M&T BANK GAME PREVIEW

QUOTH THE RAVEN “Chuck is one of those guys who’s not going to waver. I don’t care what you throw at him, he knows exactly what to do, and he’s going to be able to line everybody up on the defense. He doesn’t just know his job. He knows everybody else’s job. And he’s just cool. You don’t have to [worry]. He’s not going to get too high; he’s never going to get too low. He handles all the ups and downs throughout the game, and he never wavers. He’s a really good football player.”

– Defensive Backs Coach Chris Hewitt on S Chuck Clark

Riding a nine-game winning streak (the NFL’s longest this season), the Baltimore Ravens (11-2) host the New York Jets (5-8) in a Thursday night primetime showdown from M&T Bank Stadium. Baltimore, which secured a postseason berth last Sunday and currently holds the AFC’s top playoff seed, can clinch its second-straight AFC North title with a victory tonight. The Ravens have now earned a playoff berth in eight of head coach John Harbaugh’s 12 seasons at the helm in Baltimore. The Ravens are 11-2 for the first time in team history and have produced a franchise-best nine-game regular season winning streak. The Ravens rank No. 1 in points (33.1) and rushing yards (200.9) per game, while they’re No. 2 in total yards per game (408.2). Baltimore is on pace to become the first team in NFL history to average 200 passing and 200 rushing yards per game in a season. QB Lamar Jackson has accounted for an NFL-high 35 total TDs (28 passing & 7 rushing), while, with three games remaining, Baltimore has already set a singleseason franchise record for total TDs (52) and points (430). In last Sunday’s 24-17 victory at Buffalo, Jackson passed for 3 TDs (16-of-25 for 145 yards) in blustery conditions and eclipsed the 1,000yard rushing milestone (1,017), joining Michael Vick (2006) as the only NFL QBs to do so in a season. THE OFFICIAL DELI MEAT, CHEESE, FRANKS, AND SAUSAGES OF THE

EYES ALWAYS ON THE HORIZON By Sarah Hampton

John Harbaugh exudes outstanding success in quiet, humble ways. He has accrued the NFL’s fourth-most total victories (125, tied with Green Bay and New Orleans) since his 2008 Baltimore arrival, but chalks those up to the talented players he has been fortunate to coach. Including 2019, he has led the Ravens to a playoff berth in eight of the last 12 seasons and became a Super Bowl Champion in 2012. However, he believes that would not have been possible without Ravens fans rallying behind the team with unrelenting support. He is currently the NFL’s fourth-longest tenured coach but will attest that he wouldn’t be the leader he is today without the help of mentors, loved ones and deep faith in God – all of whom have buoyed him up along the way. Coach Harbaugh comes from a stout coaching tree rooted in the values of faith, family and hard work. “Harbs” launched his career under the supervision of his father, Jack, at Western Michigan and carved out his own path of achievement by working in all three phases of the game for both college and NFL teams. In doing so, he gained the respect of the football world and helped the Ravens become a most consistent, winning team. But John chooses not to dwell on past success and instead focuses his energy forward. With his vision always on the horizon, the fruits of his labor have been plentiful. Over the last two years, he has recreated his offense and defense, redefining how the game can be played with a versatile roster and supreme commitment to improvement, innovation and winning.

Now, the 12th-year head coach aims to bring this next era of Ravens football deep into the playoffs again. “We don’t want to just win a championship,” Harbaugh said. “We want to be a championship team. We want to become something. We seek the highest levels every season.” Leading a team that is 11-2 for the first time in franchise history and riding a nine-game winning streak, he has an impeccable talent to connect with players and is an adamant advocate for putting them in the best possible positions to succeed. Building a relationship with each player is a Harbaugh hallmark. “I’m really thankful for these guys,” Harbaugh shared. “Their attitude – their effort and their attitude, the joy they bring to work every day – that’s what coaching [is all about]. That’s what we do it for.” The coach listens to his players and has confidence in their abilities. “He’s just so open to ideas from veteran guys,” wideout Willie Snead IV shared. “‘Harbs’ does a great job of taking input from guys and caring about how we feel and what we think. That means a lot from a player’s standpoint, just being respectful.” Records and success aside, John Harbaugh is an intellectual, persistent, tough-minded and forwardthinking leader who values building a family within his team. “Harbs” is relentless, and his love of competition – combined with his enthusiasm for hard work – creates a special environment in Baltimore that can only be described one way: Playing like a Raven. In 2019, it can also be described as truly exciting and incredibly fun.

“I [admire] his determination, his drive, his love of his players, the respect he commands in the locker room and his passion. I think he’s a man of integrity, honesty and great character. I admire a lot of things about him.” – Ravens EVP & GM Eric DeCosta

“I’ve played for Coach Harbaugh for the majority of my career, and the prosperity we have had as a team speaks for itself. To have the sustained success we’ve had as an organization – it begins with the head coach.” – G Marshal Yanda

FAITH, FAMILY

12 | 2019 BALTIMORE RAVENS GAMEDAY

“John Harbaugh has the Baltimore Ravens playing an offense the NFL hasn’t seen before, and they have an argument as the league’s best team.” – Yahoo! Sports’ Frank Schwab on John Harbaugh as an NFL Coach of the Year Candidate

“One of the reasons Harbaugh is the fourth-longest-tenured coach in the NFL is his ability to find the pulse of the team and tailor his message to the circumstances. Harbaugh's success – a Super Bowl title and 115 victories – comes from his ability to reinforce those messages to his players.” – ESPN.com’s Jamison Hensley

“Harbaugh has done an excellent job of playing to his team’s strengths, giving the Ravens an advantage with in-game decision-making every week. The point isn’t even necessarily about his fourth-down aggressiveness. It’s about Harbaugh’s openness to whichever process will give his team a chance to win, or as he put it: ‘We’re chasing everything that’s going to give us an edge.’” – The Athletic’s Sheil Kapadia

40 former and current Ravens players took part in meal distributions throughout the Baltimore area to celebrate the Thanksgiving holiday.

The Ravens’ 2019 Walter Payton Man of the Year honoree is CB Brandon Carr.

2019 WALTER PAYTON MAN OF THE YEAR In conjunction with the NFL, the Baltimore Ravens honor CB Brandon Carr as the team’s selection for the 2019 Walter Payton Man of the Year award. Throughout his 12 seasons in the NFL, Carr has made community outreach a priority – not just in his hometown, but everywhere he has lived and played football. Focusing on many areas, such as childhood literacy, health and wellness, providing comfort to patients undergoing cancer treatment and feeding the less fortunate, Carr uses his foundation – the Carr Cares Foundation – to connect with organizations and individuals all over the country. This season, the Carr Cares Foundation launched a new literacy subscription box called LitBuddies at Glenmount Elementary/ Middle School in Baltimore. LitBuddies raises awareness about the importance and value in reading among youth by sharing books and literacy resources. More than 100 literacy boxes were already distributed for

free to Baltimore-area students, and the subscription will be available for purchase for families across the country. To further his already vast support of breast cancer patients, Carr pledged to donate $12,500 per game ($200,000 total) to the National Breast Cancer Foundation. The money will fund free screenings and diagnostic mammograms, including 3D options for women with dense breast tissue, for women living in Baltimore, Dallas and his hometown of Flint, MI. Additionally, for the third-straight year, Carr hosted the Ravens’ annual Holiday Helpers event, providing 60 high-achieving, underserved children with a holiday-themed shopping spree alongside a Ravens celebrity shopping partner. More information on the Carr Cares Foundation can be found at: www.carrcares.org.
