Editorial fall 2011 no. 8
Autumn with Zizzi We looove curves - and we love when fall painst the forest in warm reds and browns. As fashion designers, we think nature is the perfect place to find inspiration. It is no coincidence that browns, blues and burnt colors define the fall collection. Soon the summer sun and warmth will be gone, replaced by the cooler, shorter days of autumn. This is also the time to put away the summer wardrobe, and we want you to enjoy the experience of bringing out the warmer clothes. If you need to find new clothes, we also want you to enjoy your shopping experience. At Zizzi we do not find it challenging to design plus size clothing. We think it a priviledge to create clothing that will beautifully fit on curves and shapes. We also love Martine, the winner of our big spring model competition, seated to the right of super model Tara Lynn in the picture below. It has been great to have Martine along when doing the fashion shoots, as you can see in this magazine.
Martine from Norway is not the only reader turned model in this magazine. You can also find Amanda Celeste, winner of a Facebook contest, getting a makeover and three new exciting looks. In this issue of Zizzi, we introduce our new accessory brand, Details by Zizzi. It was created the same way we create our clothes. Designed for curvy women, using Zizzi's knowledge and experience of the sorts of details that can really make a difference. We are truly looking forward to the day when shoes, scarfs, bags, jewelry and many other accessories in the stores will be designed to match the clothing lines. We are looking forward to fall flourishing around us, once again letting us get out our charming coats, colourful scarves and beautiful boots. Enjoy your reading

jeans guide At Zizzi we have a standard assortment of jeans for every mood – and body shape
Jeans are an indispensable part of both casual and party wear. But the rugged, slim fit means that it is important that they fit your personal body shape. Zizzi has designed two different jeans series – Nille and Sanna – which will fit everyone, and will be available in all sizes as part of our standard selection. This way, you can always count on finding your favourite jeans.
1-2-3 How to pick your jeans 1. High or normal? Sanna has a normal waistline, Nille has a high waistline. Nille lifts your waist and hides your belly with its waistline. Sanna draws attention to your waist and behind with its normal waist.
2. Slim, regular or extra slim?
3. Black, blue or washed?
If you want to level out your hips and go for a straight look, pick regular. If you want to show your curves go for extra slim with plenty of stretch.
Washed jeans are young, fresh and smart. Blue jeans are classic, simple and neutral. Black jeans are raw and rocky.

Adele

Zizzi Magazine | fall 2011
adele The great voice that breaks all records She beats both MAdonna and the Beatles. But this singer remains humble and feels truly sad when she has to disappoint her fans. And Adele does not care if she is in a line of work often focused on money and looks By Camilla Momme
The summer of 2011 will probably be one Adele will remember. Unfortunately, her memories will not be fond - even though her tour of the United States sold out after the release of her second succesful album ”21”. On July 3rd, her manager announced on her website adele.tv, that the last nine concerts in the United States had been cancelled. Adele had consulted a doctor after her blog entry on May 26th: ”I have been told to cancel my show in Minneapolis because my voice is gone. I'm completely devastated." An ear, nose and throat specialist diagnosed the 23-year-old Adele with acute laryngitis. In order to recover the use of her voice, she was told not to sing in the following weeks. Compared to Amy Winehouse This was a real shame for the British voca-
list. She had been riding a wave of success since her album ”21“ had hit the top of charts worldwide, after being released on January 19th of the same year. While her voice had still been intact, Adele sold out her show at Vega in Denmark on April 10th. A reviewer for the local paper BT, Jan Have Eriksen, wrote: ”First and foremost, Adele is a grand and gracious singer. It seems that her capacious voice spans the voices of great singers as different as Aretha Franklin, Joni Mitchell, Peggy Lee and Patsy Cline.” Adele's potent, soulful vocals have also drawn comparisons with another great British singer – Amy Winehouse. But other than the great voice, Adela and Amy Winehouse do not have much in common. Amy Winehouse threw her career away by using drugs, while Adele continues to focus on her musical career. ”I've never taken an illegal drug in my

the albums, I had my greatest musical epiphany."
“I want to be known for my music. I don't want to be in the press for having coke up my nose.” life. I want to be known for my music. I don't want to be in the press for having coke up my nose,” she told The Telegraph. Adele breaks all records Not even 25, Adele has broken records that few musicians would dare dream of breaking. Adele's debut album ”19“ was released on January 28th of 2008. Adele based many of the songs on her experience of being dumped by a boyfriend, that had cheated on her. She has never revealed who the boyfriend was, but she has previously said that her career grew out of troubled love, and that she therefore ended up getting more out of the relationship than he had. Her albums ”19“ and ”21“ refer to Adele's age when she recorded them. ”21“ was released on January 19th and its release made Adele the first artist since The Beatles to simultaneously have both two singles, ”Someone Like You“ and ”Rolling in the Deep“, and two albums in the top five of the British charts. It's worth mentioning here that The Beatles set their record all the way back in 1964. ”21“ ended up beating still another record, originally made by Madonna in 1990. Back then, Madonna's ”The Immaculate Collection“ was at the top of the british album charts for nine consecutive

weeks. Adele's second album made 13 consecutive weeks. Inspired by Spice Girls Adele Laurie Blue Adkins was born in Tottenham, London on May 5th 1988. Her mother was 18 at the time and Adele only met her biological father much later in her life. Adele has told us previously that she is not from a very musical home and that she therefore mostly listened to music from the charts. In an interview for Now Magazine, she explained how the Spice Girls inspired her: ”A lot of people don't think much of the Spice Girls. But I'm not ashamed to say that I love the Spice Girls. They made me who I am.“ Adele found her greatest musical inspiration when she bought some albums with American soul legend Etta James. She bought them because she wanted the same hairstyle as Etta James had on the cover. ”When I listened to
Musician or teen mom Adele was bored in her ordinary school and it felt like a lucky break to her when she transferred to the creative BRIT School for Performing Arts & Technology, where she got a chance to develop her creative side. Adele previously told News of the World that she would have probably ended up having her first child as a teenager if she had not transferred to the creative school. The new school also had a decisive impact on the beginning of Adele's career in music. She recorded three songs as part of a project that one of her friends put on Myspace. After that, the record company XL recordings contacted her, and they have been releasing her music since then. Size not an issue Adele's total worth has recently been put at more than £6 million. This placed her as the ninth richest on a list of British and Irish artists under the age of 30. But Adele is not in it for the money. She has previously told the Telegraph: ”I don't care about money, I'm used to having nothing at all. I'm glad to be able to donate to charity. It means a lot to me, because someone always was there to help my mother and me when we needed it." It also is not an issue for her that she is a size 16 in a line of work where the ideal is a size extremely thin. ”I don't find thin girls very attractive. It's never been an issue for me where friends and relationships are concerned. I'd rather have lunch with my friends, than spend my time in a fitness centre," she said in an interview with the Daily Mail.

Tip! Finding The right bra is important to make sure your top fits your bosom
#01
Ample bosom
Susanne says: V-neck or plunging necklines actually make your bosom seem smaller, making a cardigan like this a great choice.
An ample bosom is beautiful, but needs the right top. Look for tight fitting tops, which support the chest area without being too tight, v-necked knitwork which lengthens or a raw denim shirt for a casual look. Use long necklaces to create appealing lines on your body.

Susanne says: The denim shirt is a cool and casual solution, just check that it doesn't split at the chest, so it is better to buy a size too large than too small.

Ample belly
Iben says: A smart little layered dress means that noone will notice your belly.
When you have an ample belly, that you want to shift focus from, you should look for blouses and dresses that fit loosely across the belly, but are still fitted. This makes your silhouette more harmonious, while still showing your best side.

The story of jeans
Girlsgo grab your From work clothing to smart design Today it is quite natural for women to slip into a pair of gorgeous jeans and look hot for everyday life and parties – but getting there has been a long and tough struggle By Camilla Momme
It is morning. The alarm clock rings and soon you are peering deep into the closet. Everything is as usual. But then again. On the shelf where you normally keep your jeans the cupboard is gapingly empty. Actually there isn’t a single pair of pants in your cupboard and the clothes on the clothes rod are limited to dresses with crinolines. You are not going to work or to school, because you spend your day taking care of the house and your children until you get dinner ready when your husband comes home from work. Does that sound completely unthinkable? For the majority of contemporary women, yes, but it was the reality for the major part of Western women

way into the 20th century. “Right up until the postwar period it was unthinkable for women to wear pants. This started changing in the early 60s where it became socially acceptable for women to wear stretch pants and big sweaters. It was neither sexy or in the least sexy, and this made the style completely safe. Society could accept this,”Merete Ipsen, who is museum director at the Women’s Museum in Aarhus, Denmark, tells us. This stands in stark contrast to our times, where women are quite free to choose to dress sexily with the help of a pair of jeans. “Even though fashion changes I am sure that slim

fit jeans never disappear. Women know that they look really good in a pair of tight jeans and a pair of shoes with high heels,” says fashion editor at the Danish magazine Woman, Charlotte Sandgren. The first jeans for women After mainly being used as work clothes by miners and cowboys, jeans achieved a more popular breakthrough in the US during the depression at the beginning of the 30s. In order to survive the crisis financially, ranch owners in the West started opening their ranches to the middle class from the cities, who went out to the big farms to play cowboys at the so-called Dude Ranches. Both men and women started their holiday by buying cowboy clothes in the local shops. As a consequence of the popular Dude Ranch holidays Levi’s launched their Dude Ranch Duds Line. The collection comprised as model with the name Lady Levi’s and they were the first pair of jeans specially designed for women. In order to emphasize the feminine silhouette the model had a slimmer waist and legs compared to traditional jeans for men. Jeans in Vogue created drama The new holiday form put so much focus on jeans for women that American Vogue in 1935 ran an article on the new Dude Ranch fashion. The article caused a public outcry. The fashionistas of the period were definitely not ready to embrace the blue trousers and

that’s why the ladies obligingly put on their dresses when they got home from their holiday. But World War II was to change this. Because of the war American designers felt the lack of exclusive fabrics for their designs. The designer Claire McCardell chose to see this as a challenge. She was the first to design a denim dress in 1942. But the dress wasn’t very high fashion, which was why it was given the nickname Popover Dress. It was a more practical piece of clothing, which women could wear in the kitchen. This was why it had a strap for potholders sewn into the waist. It sold an impressive 75,000 copies in the first season on the market. Claire McCardell also designed a so-called coverall. A sort of overall that women could wear over their normal clothes when they worked at the factories while the men were at war. The popular dress paved the way for Harper’s Bazar running their first fashion series focusing on denim in 1943, where Claire McCardell’s popular clothes were shown. Film becomes fashionable for the new generation It was not until the films The Wild One and Rebel Without a Cause from 1955, starring Marlon Brando and James Dean respectively, that there was a real focus on jeans. The two actors were role models for the generation of young people, who were the first to be the youth generation. To them the look in the films with jeans and a T-shirt became a uniform, which showed their rebellion against the parental generation. For the women the new style was interpreted by Marilyn Monroe in the film River of No Return from 1954 where she is seen in a pair of jeans and a white top with a deep cleavage. However, Merete Ipsen believes that you can point to Marlene Dietrich as the biggest turning point as concerns women and jeans. When she arrived in Hollywood from Berlin in 1930 she insisted on wearing jeans and golf shoes, though this was not something women did at that time. “She gave the Hollywood bosses grey hairs. Her style was a provocation, but she was allowed to do it because she was such a big star. In this way she became a trendsetter and paved the way for women to start wearing jeans. She was a real rebel who would not put up with the limitations, which women were subject to.”

Levi's create the first pair of jeans for women. They are a slimmer version of the traditional work pants for men.
Designer Claire McCardell is the first to use denim in her collection, creating a practical dress for housewives.
The first generation of youths are inspired by actors Marlon Brando, James Dean and Marilyn Monroe and start wearing dark jeans with white t-shirts.
Due to the succes of the Dude Ranch holidays Levi's launched their first jeans for women - Lady Levi's. That was in 1935.
where the differences between men and women were narrowed. As jeans were work wear the young people were also showing solidarity with the working class by wearing their clothes. It was at this time that the striped milk boy pants had their heyday. They were originally used as a uniform for American railway workers.” While jeans were part of a counter culture in the 50s and 60s, they were so popular in the 70s that they spread to all parts of the population. In the book What We Wore the author Ellen Melinkoff notes: “In the 70s women could wear whatever they wanted. But all they wanted to wear was jeans.”
Brooke Shields was a model for Calvin Klein in 1980.
Challenging the traditional female role The battle for women’s use of trousers really broke out in the 50s when society was still characterized by traditional gender roles. “Women stayed at home and looked after the house in their fine dresses, while the men went to work. This changed when the young women started secondary school. They came out of the kitchen and starting being an active part of society. They needed greater freedom of physical movement and quite naturally started wearing trousers,”says Merete Ipsen. But not everybody was excited about the new development. In 1959 the American designer Anne Fogarty published the book Wife Dressing: The Fine Art of Being a Well-Dressed Wife. “You shouldn’t look like a labourer or mechanic when you are quite simply a wife.” Uniform for a new rebellion The battle for the pants had long since been won for the women when the youth rebellion started in the 60s. Jeans were again the uniform for those rebelling against previous generation, says Merete Ipsen: “It was now also about removing gender and class differences. Jeans help create the androgynous look
60's
70's
As women start to wear short skirts and bikinis to the beach, jeans grow tighter to emphasize the womanly curves as much as possible.
The golden age of bell bottom pants, which women customize by adding personal touches with pearls and patchwork.
80's
Jeans typically have a high waist in both front and back, making for a less flattering flattened behind. They fit tightly in the waist, but are more loose around the hips and thighs.
The first designer jeans In the wake of the popularity achieved by jeans in the general population, the American brand Jordache in 1978 launched the world’s first line of designer jeans. Designer jeans are characterized by having a more tailored fit than traditional jeans. The most wellknown jeans from that period are without a doubt the ones designed by Calvin Klein in 1980, launched with the 15 year-old Brooke Shields as campaign model. It turned out that jeans could still make finer citizens to snort indignantly, because it was not equally wellreceived everywhere that the young model in the advertising campaign sold jeans under the slogan: “You want to know what comes between me and my Calvins? Nothing.” Jeans: The safe choice While it took a while for jeans to become every woman’s, there is today no doubt that jeans are an important basis element in most women’s wardrobe. “Jeans are generally popular with women as the demand in the market is so great that everybody can find a model that fits. At the same time a pair of jeans can be used for both everyday life and parties if they are styled right. They can save any clothes crisis. Today jeans are the safe choice because you will not stand out from the crowd in jeans,” says Camilla Sandgren.
90's
The modern version of slim fit jeans are popularized, as are boot-cut jeans, which fit snugly around thighs and behind, but with flairing legs.
00's
Jeans generally get a more raw look with washed out thighs. The so-called boyfriend jeans that hang off the hip, are loose in the crotch and tighten slightly around the legs become the next big thing thanks to Kate Moss.

Zizzi introduces a lovely new brand with lots of exciting accessories for discerning women By Camilla Momme
Brannd Manager Heidi Hartvig Bloch
A scarf that is just those 20 cm longer, to let it be tied in knots or wrapped loosely round the neck. A bag with a strap of just the right length. High boots with extra width – all of it designed so it fits with Zizzi's different collections and models. Details by Zizzi is the name of Zizzi's new accessory brand, which is now available in Zizzi's stores. Details by Zizzi is available for purchase in Zizzi stores and new items are added each month. Heidi Hartvig Block from Zizzi has created the new brand. "We want to give our customers accessories suited to just their needs, style and bodies. Necklaces and armbands are longer and the gloves of the season are both wider and longer than gloves from other brands. I am especially fond of one of the belts from Details by Zizzi. It is basically 130 cm long. The trick is that you can remove the buckle and cut the belt to fit you, and then re-attach the buckle," Heidi Hartvig Block explains. Based on ZAY, ZIZZI and ZJ When Heidi Hartvig Block and her colleagues design items for Details by Zizzi, they base them on the trending colors from Zay, Zizzi and ZJ, so clothes and accessories will match. The current collection is based on the colors you would see in a forest floor: burned orange, brown and armygreen with added off-white. While the trending colors of the seasons change, one thing remains constant for Heidi Hartvig Block: We make smart accessories for the discerning customer, who knows what's happening fashion-wise without it getting too commercial. Our customers don't just tag along with any trend. Details by Zizzi is for girls who enjoy having a personal style, and who have a strong sense of details.

Amanda Celeste Brekke met many inquiring eyes when she stepped into the studio at Nørrebro, Copenhagen. She had won second place in Zizzi's model competition and came straight from the airport, entering to meet a make up artist, a fashion stylist, a photographer and a swarm of assistants and helpful people from Zizzi, bringing clothes. “It was great fun getting a makeover in Denmark. We were busy and everything moved very fast, but we it was fun and exciting, and there was a bit of time for relaxing during makeup and hairdressing,” Amanda explains. “I always wanted to try being a model, and it actually turned out to be just as fun and exciting as I had hoped.” Finding clothes for Amanda was easy, as she was not afraid of trying out new things. I feel comfortable and good looking in all these clothes, but if I am to pick a favourite outfit, it would be the party look," Amanda tells us with a big smile. Show the curves Stylist Sarah Paaschburg helped create Amanda's new looks: “When dressing curvaceous women, the idea is not to hide the curves in anonymous outfits, but rather to stay focused on the good sides, and show the feminine forms at their best. You do that by camouflaging the places that aren't too confidence inspiring and instead emphasizing the individual good sides. In this way you can create a more harmonious overall impression,” she says.
How we did it Amanda was given an elegant outfit that can be worn both for work and for cozy café trips with girlfriends. The outfit with the print pants styled with black t-shirt and cardigan is classical while also fresh because of the wonderful print. The outfit suits Amanda because the different lengths
in the outfit form great vertical lines, which lend length to the body. The deep neckline makes her neck seem longer, which is supported by a long necklace.
Amanda's opinion I really feel at ease in these clothes, and I am particularly happy with the top.

Party
How we did it An elegant and festive outfit with plenty of wonderful, classy details. Amanda is dressed in a classical A-shaped shirt which camouflages the belly area. Instead, focus is on her arms, and the legs are made extra long and shapely with a pair of high-heeled
pumps. A pair of raw leggings are once again used to add power to the outfit and give contrast to the elegance and achieve a more personal look. Jewelry is a good way of adding lines to an outfit and a pair of long earrings or a long necklace are therefore an essen-
tial part of any wardrobe meant to add long lines.
Amanda's opinion I feel really fine and festive in these clothes. They're definitely my favourite out of all the clothes I tried on.

How we did it Here, Amanda wears a more casual outfit, where a few great details accentuate her shapes in the best way. A simple blouse was used as the basis. The black color camouflages the belly, helped by a wide black belt. This is matched to a pair of classic shorts in a lighter color, which again emphasizes and draws attention to the great pair of legs instead. This outfit includes many nice details, and in Amanda's case the use of raw accessories is important because they add an edge to her outfits and strengthen her appeal.
Amanda's opinion This outfit is comfortable and I love weaing it. I particularly like the shorts.
Tip! Burnt and warm autumn colors underline a pleasant and comfortably casual look
