Bambers Catalogue 2013

Hello Miss, this is our latest catalogue for textiles teachers and technicians. My role, over the last 30 odd years, has been to work with our many ‘education sector’ customers. Hence this catalogue. I’ve added a lot more products this year, so I hope you find them useful. My ultimate aim is to produce a 400 - 500 page catalogue, so please get in touch and let me know what you’d like to see in the next copy. This full colour catalogue had very humble beginnings, when it started back in the early 1970’s. In those days, Dad created a typed catalogue. He would produce several duplicator templates and then fit each one to a large hand operated duplicator he kept in his office Each year, during the ‘catalogue run’ he would bring the

duplicator home. My brother, Steve, and I would then squabble over taking turns turning the handle of his old machine to produce hundreds of pages for the latest catalogue. Times and technology change and that old duplicator is long gone. It was all fields, then. Alan Bamber

Overlocker Workshop with Lorna Knight

Many teachers and technicians have enjoyed and benefited from our Overlocker Workshop. You will spend the day in our classroom (first floor) and you will be provided with a Bernina 800DL overlocker. Lorna will then take you through the various procedures involved in using a 4 thread overlocker. You will learn the correct way to thread your overlocker, produce 3 & 4 thread overlocking, rolled-hems, lettuce edging, neatening, narrow seams, gathering and flatlock and how to use the differential feed. We limit our classes to six and the cost is £45.00 per student. Please phone the shop to make your booking.

Bernina Spoolcases... Its always important that you choose, and use, the correct Bernina spoolcase and spools with your classroom Berninas. The wrong choice will affect the stitch quality and may even damage your precious Berninas. It’s also important that you never force the latch, on your spoolcase, beyond its stop point - about 50 degrees. It’s a metal bodied machine with a steel raceway and bobbincase similar to the Bernina, so it’s tough and durable and easy to clear if you get in a jam. Janome 8002 Overlocker

The 8002D is a straight-forward, nothing fancy overlocker. It’s a bit noisy and it doesn’t have a looper threader. Having said all that, it’s a good choice for the textiles teacher on a tight budget. It will sew light to medium weights and produce a reasonably good stitch. It has easy to use controls and a differential feed and a rolledhem feature.

The best of the bunch, when it comes to Janome overlockers. Until recently, Maggie used 6 of these overlockers in our Overlocker Day Course for many years. This one produces a good quality overlock stitch over a wide range of fabrics. I’ve said that all overlockers are awkward to thread, what does making threading a little easier is a lower looper threader. This model has such a device built in. A good buy. Durable and reliable.

The 10A also has a Speed Regulator. The Janome Customizer Embroidery software

The Janome Customiser software package is the best choice for most schools. It contains most of the tools you will need to create simple embroidery, quickly and easily. It can be copied onto as many computers as you wish, and it will also run on ‘most’ School network systems. You can even give each Student a copy of the software to work on their designs as homework. STOP PRESS: Janome have decided to discontinue this software in favour of a more expensive and less flexible package. We still have the Customizer in stock. We will continue to supply it to schools and offer back up.

Janome Memorycraft 9900

The Janome Memorycraft 9900 has, as I write these words, just been released. It replaces the old faithful 9700, which was a great machine. Unlike the 9700, however, the new 9900 benefits from a USB socket. This of course means you can now upload designs from your memory stick and make use of the 9900’s larger embroidery area of 6.7” x 7.9” (170mm x 200mm). Like the 9700, the 9900 also has a large range of regular sewing stitches, features and functions. It is, therefore, what I would call a ‘dual machine’. In other words it will produce frame embroidery as well as a straight-stitch, zig-zag and buttonhole etc. etc. etc.

The Janome Digitizer Embroidery software

The Janome Digitizer software package is a more advanced package with lots of editing tools. If you have the time to spare to learn, and use, this software then it’s a great package. I think, in most cases, this software offers too many tools and features, and most teachers won’t have the time to use them all. This Brother embroidery machine is very similar to the Janome 350E in its functions and features. It has a large number of built-in embroidery designs, plus a number of fonts. It has a USB socket which will enable you to upload embroidery designs, from a memory stick, you may have bought from the internet or designed yourself with an embroidery software program. The Brother PE embroidery software packages can usually only be used on one computer at any time. Brother Innovis 1250

This Brother Innovis 1250 is another ‘dual machine’, in other words it has both frame embroidery and regular sewing features and functions. It’s quite easy to operate and the control screen is logical and simple to use. Nearly all of the latest embroidery machines have a USB socket and this 1250 is no exception. This means you can save Brother embroidery files onto a computer memory stick. Then, insert the stick into the 1250 and upload those embroidery designs and sew them out.

The Brother PE-Design Embroidery software

Brother produce two embroidery software packages, the PE-Design Plus and PE-Design Next. ‘Plus’ offers a basic auto-digitizer and a useful type editor which includes 34 fonts. ‘Next’ offers a full suite of editing tools and features which means you can digitize and edit your own embroidery work. However, this can be a very a time consuming procedure. Most of the teachers I know would probably not have that time to spare in their already busy working day. Again, please feel free to phone me.

We accept Purchase Orders. All prices were correct when we sent the Catalogue to print. However, please be realistic - some prices are bound to increase over the life of the Catalogue. Prices listed in our Catalogue do not include VAT, which most Schools can reclaim.

Delivery & Charges We keep large stocks of most items, therefore you may expect delivery within 3 - 5 days from your Order. Delivery is FREE on all Orders of Sewing Machines and Overlockers. We charge for delivery on all small Accessories and Haberdashery. Our prices are based on regular Post Office charges.

80 You are welcome to visit our store, we are very close to the Trafford Centre, Manchester, just 500 yards from Junction 11 on the M60. We have a Car Park at the rear of the building. As main agents for Bernina, Janome and Brother, we have over 70 Sewing Machines and Overlockers on display in our Ground Floor showroom. You are welcome to call in and test, try any machine and ask us for our Education Discount prices. Our large Workshop is also on the Ground Floor. On the First Floor we keep large stocks of Haberdashery, Fabrics, Trimmings and many Sewing Machine Accessories. Also on the First Floor is our Classroom where we run a number of popular Courses and Workshops. Our Overlocker Day Course has been always very popular with teachers and technicians over the last twenty years. Phone or email to book your place or places and learn how to make the most of your Classroom Overlockers. Everyone goes home with a reference book of samples they have created on our Course.
