INCA TRAIL to Machu Picchu
4 Days / 3 Nights
Overview: A spectacularly rich experience in the Andean mountains and Inca culture awaits you! Four days of trekking, 50 kilometers through the heart of the Andes, the only trek to take you along the original Inca Trail, an authentic hand-built stone footpath where you will walk in the footsteps of ancient Inca royalty and enter Machu Picchu through the Inti Punku (Sun Gate) at sunrise for awe-inspiring views as the ancient Incas did a thousand years ago. Climb from 2,380 meters to 4,210 meters at Dead Woman's Pass, then pass through unforgettably beautiful jungle scenery and hidden labyrinth-style ruins to reach the most spectacular Inca archaeological site in South America at sunrise. Day 1: Hostel pick-up and transfer to Ollantaytambo for a quick breakfast before continuing to Piscacucho (KM 82), the entrance to the Inca Trail, where you will hike 11 kilometers (6 hours) through the scenic Vilcanota River Valley ending the day at Wayllabamba camp (altitude: 2,980m). Day 2: Today will be a tough 10 kilometer hike (5 hours constant uphill, 2 hours constant downhill) ascending over 1,000 meters to reach Dead Woman's Pass (altitude: 4,215m) followed by an immediate descent through a beautiful valley to Pacaymayo Camp (altitude: 3,660m) where you will camp next to relaxing waterfalls. Day 3: An unforgettable day hiking 14 kilometers (8 hour duration) passing Runquracay archaeological site and crossing over a high pass at 3,850m for breathtaking views of the surrounding snow-capped mountains. Following the rolling hills to Puyupatamarca among other archaeological sites tucked into the mountainside and end the day at Wiñayhuayna High Jungle Camp (altitude: 2,700m). Day 4: An early start at 4:00 am will get you to Inti Punku (the original Inca sun gate) as the sun is rising over the majestic Machu Picchu ruins. (7 kilometers; 2 hours) Explore the majestic Machu Picchu archaeological site with a professional English-speaking guide and enjoy free time to wander through the ruins, truly a once-in-a-lifetime unforgettable experience. Take the return train back to Ollantaytambo and bus to Cuzco. Upon arrival you will need to make your own way to your hostel.

5 Days / 4 Nights
Day 1: Hostel pick-up and transfer by bus to Mollepata (altitude: 2,900 meters), the beginning point of the trek where we will get started with a 3 hour walk to Sayllapata for lunch with panoramic views of beautiful snow-capped Humantay and Salkantay mountains. We will ascend 4 hours to Soraypampa (3,920 meters), the highest and coldest camp of the trip. Day 2: Today we will hike uphill again approximately 4 hours to cross the highest pass of the trek at 4,650 meters where we can see the mighty Salkantay and Tucarhuay peaks on either side of us. After a 2-hour hike, a well-deserved lunch will be served and followed by a downhill 3-hour trek to our campsite at Challhuay or Colcapampa as we near the beginning of the high jungle region at 2,900 meters.
Overview: Discover a different side of the great Andes mountain range by taking this alternative route to Machu Picchu ascending to the highest pass at 4,650 meters above sea level for up-close-and-personal views of massive Salkantay and Humantay mountain peaks in the Cordillera Vilcanota range which are among the highest in Peru. This pristine trail is the perfect opportunity to get away from the crowds and get into nature to see abandoned Inca sights little visited by tourists and revel at the wondrous mountain peaks towering overhead as you breathe fresh mountain air.
Day 3: Our hike will descend into the upper jungle region crossing over the Lluskamayo River and winding through streams and waterfalls with tropical flora. Our camp at Santa Teresa town (1,700 meters) is much warmer with nearby hot springs to soak our hard-worked bodies. Day 4: Our last day on the trail will take us from Santa Teresa (1,700m) along a relaxing path for 4 hours to reach the hydroelectric station (1,880m) where a box lunch will be served. From here we will continue our hike for another 3 hours to reach Aguas Calientes (2,010m) where we finally have time to relax and take a dip in the hot springs before recharging our batteries and getting ready for our visit to Machu Picchu. Day 5: Our trek ends with a rewarding guided tour of the much anticipated Machu Picchu archaeological site early in the morning as the mist dissipates at sunrise. Hardy hikers can trek up Wayna Picchu or walk to Inti Punku for postcard photo opportunities of Machu Picchu. The day is free for exploring the site and relaxing in the hot springs in Aguas Calientes. In the afternoon we will return by train to Ollantaytambo and take a tourist bus to Cuzco. Upon arrival you will need to make your own way to your hostel.
