M&T BANK GAME PREVIEW

QUOTH THE RAVEN “We are obviously not in the most ideal situation possible, but we still have eight games left. I feel like we have the opportunity to play really good football. We just have to make sure to keep the focus on that. I think there is obviously a bigger threat now to [avoid] letting this stuff affect you mentally, let it affect the team and how we are gelling together. We just have to combat that by being ourselves and by being as tough as we possibly can be and take each game one game at a time.” – QB Joe Flacco on how the Ravens rebound after falling to 4-4

After playing four of their past five on the road, the Baltimore Ravens (4-4) are back home to face the rival Pittsburgh Steelers (4-2-1) in a Week 9 battle today at M&T Bank Stadium. Pittsburgh has won three-straight games (and four of its last five), while the Ravens look to bounce back from two-consecutive defeats. Last Sunday at Carolina, things started well in the Ravens’ 36-21 loss to the Panthers. Baltimore produced an 11play, 75-yard scoring drive that ended with RB Alex Collins’ 14-yard TD run to open the game. The Ravens then gave up 24-consecutive points in the next 16 minutes and trailed 24-7 at the half, en route to dropping their third away game of the season. Baltimore, which entered the contest with the NFL’s No. 1 “D” for scoring (14.4 ppg) and yards (280.6), never slowed Carolina’s offense, which provided the most points scored against the Ravens this season and nearly 400 yards (386). In Week 4, the Ravens’ defense shut out the Steelers in the second half on the way to an impressive 26-14 win at Heinz Field. Baltimore limited Pittsburgh to 284 total yards (only 19 rushing), including just 47 in the second half. The Ravens jumped to a 14-0, first-quarter lead on a pair of QB Joe Flacco TD passes to WR John Brown and RB Alex Collins. K Justin Tucker then converted 4 FGs in the second half to seal the victory. Flacco finished 28-of-42 for 363 yards (the most ever

INSIDE THE NUMBERS The Ravens have scored TDs on 21 of their 29 red zone drives this season, producing a 72.4% TD success mark, which ranks as the NFL’s fourth-best figure. Pittsburgh (75.0%) stands No. 2 in the league.

Under John Harbaugh, the Ravens are 11-10 vs. Pittsburgh in the regular season and 1-2 in the postseason. (The overall series is split, 12-12, since the coach’s 2008 Baltimore arrival.) In his 11th season at Baltimore’s helm, Harbaugh has led the Ravens to a 108-74 overall record (10-5 postseason), posting the NFL’s fourthmost total victories since his 2008 arrival. The Ravens have played in three AFC title games (2008, 2011 & 2012) under Harbaugh, while in 2012, he guided the franchise to its second Super Bowl victory. 2018 BALTIMORE RAVENS GAMEDAY | 5

“You get right back in the lab, you get right back on the practice field, weight room, meeting room, JUGS machine, whatever it might be for your position, and you go back to work. You don’t lament it. Yes, [losing] stings. It hurts. Every time you think about it, it bothers you, because nobody wants to lose a football game. You have an opportunity, and then it’s lost. But you have to make it up now. You have to go win more games in the future than you would have had to previously. So, you go back to work, and all of our players look at it that way.”

I would love to be considered on the Mount Rushmore of Ravens. Just knowing I gave everything I have to this organization, to this city, to my fans, and that I was one of their own. – terrell suggs

By Claire Kramer

Pro Bowler. Father. Filmmaker. Jokester. Super Bowl Champion. Future Hall of Famer. Legend. People call Terrell Suggs by many names, but only two words compose what he strives to be: The best. From a 20-year-old draft phenom to a linebacker learning Ravens defense from the likes of Ray Lewis and Ed Reed, to taking the torch and continuing his reign as King of Sacks, Dominant Defender and Jokester Supreme, Suggs’ booming presence has shaken the ground like thunder. The proud representative of Ball So Hard University is predictably unpredictable. Fifteen and a half years removed from his draft day, he’s still got his youthful vigor. It began in 2003 with proving himself: going hard on every snap to watch his numbers rise. It paid off, netting him 2011 NFL Defensive Player of the Year Honors. Then, the next step: a championship, to make everyone else around him better for the sake of the Lombardi Trophy. And finally, a legacy: leading players – rookies and veterans alike – to greatness, not for his personal gain, although a welcome side effect, but for the sake of The Team. Because beyond the sacks and tackles and QB hits, Suggs has emerged as a fearless leader, confident to no end in his teammates and himself.

I’m just going to have to be a soldier in this army and do my part. … The rookie motto is ‘Be seen and not heard.’” – TERRELL SUGGS AT THE START OF HIS CAREER

2OO3 605 tackles, 72.5 sacks, 129 GP, 113 GS “When I was younger, the only things that mattered were individual awards, individual gratification. With Pro Bowls and sacks, I did pretty well. But those days have come and gone. Now, the No. 1 objective, the only thing left to do, is win a championship. I want it so bad, it’s scary. For years we’ve been on the brink. I’m tired of being on my couch watching other guys play in the biggest game in the world. I don’t want to be known as a player who almost got it done.” – TERRELL SUGGS IN THE MIDST OF HIS NFL DEFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE YEAR CAMPAIGN

2O11 881 tackles, 119 sacks, 197 GP, 181 GS “We are not playing good football right now. I don’t really have any answers for you. Yeah, defensively we are not playing really good football. … For me, being the veteran on the defense, I take more of the blame for that than anything because I know how we are supposed to play. I know how it is supposed to look. Like I said, I am just extremely frustrated and disappointed. But we can’t concede, because we are not out yet.” – TERRELL SUGGS MIDWAY THROUGH HIS 15TH SEASON

2O17 14 | 2018 BALTIMORE RAVENS GAMEDAY

191 tackles, 31 sacks, 48 GP, 33 GS "I want the world to remember that I was here. That is very important to me. We will never forget ‘L.T.’ [Lawrence Taylor], Derrick Thomas or Reggie White. They will always be a part of the NFL and its history. I don't just want to be an average football player in this league. I want to be dominant. I don't want to be a ghost when I am done with the game or when the game is done with me. I guess my desire for my name to live through the ages is what really drives me." – TERRELL SUGGS

2OO6 682 tackles, 84.5 sacks, 149 GP, 133 GS "It finally hit me, what exactly we accomplished together. It didn't take a year. It took me 11 years to get it. It took Coach [John] Harbaugh [from] when he got here in 2008. It finally paid off, all that blood given. There's not a word that describes what I'm feeling and all the emotions. … The journey was long, but it was worth it. But I will tell you this, I damn sure want to feel like this again.” – TERRELL SUGGS UPON RECEIVING HIS SUPER BOWL XLVII RING

2O12 927 tackles, 131 sacks, 221 GP, 205 GS “‘Sizz’ is good with all of them in [our defensive] room. He is fantastic, and he can break down each guys’ game and say, ‘Here’s what I need to see from you.’ It really sounds like a coach, but obviously, it means a lot more when ‘Sizz’ is saying it to them – a guy who has been Defensive Player of the Year and all his accolades, Pro Bowls and everything else.” – DEFENSIVE COORDINATOR DON MARTINDALE ON SUGGS AS A MENTOR

10/11 During the second meeting of the Flock Above mentorship program, Ravens DB/LB Anthony Levine Sr. spoke to students about planning for their futures and the importance of education.

SALUTE TO SERVICE The Ravens continue to honor veterans and active duty members of the military with today’s Salute to Service game. There will be a number of military elements featured during today’s game, including the singing of our national anthem by musician First Class Kenny Ray Horton, member of the naval band Country Current, as well as presentation of the Color Guard by Joint Forces Active Duty and Vietnam Veterans, and a flyover by four A10s from the MD National Guard. A large American flag will be held by service members with five branch stars represented around the flag, and select service men and women will run out of the tunnel for player intros with the starting lineup. The Ravens also continue supporting their season-long initiatives: Hometown Hero and Seats For Service presented by Dietz & Watson.

During halftime, the team will host a flag football game – with two 10-person teams made up of alumni Ravens players and current military members. Throughout the game, Baltimore’s Marching Ravens will present patriotic songs, Ravens Cheerleaders will don red, white and blue pom-poms and mascot Poe will wear camo attire to support the troops. In addition to gameday, on Friday, Oct. 26, Ravens players took part in a Pros vs. G.I. Joes videogaming event in the team’s auditorium, playing various video games against military members currently stationed overseas. The Ravens once again hosted the Coca-Cola Military Combine (10/27), and they are currently working with the Baltimore Station, an organization that works with homeless veterans, to provide a new and improved physical activity space in their recentlyacquired West Baltimore location.

10/15 The Ravens Purple Club hosted the fourth annual

Sip 'N Paint event at M&T Bank Stadium as part of the team’s Crucial Catch efforts. TE Hayden Hurst took part in the festivities alongside breast cancer survivors.

10/22 Ravens rookies, including QB Lamar Jackson,

joined students from Curtis Bay Elementary School (Baltimore, Md.) to participate in the team’s annual Hometown Huddle event.
