Second-year WR Devin Duvernay, who had never caught punts before being drafted by the Ravens last year, leads the NFL in punt return yards (233) and punt return average (16.6). “I never did it in college or high school. So, I’m still kind of learning, but it’s just catching the ball and running. So, that’s what I’ve been doing.”

QUOTH THE RAVEN B:9.5"

S:9"

T:9.5"

“We had great communication last week. We were playing as a team, playing together – as brothers. I love these guys in the locker room – offense and defense. I think we just went out there and played Ravens football, played the way we know we can play – every down, one play at a time, one series at a time – and handled the series of events.” – S DeShon Elliott

QB Lamar Jackson

The Baltimore Ravens (5-1) play their first AFC North game of the season when they host the Cincinnati Bengals (4-2) in a matchup between the division’s Top 2 teams. Baltimore has won five straight games since a Week 1 OT loss at Las Vegas, while Cincinnati has won three of its past four, including a 34-11 tilt last Sunday at Detroit. The Ravens aim to begin a season 6-1 for the first time in franchise history. (Baltimore has now started 5-1 for the fourth time ever, also doing so in 2020, 2012 & 2000). Dating back to 2019, Baltimore is 9-0 in the month of October, marking the league’s best such record during that span. The Ravens lead the all-time series with Cincinnati, 27-23. Baltimore has won five straight, including a 38-3 game when the teams last met in Week 17 of 2020. In that game, the Ravens rushed for a teamrecord 404 yards, with QB Lamar Jackson throwing 3 TDs. Under head coach John Harbaugh, Baltimore is 14-12 vs. Cincy. Baltimore dominated the Chargers in last week’s 34-6 win at M&T Bank Stadium, holding them to 208 yards (including 26 rushing) and 4-of-16 on combined third/ fourth downs. S DeShon Elliott registered 1 INT and 1 sack, while three different RBs (Le’Veon Bell, Devonta Freeman & Latavius Murray) each scored a rushing TD and helped Baltimore rack up 187 yards on the ground. QB Mark Andrews posted a gamehigh 68 yards and 1 TD on 5 catches.

NUMBERS TO

4 – NFL defenders this season to record

at least 1 sack and 1 INT in a single game: Ravens S DeShon Elliott, Bears LB Roquan Smith, Bills DE Greg Rousseau & Panthers LB Shaq Thompson. Last Sunday in the win vs. LAC, Elliott tallied 3 tackles, 1 sack, 1 INT (the first of his career) and 2 PD.

7

– Games in which the Ravens have held opponents to 7 points or fewer since Don Martindale became D.C. in 2018, tying NE for the NFL’s most such instances.

2,O78

– Combined yards (pass+rush) by QB Lamar Jackson (1,686 passing & 392 rushing), ranking as the NFL’s second most, entering Week 7 (Tom Brady - 2,101).

8

– Combined QB hits from Ravens’ defensive backs (a NFL best), including 3 each from S DeShon Elliott and CB Tavon Young. Baltimore’s 38 overall QB hits rank sixth in the NFL.

This marks the Ravens’ third-straight home game and the final contest before Baltimore has its bye in Week 8. The Ravens then return home to face Minnesota on Nov. 7. 2021 BALTIMORE RAVENS GAMEDAY | 5

ON THE RAVENS' BATTLE VS. CINCINNATI:

”We have our hands full, and it’s going to be an AFC North division showdown, and whoever wins is going to be leading the division at the midway point of the season. We understand that. But we’ve always understood that. With the Bengals, Browns and Steelers, all these games are like that no matter what. The records really don’t matter. These are the kinds of games that you expect. We’re excited about it, and we understand the challenge that’s in front of us.”

top 2,

Not two By brooke balzano

FROM A YOUNG AGE, MARK ANDREWS had his sights set on one thing – being the best. It didn’t matter if it was playing soccer, driving a car or playing football, he always believed he was capable of being the best and never wanted to settle for less. Growing up with three older siblings, competition was something that came naturally to him. As a kid, he’d race to the bathroom to brush his teeth before his two brothers and sister had a chance to. When Andrews was only 5 years old, a soccer coach asked his parents if he could join the competitive team for 6-year-olds because they needed more participants. “He’s 5. He’s only played three-on-three, there’s no way. He doesn’t know how to do it,” his mother, Martha, said. The coach persisted, saying that it didn’t matter because Andrews already towered over the other kids and that he’d learn. Mark developed such a passion for soccer, and his competitive nature only made him thrive on the field. He quickly became

10 | 2021 BALTIMORE RAVENS GAMEDAY

confident in his abilities, boasting as a child that he probably was the best in the state, at worst, Top 5. The smallest comment made at the dinner table one night turned into a mantra he’d carry forever, even creating a special hashtag in some of his social media posts – #Top5ive. Dominating over defenders in size, he quickly became the player to watch at all times. When he decided he was done playing soccer at the end of eighth grade, he needed to find a new purpose for his cleats. Wanting a more physical sport, Andrews decided to play football in high school. While the coach initially doubted Mark’s ability after missing out on weightlifting that summer, he quickly proved to be a valuable asset at wide receiver, registering 1,058 yards on 58 receptions his sophomore year. After his first game, an opposing coach approached Andrews and said, ‘You’re going to play in the NFL,” a statement that wasn’t even a thought in his mind a few months before. While it came as a surprise to his family, having just picked up football, his coach already believed that he was capable of playing on Sundays.

After three years as his high school’s No. 1 receiver, Andrews was ranked No. 2 in the state of Arizona and committed to Oklahoma. During his redshirt freshman year, he made a move that launched his NFL career – switching from wide receiver to tight end. He capped his three-year career as the Sooners’ all-time leader in receiving yards by a tight end and was drafted by the Ravens in the third round of the 2018 NFL Draft. In just his fourth year in the NFL, Andrews is a Pro Bowl tight end and has 190 receptions for 2,573 receiving yards and 23 touchdowns. While Top 5 was always a mentality, it’s become a reality for Andrews in the NFL, too. Entering Week 7, Andrews ranks No. 1 (tied with Travis Kelce) in receiving yards (468 on 34 receptions) among tight ends in 2021. His 147 receiving yards in the Week 5 victory over Indianapolis set a Ravens’ single-game record, and his 11 receptions tied Dennis Pitta’s single-game high by a Baltimore tight end. Since 2019, Andrews’ 2,021 receiving yards and 156 receptions both rank third among tight ends. His 20 touchdowns rank first (tied with Kelce), and his 34 receptions of 20-plus yards rank third. That production, coupled with a special connection between the pair, has led to Andrews becoming one of Lamar Jackson’s main go-to targets.

"We've got Top 2, not two, in the league right now at tight end. He makes my job way easier. If it's a DB guarding him, a safety or linebacker, it doesn't really matter. He's going to do a great job of getting open. That's my guy.”

"Bradley’s been pretty steady in there. You haven’t noticed him too much. It’s kind of that way with the center [position]. He’s made his blocks. He’s made the calls. I feel really great about how he’s playing." – HEAD COACH JOHN HARBAUGH

"My job is to communicate – to be clear and loud to both sides of the ball. We have an amazing group of guys this year. I don't think there's anyone in our room – from the top to the bottom – that is not prepared and that is not ready to play. So, every guy that's been thrown in there is ready to go, ready to rock and roll, and that's a blessing in itself there, because not everywhere is like that. We're excited about the opportunity to work together."

DIRECT FROM BRADLEY… WHAT IS YOUR FAVORITE NBA/MLB/NHL/MLS TEAM?

"The Nashville Predators, that’s my team. NHL is the biggest sport I watch."

IF YOU COULD BE A TEAMMATE OF ANY FOOTBALL PLAYER IN THEIR PRIME, WHO WOULD IT BE AND WHY? "Obviously, Marsha Yanda was a good one. Thankfully, I had the opportunity to do that."

WHICH GAME SHOW COULD YOU BE ON AND WIN THE TOP PRIZE?

"Let’s Make A Deal. I used to sit in the training room and watch that every single day."

WHAT IS THE FAVORITE CLASS/COURSE YOU TOOK IN COLLEGE?

"Biomechanics – that was my favorite course at Alabama. It was very interesting. I did exercise science for my major. "

WHAT IS YOUR FAVORITE QUOTE, AND WHO SAID IT?

"I know something my father always told me: 'After a loss, if you could go home, look yourself in the mirror and say that you gave everything you had, then you have nothing to be ashamed of.'" DO YOU HAVE ANY SUPERSTITIONS? "The only superstition I have is before the game, I’ll take my helmet and face it out on the 1-yard line while we’re warming up. It’s more of a mentality thing rather than a superstition – because we’re facing an uphill game."

In 2019, the Ravens hosted the inaugural HBCU Career Combine. The second annual event was hosted virtually in 2021 alongside seven other NFL teams.

OZZIE NEWSOME SCHOLARS PROGRAM In June, the Stephen and Renee Bisciotti Foundation honored Executive Vice President Ozzie Newsome by donating $4 million to Maryland’s four Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCUs) to fund scholarships for Baltimore City Public Schools (BCPS) graduates. The gift of $1 million was presented to each of Maryland’s four HBCUs: Bowie State University, Coppin State University, Morgan State University and the University of Maryland Eastern Shore. Beginning with the 2022-23 school year, 20 new freshmen scholars, five from each school, will be selected every year for four years, producing a total of 90 Ozzie Newsome Scholars throughout the program. The Bisciotti Foundation donated an additional $400,000 to the

CollegeBound Foundation to fund the Newsome Scholar’s participation in the College Completion Program, bringing the Bisciotti Foundation’s total gift to $4.4 million. This donation continued the Bisciotti family’s and the Ravens’ long-established commitment to social justice reform. In recent years, the Ravens have donated over $3.2 million to local organizations, including a $1 million donation in 2020 to support 28 Baltimore-area nonprofits and their commitment toward social justice reform. In addition to financial contributions, Bisciotti and Ravens executives have encouraged players to be at the forefront of change, through discussing criminal justice reform and advocating for legislations.

IN OUR COMMUNITY

10/1 Through the annual Ravens RISE HS Football Showdown, CB Marlon Humphrey surprised teams from Manchester Valley and Westminster, giving pep talks to each team, participating in the coin toss, spending time with fans and watching the game from the bench.

10/5 Alongside Baltimore nonprofit PCs for People, DE Calais Campbell and the Ravens celebrated National Digital Inclusion Week by delivering laptops to Cecil-Kirk Recreation Center. This delivery was part of a donation of 250 computers to 15 recreation centers in Baltimore City.

Follow us @RavensCommunity

10/5 On Oct. 5, the Ravens hosted their sixth annual “Sip N’ Paint Night” at M&T Bank Stadium for those who are currently battling or have overcome breast cancer. The evening included surprise visits and participation from WR Devin Duvernay and OL Patrick Mekari (above).
