These efforts raise awareness, promote advocacy and provide much-needed support for local charitable organizations and schools. Since 2006, $1.5 million has been donated.
In partnership with Rosemary Beach Realty and Cottage Rental Company, the Foundation hosted its 6th Annual Rosemary Beach Holiday Tour of Homes. Over 700 guests toured seven homes decorated for the season.
The 2024 event benefitted Alaqua Animal Refuge and Caring & Sharing of South Walton. Each received $25,000 to further their missions and services.
Created in collaboration with Florida State University faculty, the Rosemary Beach Foundation offers the Music in Pictures arts in education initiative. This program encourages lifelong appreciation of symphonic music, enhances learning and provides educational enrichment.
In January, a professional development workshop conducted by artist and educator, Patti Overholt, provided instruction on water color techniques. Teachers shared methods used in the classroom to promote self-expression, creativity and confidence.
Over 4,000 students (Kindergarten – 12th grade) from 21 Walton County Schools participated in the 2024/2025 project. While listening to classical compositions by Max Richter, students created visual interpretations of the music. The juried art exhibition (February 24 - April 4, 2025) features 384 paintings.

In this Rosemary Beach Staff Profile, we learn about Keith Kee, a member of the Rosemary Beach Maintenance Team. In this role, Keith and the rest of his team work to make sure all elements of the town, from rental homes to the boardwalks, are kept in pristine shape.
Learn more about Keith below:
By Maggie Jackson
Could you tell me about your role at Rosemary Beach?
I am on the maintenance team. The maintenance team covers all the common area maintenance, including the pools, showers, trash cans, and more—basically, anything that is commonly used in the town. This covers a wide range of things, including rebuilding the boardwalks. We try to get big projects like that done during the off-season, which I call the reset period, which makes it feel almost like a movie scene.
How long have you worked on the Rosemary Beach team? How has the community changed over the years?
I started in March of 2011. The maintenance team collectively has been there the longest out of everybody who works there. I think I am the third longest working employee at Rosemary Beach, and I have seen so much change over the past thirteen or fourteen years. I remember things when Summer Kitchen was on the north side of town in Barrett Square. I was there when the Owner’s Center was built. It is overall still the same [in Rosemary Beach], but some things are done differently, like the events that are put on. Everything is now on a larger scale since the town reached its buildout. It has always been a popular spot!
What is your favorite part of working at Rosemary Beach? Do you have any stories/examples you can share?
My favorite part is working with my team. We have all been together for so long, we have watched each other’s children grow up. You grow to become more than coworkers with your team.
What do you like to do in your free time?
I have a pretty big family. I have six children, so my time is spent with them. My oldest daughter is a cheerleader, my son is playing basketball and my youngest children play little league sports. I am a huge college football fan, so we love to travel to Florida Gator football games. My wife is a fifth-grade teacher, and we all love spending time together as a family.
The overall experience of working at Rosemary Beach has always been positive. I have brought my family here and they enjoy it. The team is like family members.

Anyone who lives, works or visits the Emerald Coast knows the wide breadth of artists and musicians that proudly call the area home. Chris Godber, a Billboard Top 25 saxophonist, is one of these artists who performs for special and private events, enchanting audiences with a wide contemporary and jazz repertoire.
The Journey to Billboard Top 25
Godber’s musical journey began against a backdrop of frequent change. Raised by his father who was in the U.S. Air Force, Chris Godber was born in Panama City, but his family’s frequent moves helped shape his resilience and love for music. From a young age, Godber was drawn to the saxophone, despite being told by doctors that his asthma would prevent him from playing.
“I wanted to prove them wrong,” Godber said. “In fact, music became a therapy, helping to ease my asthma.”
His family moved back to Panama City in 2000 after his father retired from the Air Force, and though he didn’t play in high school due to his focus on joining the military through ROTC, life had other plans. Godber’s asthma ultimately prevented him from serving in the military, and by the time that door closed, it was too late to join the school band. Yet, Godber remained committed to music, frequently performing at church and discovering another avenue for fueling his passion—playing at weddings.
Today, Godber balances his music career with his work as a part-time respiratory therapist, bringing first-hand understanding of breathing conditions and the challenges they can bring. He’s been able to carve out a successful career, having toured and played with a variety of notable artists, including Sara Evans, Rachael Lampa and Dr. John, among others.
One experience Godber fondly remembers was when Dancing with the Stars came to tour in the area, and he was invited to perform.
“ Dancing with the Stars was a neat experience because you see these people on TV and then you are hanging out in the green room with them,” Godber said. “They had me be an opener and then, a featured act the following year. You think a lot of the stuff is rehearsed before, but we would pick out songs backstage.”
Another memorable performing experience for Godber was with country music star T. Graham Brown when he toured a few years ago in Panama City.
“When T. Graham Brown came into town a few years ago, I was asked very last minute to play a song. He stopped the song and asked my name and then asked me to do another solo. Nobody had ever stopped the show to find out who I was before,” Godber said.
Godber’s musical endeavors have remained diverse and expansive. His most recent project, a gospel jazz album released in Fall 2023, is a project he’s particularly proud of. In 2015, his album entitled Starting Over launched him into the smooth jazz spotlight with the chart-topping hit, Rain and Chill .
In one of his latest compositions, Meant 2 Be , Godber reflects on his musical journey.
“Music is such a powerful force that brings people together, and I think we need more of that,” Godber said. “Despite doctors telling me I couldn’t do it, God gave me the ability to play with my asthma. I tell my story everywhere that I play because I want to resonate with people just as much as my music. You never know who is out there listening and who needs to hear something inspiring. That is the message of God’s grace, hope and healing. That is why I do what I do.”
His smooth jazz compositions have earned a place on major streaming platforms like Spotify, iTunes and Pandora. Godber’s soulful tone and soothing melodies can also be heard on the SIRIUS XM Watercolors station.
Godber has become a staple at events across the Florida Panhandle. His ability to create an elegant and relaxing atmosphere has made him a sought-after artist for a variety of weddings and events, especially in places like Rosemary Beach. The Seabreeze Jazz Festival, held every April in Panama City, is one of Godber’s favorite events as it is where he gets to showcase his talents while soaking in the energy of the crowd.
Looking ahead, Godber is eager to expand his presence at more public events.
“I’m focusing on private events now, bringing my unique touch to weddings and gatherings,”Godber said. “If you’re planning a wedding, especially a beach wedding, book your entertainment early. It’s never too early to secure your entertainment.”
When he’s not performing or creating new music, Godber enjoys spending time with his wife and two children. He also indulges in another passion—cars. Godber is a car enthusiast an d has been working on restoring a Nissan Z for quite some time.
While the majority of Godber’s spring and summer performances are booked for private events, he said he hopes to begin booking more public events in the area soon.
Fans and event planners alike can connect with Chris Godber through his official website at chrisgodber.com, and they can also find his music streaming on major platforms like Spotify, Pandora and iTunes. Fans can also follow Godber on Facebook, Instagram and YouTube for updates on his latest projects and upcoming performances.

Look for a professional who provides styling advice, pre-session planning, and the option to create heirloom-quality keepsakes, such as custom albums, wall portraits or fine art prints. These options allow you to preserve your memories in a way that feels personal and timeless, giving you the flexibility to decide what best commemorates your special moments.
• Clear Communication and Precision Planning: This is especially critical for surprise proposals. Your photographer should ensure every detail—from timing to positioning—is handled with precision, allowing you to focus entirely on the moment.

Those of us lucky enough to live in Northwest Florida know that our area boasts many things to celebrate, but none more so than our gorgeous Gulf of Mexico. We are known as the Emerald Coast after all! Among the many ways to enjoy the clear, calm waters of the Gulf is to don your mask, snorkel and flippers and check out the abundant wildlife and beauty found just offshore.
The natural sea floor of the Gulf of Mexico is mostly flat and made of mud, sand and clay, which doesn’t provide an ideal habitat for large, natural reefs to grow. However, some local organizations, artists and scientists have worked to create multiple artificial reef sites that attract fish, crustaceans, turtles and other wildlife to serve as beacons for snorkelers and scuba divers.
The mission of the South Walton Artificial Reef Association (SWARA) is to “develop and maintain an extensive artificial reef system offering divers, snorkelers, fishermen and researchers
near-shore access to a thriving marine ecosystem,” focusing on conservation, recreation, education and research. SWARA technically started in the mid-90s but only deployed four reefs until 2013. Since then, however, SWARA has helped to fundraise, spearhead and deploy over 700 reefs at 16 different sites along the waters off Walton County: there are snorkel reefs—those closer to shore at depths that do not require scuba equipment–near-shore dive sites and fish havens.
Artificial reefs take many forms–sunken vessels, clean concrete or steel structures and even giant works of art, but they all serve as havens for many species of marine wildlife, offering protection amid the open sea floor. An artificial reef can start attracting fish within only 24 hours. Walt Hartley, SWARA President, notes that the county’s unique dune lakes allow the marine species at the snorkel reefs to thrive. Found in only a handful of places throughout the world, dune lakes are fed by streams and runoff and are connected to the Gulf
by channels called outfalls, which open after periods of heavy rain to pour fresh water into the Gulf; these outfalls also allow salt water to flow back into the dune lakes, creating brackish environments in which both fresh and saltwater species can thrive. Of the four animal-shaped snorkel reefs, the ones located closest to dune lake outfalls – the sea turtle reef at Grayton Beach, the grouper reef at Inlet Beach and the seahorse reef at Topsail Hill State Park – all attracted diverse marine species very quickly.
“The dolphin reef at Miramar Beach took much longer to thrive, though it’s doing well now because it isn’t as close to a dune lake outfall,” Hartley said. “The sites near the dune lakes that have exposure to brackish water showcase a much higher diversity of plant and wildlife. When the dune lakes open up, the already-established marine life all show up to see what’s going on. There is a noticeable uptick in sharks, dolphins, etc. around the reefs closest to the dune lakes.”
In addition to the reefs deployed off the coast of Walton County, SWARA has worked with organizations in the surrounding counties for nearby projects, including the recent deployment of the ship DEEP STIM III, a 239-foot former research vessel sunk on January 30, 2024. A collaborative effort between Walton County, Destin-Fort Walton Beach and
Panama City Beach, with additional funds raised by SWARA and the Emerald Coast Reef Association, the DEEP STIM III became the second largest artificial reef in the northern Gulf of Mexico, behind the USS Oriskany. DEEP STIM III sits in about 130 feet of water roughly 31 nautical miles southwest of St. Andrews Pass. Hartley notes how ideal this ship was for an artificial reef because of its huge bridge, tower and five total decks with a lot of open space. The large, open deck space allowed engineers to install additional concrete pilings and pyramids for additional reef complexity.
One of the most ambitious artificial reef endeavors in Walton County seeks to join our vibrant artistic community with conservation and innovation. The Underwater Museum of Art (UMA), the country’s first permanent underwater sculpture exhibit, was established in 2017. A collaboration of SWARA and the Cultural Arts Alliance of Walton County (CAA), the UMA sought design ideas from local and national artists and deployed the first seven sculptures in the summer of 2018. Since then, the UMA has deployed new sculptures each year, offering a ‘Call to Artists’ to submit proposals. The proposals are then reviewed by panels of arts and marine specialists and winning artists have six months to complete their structures. In December of 2024, UMA announced the 2025 installations: Seahorse by Jessica Bradsher (Greenville, NC), Concretion by William Braithwaite (United Kingdom), The Neptunian Oak by Nathan Hoffman (Highlandville, MO), Happy Hour by Sarah Wilkinson (United Kingdom) and Hometown by Mandy Yourk (Panama City, FL). These five new structures will bring the total number of UMA structures to 52.
One of SWARA’s upcoming projects will be to raise, repair and redeploy four of the oldest UMA sculptures that have suffered damage from unintentional anchor strikes. Many of the smaller statues no longer show up clearly on depth finders, resulting in accidents. For instance, Justin Gaffrey’s Self Portrait, an eightfoot welded steel deer that was one of the first statues deployed for the UMA, suffered an anchor strike that knocked the deer’s head to the bottom of the sea floor. Boaters should be aware that there is a large ‘super pyramid’ structure at the edge of the UMA sculpture field that serves as an easily identifiable point beyond which no anchors should be dropped. SWARA has also been working with local dive shops and charters to spread awareness about where to safely drop anchors to dive the site to help keep from damaging the sculptures. Hartley notes that monitoring the various sculptures that are added each year and seeing how they fare also allows for updated guidelines to the construction requirements; for instance, the UMA is veering away from sculptures made only of metal in favor of those made from clean concrete, which should potentially not need repair for up to 30 years.
Though Hartley admits that the rapid deployment of new reefs in the late 2010s has slowed some, that does not mean the organization is not busy with monitoring and new projects. In addition to repairing the damaged UMA structures, SWARA is focusing on community engagement, with “more outreach, more dives, more cleanup, more website updates and more
community involvement,” Hartley said. In addition to these initiatives, there is also the task of monitoring the reefs to study their growth. Each site is visited by SWARA divers at a minimum of twice a year, though most sites are monitored at least quarterly. Monitoring the success of these sites is a huge part of SWARA’s mission. One of the first things to look for is the growth of algae over a structure, which takes place within the first three to four months of deployment; additional changes like the buildup of corals can be seen within the first nine months to a year after deployment. After that, monitoring ensures that the reefs are thriving and no damage is present. SWARA is also adding an innovative method to its monitoring process using ROV technology, which allows divers to make accurate 3D models of all reef sites.
“ROV technology will allow for more accurate laser measurements, help create interactive online models for nondivers and ease problems on days when visibility is low or too many bait fish surround the structures for us to take accurate measurements. These measurements also allow us to measure growth of algae and corals and identify new species sheltering in the reefs,” Hartley said.

News the way kids like to tell it... all good, mostly true and, of course, totally earth shattering.
by CHRISTIA PALIZZI
Dallas (2) gave up her paci and earned a cake pop and beautiful pink mermaid. She was very excited but it was a very hard decision.
Tripp (4) loves hammerhead sharks the most and chocolate sprinkle donuts. He also likes the scary sharks. He picked out a bucket full of sharks to remember his trip to the beach.
Rhett (5) rode his first roller coaster: SPACE MOUNTAIN! He rode it twice in a row, the slinky dog dash twice in a row and is now a roller coaster fan for life.
Rhodes (7) started a spa business at Christmas time. She charged anyone that wanted a pedicure. Most people chose hot pink or brown. She spent some of the money she earned at Gigi’s. She also rode Space Mountain and The Slinky Dog Dash at Disney World. She loves all rollercoasters.
Emilia (12) went to her first concert! One of her favorite singer/rappers
Qveen Herby was at the House of Blues in Orlando and she was able to go. Magically, in line she and her mom made friends with someone in the merch line who then graciously gifted them daypasses to Universal Studios! It was such a magical experience. She also figured out and executed the perfect layup in her most recent basketball game!
Finley (3 almost 4) found a bone on his family’s farm. He knows it’s a dinosaur bone and takes it with him everywhere. He likes to help with the chickens and the dogs. He lives dinosaurs and monster trucks. He
Jude (1) just got his passport photo taken so that he can spend part of the summer in Ireland. He took the no smile thing very very seriously.
Brighton (3) was promoted to the role of big sister. Her baby sister is Blair and Brighton actually named her. Luckily, mom agreed. Brighton is obsessed with her baby sister and got to feed her a bottle for the first time. She just had an Elsa birthday party right before her baby sister joined the family.
Fields (3) has been having so much fun with his monster trucks. He likes to get them super dirty and then wash them off. He is also really excited for his uncle’s wedding where he’s playing the role of ring bearer.
Teddy is excited to play the role of the Tin Man in The Wizard of Oz in spring. He had a feeling that was the role he would get and he did! He’s also been crocheting again. He’s made bacon, pop tarts and blankets for his sister’s calico critters.
Ava (8) from Gainesville came to the beach with her grandma. They have gone on some pretty cool adventures,
including the caverns in Mariana, FL and seeing the manatees in Crystal River, FL. She’s had the best time and loves mint chocolate chip ice cream.
Elias and Oliver are thrilled to become big brothers to baby Banks Andrew. They’re both even willing to share their Jelly cat collection with them. He was born on Valentine’s Day and is seriously such a cutie little love. Welcome, Banks!
Emerald Coast Theater Company’s Troupe 89447 is so excited to represent at the state competition in Orlando! They received Superior on their one act! The set design and costume design participants also received superior. While medals and swag are exciting they made amazing memories and bonded as a troupe.
And now onto the lost teeth…
Olivia lost her first tooth! She put it in a special pillow for the tooth fairy and she came to visit.
Owen (14) unceremoniously lost his final baby tooth. He sent his mom a text informing her of the event. No more tooth fairy visits for him.
Emilia lost a tooth and got her first set of braces off on the same day. Once the brackets were off the tooth just fell out. The tooth fairy definitely came.
Emilia (12) got her first phase of braces removed! It started off with an expander and brackets and things moved quickly after that. The next phase will start when she loses the rest of her baby teeth. She hopes it’s before high school.
Silas lost his first tooth. It was just wiggly and he pulled it out. He didn’t want the tooth fairy to take his tooth so he went into his room and hid it from her. As of time reporting he still has his tooth.
