Sure! The scout showed me a magazine with Gisele Bündchen on the cover and he said: “That could be you.” I didn’t know Gisele at the time and neither did I care about fashion, but that woman was so unbelievably beautiful. I wanted to be like that. Initially there was no talk about the starving. I thought that I was going to eat healthier, do a little sport and that would get me where I wanted to be. But that was not how it went? No. At the time I was 1.73 m tall and weighted 75 kilograms. At the beginning I lost weight really fast, but then I stagnated at around 56 kilograms. So I intensified the training and the diet. I was eating salad with mustard without any oil, swallowed loads of water and I even had a guilty conscience about sugar-free chewing gum.
to land a 40,000 dollar job in two weeks I would have to lose weight till then. That’s when it made ’click’. The next day I went to the agency and told them that I was aiming at becoming a plus-size model. And after that I changed the agency. The chances on a career as a plus-size model are not too good. But you gained weight anyway? I wanted to both eat and be in Vogue. Different than other anorexics I never felt I hated food. The opposite actually: I couldn’t stop thinking about peanut butter. But it took me some months to find my weight of 74 kilograms that I maintain now. So you didn’t miss that said gap between your legs? No. In some weird way I enjoyed watching myself gaining weight. Suddenly the desire to eat had returned to my head. Right now you describe yourself as a plus-size model but on the other hand you say that your weight is that of a normal woman. How can that be? Not at all. I hate the term plus-size model. But unfortunately the industry uses that term for models like me. I hope for that to change. Do you believe that your story can change something in the fashion industry?
The time for change is right. The models can’t be any thinner. Any thinner would be dead.
How did your parents react? At the time you were only 14 years old after all. My mother was really concerned, but she knew that it made no sense to force me into eating. I paid attention to nobody. The opposite actually: the more people told me that I was too thin, the more I felt acknowledged. I thought that that was what made models models: people telling you that you were too thin. I was so very proud of that gap between my legs. You right away landed a 250,000 dollar modeling contract when you moved from Mississippi to New York when you were 16 years old. However, success didn’t come right away... Eve, my agent, thought that my 38 kilograms were too thin, but the looks were not the problem. The fact that I became increasingly more quite and totally apathetic was a lot worse. I lost my hair and I was all out of strength and expression. My joints and knuckles were hurting terribly. But I signed up for two gyms anyway, so I could train eight hours a day on the weekend without giving out people the impression that I was addicted to sports. Models are very often said to be braindead, but I think that some of us are simply starving to death. I wasn’t able to think clearly anymore. The customers realized that. When had the turning point finally come? After about two years. Despite the fact that I was only eating salad and running my ass off on the treadmill like a crazy person I didn’t lose but gain weight. My agency realized that and wanted to make new polaroids. I was totally desperate and trained for 16 hours the weekend before the shooting. I was done. But the first thing that my agent said when I entered the room was: “We need to get that weight off of you.” If I wanted
The time for change is right. The models can’t be any thinner. Any thinner would be dead. But of course I can’t do that all by myself. What is a lot more important than my story are the reactions of the readers and watchers. Glamour magazine recently received thousands of positive messages about a picture of my colleague Lizzi Miller with a real belly.
But isn’t it hypocritical for magazines to on the one hand print plus-size models and on the other hand indicating the new diet? In general there is nothing bad about diets – if you don’t overdo it the way I did. But diets do suggest women that they should lose weight.
Not when you are happy with your own body. That is the core issue. But that cannot be achieved through models like me presenting the collections. We should also be doing the advertising for lipsticks and the latest car. So you demand universal utilization of plus-size models? Certainly not! What I am calling for is a better mixture. Different heights, skin colors, ages. It would also be wrong to ban all models from the catwalks. There are women that are thin naturally. In the summer the head of Vogue in Britain wrote a letter to among others Versace, Prada and Chanel arguing that the dresses were becoming increasingly small and that the models had to be post processed to look thicker. Has anything changed since then? Hard to say. That depends a lot on the designers. In London the models were very thin again. But for example Jean-Paul Gaultier booked me without having seen me in real life before. He didn’t even know how I was running. He tailor-made the dress especially for me. Sophie Dahl, the first really successful plus-size model, had at some point gotten fed up with her role. Now she is thin again. Can that happen to you? No, certainly not.

The 60s-style Eyeliner Vivi frames Tina’s eyes with liquid eyeliner to create a feminine Hollywood look and give a nice contrast to the boy’s haircut. The lines at both ends must be very thin and must curve upwards at the outer corner of the eye.
Nice Matt Skin Tina’s skin tends to shine a little. So we should apply matting cream, followed by some rice setting powder. Café lattebrown eye shadow emphasises and shapes the face.

Smokey eyes To achieve a smokey eye look, apply a dark colour close to the eyelashes, blend out towards the eyebrow with the lightest part at the top. When you look forwards it must be possible to see some more colour above and under the eye. Apply a solid eyeliner on the upper and lower lash lines. Finish with lots of mascara.
Beautiful eyebrows Vivi shapes the eyebrows nicely and tones them in dark brown. This way she brings out the upper part of the face and creates balance with the down part.

Zumba YOU CANNOT HELP BUT FALL IN LOVE WITH
This is a direct quote from Signe Næssing, among the first 6 certified Zumba® Fitness instructors in Denmark. Signe originally comes from the advertising industry, after which she worked as a mountain guide, tour guide, fitness and training instructor. How did she actually get to know the Zumba phenomenon?
Do you know that you have to be a certified Zumba® Fitness instructor in order to legally teach at Zumba® Fitness? Zumba is a registered trademark where the certified pay a fee to use the name. It is also a guarantee that the instructor has not acquired his/her skills from a DVD at home.

O
ne day I watched MorgenTV and by chance saw the famous fitness instructor Birgitte Nymann, who has just come home from a large fitness congress in Las Vegas at which the latest exercising and fitness techniques were presented. That morning she showed some Zumba® Fitness and it was then that I realised that I wanted to learn. At that point it was not possible to get trained in Denmark, but the first Zumba® Fitness workshop had already opened in Sweden, so I took it and became a certified Zumba® Fitness instructor at the beginning of 2009. Ever since then, everything has run amok. I started teaching a class in Viborg, where I worked and now 100% of my income comes from teaching Zumba® Fitness. The class starts at around 17 and I have two or three classes per evening. I organise special classes on weekends and different events.

J U S T S TE P ON IT ! Zumba® Fitness is relatively new in Denmark. What should one expect when enrolling in a Zumba class? Roughly speaking it is ”old fashion” aerobics mixed with Latin American rhythms. This is fitness mixed with dancing, such as salsa, for instance. However, Zumba® is first and foremost about joy. The teaching is primarily based on interval training – there are some songs during which you exercise a lot and burn a lot of calories, and then the next song (that is much calmer) comes. High and low intensity alternate all the time. In other words, you are in a zone that you sweat a lot, but not so much as to die from breathlessness.
ZUMBA IS FIRST AND FOREMOST ABOUT JOY…
TIN G LIN G E X P E C TION S
There is no right and wrong in Zumba. It makes no difference whether you start from right or left, or turn the other way round. I have more than 100 participants in each class and we train in a large hall - no mirrors are allowed in the hall. Since there are no mirrors, people stop caring about what they look like. It does not matter how you look, just step on it.
E VE R Y ONE CA N J OIN US Are there any special prerequisites or do you need any special equipment to go to Zumba classes? And is it targeted at a special age group?
You have been a Zumba instructor for less than a year, and it is hard not to notice that you are very enthusiastic about it. How has Zumba affected you personally? Zumba is the best thing that has happened to me. I have the best job in the world! I see so many happy people. Before I go to a class, there is just a tingling feeling of expectation. People are ready, we just have to step on it! Can you imagine that in
TO GO TO ZUMBA IS LIKE ENTERING A POSITIVE LOOP. PEOPLE GET HIGHER SELF-ESTEEM, SMILE MORE, GET MORE GLOW IN THEIR EYES AND MORE RHYTHM… YOU CANNOT HELP BEING HAPPY WHEN DANCING ZUMBA
Zumba does not require anything at all. The people attending my classes are aged 19 to 82. Everyone can join us. Of course there is a big difference in the swing of their hips, but everyone does a whole spin. Needless to say you need to have some clothes on when you exercise. They must be loose and should not chafe the skin or be too tight. Do not wear too heavy or stiff shoes, or shoes with too much lining underneath, because it will be hard to move. There is no dress code – everyone is welcome to participate.
a little town as Karlskov, in a little town in the country, one Wednesday evening you can gather 120 people at one place for a class... It is fantastic! You can find more information about Signe Næssing and Zumba® Fitness on her website: www.zumbalicious.dk
A NI C E F EELIN G O F H A P P INE S S It is fantastic that Zumba is a tremendous success all around Denmark. In your opinion, what is the reason for this unbelievable popularity? I believe the reason for this is the joy associated with Zumba. We laugh a lot, smile, stamp and jump. We release a lot of endorphins, get a real energy boost and a pleasant feeling of happiness. I also believe that it does not matter how you look and how old you are. I think that 90% of the people coming to my classes cannot even dream about going to a fitness centre, but they get wild with Zumba.
ZumbaFever at ZIZZI The Zumba fever has also spread amongst ZIZZI employees. In fitness and sports centres around the country, ZIZZI girls participate in the amusing, sweat-inducing and sensational Zumba classes.
H O W D I D Y O U LE A R N ABOUT ZUMBA AND W H A T D O Y O U T H IN K A B O U T IT ?
The story behind Zumba® Fitness is ra ther simple. Columbia n dancer and chor eographer Beto Perez was to teach his aero bics class back in th e 1990s, but had left his music at home . This was a diffi cult situation, but he used what he coul d find – primarily trad itional Latin Am erican music, salsa and merengue With this music as a starting po int, he improvis ed NEW STEPS AND RHYTHMS an d the result was an unusual aerobic routine. It was a great success and this is how Zumba was born. Zumba is Columbia n slang for ”to mo ve fast and have fun”. To mo ve fast and be ha ppy.

I saw information about Zumba at the fitness centre where I train and I wanted to try it. Pooh! It is hard. You are sweating like a pig and you have to use your “gray cells” at the same time because you have to move your feet at the high pace of South American rhythms. It sometimes feels as if having 8 legs. But this is a really cool way to exercise.
sen, Skjøth Erik Henriette tor, na di or co Marketing ZIZZI
I heard from my colleagues how fun Zumba was and I had to try it. And they were absolutely right! Zumba is a big party! There is a group of women of all ages and sizes who dance and dance. It is very funny, you get to sweat a lot and your feet grow weak! One of the best things about Zumba is that you can laugh and have fun while exercising.
