Sarvajanik Tulsi Vivah
s we know Tulsi is a tree with various useful benefits like keeping the surrounding air fresh - and is also useful as medicine in ailments. It is the best herbal Ayurvedic tree, but for Hindus it is not only a tree but a ‘holy tree’. According to mythology, Vrinda was the wife of the demon Jalinder. She was very faithful and 'Pativrata’ to her husband. She started a very hard 'Tapasya’ to get powers from Bhagwan Vishnu for her husband. Due to Her 'Tapasya', Bhagwan Vishnu got worried, because if she continues, he has no alternative but to fulfill her wish and give powers to Jalinder. Therefore, to break her 'Tapasya' Bhagwan Vishnu came to her in the face of her husband Jalinder and forced a physical relation. Vrinda being a great 'Pavitra’ could not refuse this act of Bhagwan Vishnu that broke her Tapasya. Vrinda realized that it was not her husband but Bhagwan Vishnu - and was very upset by this cheating act of Bhagwan Vishnu. It was Karthik Shuddha Dwadashi day, so to console her Bhagwan Vishnu promised her that

in her next birth, she will take birth as 'Tulsi'. From Karthik shuddha dwadashi till Poornima, she will be married to him. To keep tradition alive, Omkar Sai Mandir, Bazar road, Bandra (w) organises ‘Sarvajank Tulsi Vivah’, where tulsi trees from surrounding members are decorated, rangolis drawn all arranged in front of the Sai Baba Temple. The tradition is to marry Tulsi with Shri Krishna, the incarnation of Bhagwan Vishnu. In this ceremony, little boys, as ‘Mama’ of Shri Krishna performed the rituals, with help from their elders or mothers. The whole atmosphere was like a real marriage. After the ritual, ‘Aarti’ was performed & sweets were distributed. Then, the little boys burn crackers with. The whole ceremony is celebrated with enornmous joy & enthusiasm. Omkar Sai Mandir Trust

Furtados School of Music
he Furtado’s School of Music opened its doors in Bandra to the sound of Sivamani’s drum beats and Louis Bank’s piano. The appreciative audience who had gathered at the school were not only enthralled by the performance, but by what the school has to offer as well. The ‘fun evening’ also saw an interesting demonstration of the curriculum and several children were inspired enough to try their hand at the drums and piano that the music maestros had just used! This is the second school from Furtados after the successful launch of their first school in Napean Sea Road in June this year. The Furtado’s

Bakra Eid or Eid Al Adha
akra Eid or Eid Al Adha is known as the festival of sacrifice celebrated by Muslims worldwide to commemorate the willingness of Prophet Abraham to sacrifice his son Prophet Ishmael as an act of obedience to almighty Allah. Hundreds of years ago in Mecca, Prophet Abraham one day saw in his dream that he was ordered by Allah to sacrifice his son, this dream appeared to him three days continously. On the fourth day, he took his son to Mina Maidan to offer the sacrifice as ordered by Almighty Allah in his dreams. In between Satan tried to tempt Prophet Abraham, his wife and son not to do as ordered by Allah but they did not listen to him and did not get tempted. On reaching Mina Maidan his son requested his father to blindfold himself before offering the sacrifice as he would find it difficult to sacrifice his son with his own hands in front of his eyes. After blindfolding himself, Prophet Abraham put a knife on his son’s throat and was about to sacrifice him, when Almighty Allah intervened to provide him with a goat, which was sacrificed. Bakra Eid is the ritual to commerate the example of Prophet Abraham. When a person

goes for performing Haj, he has to sacrifice an animal (goat, sheep, camel, etc.) in Mina Maidan in the memory of the above incident. Haj is not said to be completed without the sacrifice of an animal. The meat from the sacrificed animal is divided into three parts. The family retains one third of the share, another one third is distributed amongst relatives, friends and neighbours and the last one third is given to the poor /needy. Sometimes, the meat of the whole animal is distributed amongst the poor and needy in villages. Muslim families celebrate Bakra Eid by preparing traditional meat dishes from the meat they purchase from their regular vendor or from their relatives. Eid is a great occasion to meet one's own extended family as most people have a busy year round schedule and only make time for Eid. The meaning of the Bakra Eid festival has changed and has become subjective over the years, while goat sacrifice is often taken literally it has a great significance which is ‘learning to sacrifice something that one is attached to or dear to you’. The Wonder That Is Bandra The programmes of Celebrate Bandra this year have really raised the bar. One of the highlights was on 19th November at the Lands' End Amphitheatre."Surili Shaam, Bandra Ke Naam" ( A melodious evening in the name of Bandra). It was a tribute to the artistes of the Film Fraternity who have lived, or are living in Bandra. This was of course, before the industry's name was changed to "Bollywood"! Sanjeevani Bhelande not only put together an amazing programme, but sang some popular numbers warming the hearts of the 1000+ audience. She was accompanied by an excellent orchestra; the versatile singer, Sameer Date; and her student, Shekhar Suman. The front row had famous personalities of the film industry who live, or have lived in Bandra, and have contributed to the films of yesteryear. We were honoured to have Payrelalji, Ravindra Jain, the children of Naushadsaab and last but not the least, Priya Dutt - not as an MP - but as the daughter of Sunil Dutt and Nargis. Waheeda Rehman, who unfortunately could not make it, sent a beautiful recorded message. Songs of the 50's, 60's, and 70's from movies like Sujata, Mughal-e-Azam, Guide, Caravan, Teesri Manzil, etc. had the audience, especially senior citizens, singing along, reviving nostalgic memories. The lyrics of these songs are immortal, and Sanjeevani with her group brought them to life. As the evening proceeded and Helen's foottapping numbers came on, people in the audience sprang up to dance. When Mr. Manpreet Kochar, a Senior Executive of Kotak Securities,
- one of our main sponsors - got up and took the floor, it was as if Shammi Kapoor was moving. He got our Trustees to dance with him, with the crowd clapping and cheering. A little 8year old girl stole the show with her perfect dance steps and expressive eyes. A truly memorable evening! Whether it is Western or Indian music, classical or pop, the audience loves every programme. No wonder Bandra Rocks! A Hindi couplet describes it best:"Jeena Yahan, Marna Yahan, Iskey Siva Janaa Kahan?" - Roughly translated it means, " I will Live here, I Will Die Here, Where Else Would I Want To Go?" - That is Bandra for all Bandraites. - Shyama Kulkarni

Celebrate Bandra Trust Donates 20 Seater Bus to KRIPA
he Celebrate Bandra Trust along with Fountainhead Promotions and Events brings you the Celebrate Bandra Festival once every two years. The festival is multi pronged and is unique in that it is the only festival that is run by, of and for the people of Bandra. Apart from the festival agenda of providing world class entertainment to the general public across all barriers , we also have a long term agenda which highlights our social responsibility. Improving the quality of life in the suburb is high on our list of priorities and in keeping with this, this year we have donated a 20 seater bus to the KRIPA foundation to help them implement their ADAPTT (Alcohol And Drug Abuse Prevention Through Training) programme. Says Fr Joe Pereira - the driving force behind KRIPA and alsoFounder and Managing Trustee - and a recipient of the Padma Shree Award. “Today Bandra has an influx of people from all over the country becoming the haven for many nefarious activities, in Mumbai. The average population density in Bandra is approx. 5,1275 per square kilometre. With the development of Bandra’s landscapes and high rise buildings, many slum settlements mushroomed, which in due time has become hideouts for pushers and ped-

dlers, namely around the railway station, bus terminus, market place, transit camps and slums. Many parents of both affluent as well as upper middle class families in Bandra are beginning to realise that drugs have made in roads into their homes. Some of our children drop out from colleges, take up jobs in Call Centres (BPO) and indulge in high risk behaviour, alcohol and drug based entertainment for past time. There is therefore an urgent need to stop this trend amongst our youth of Bandra from self-destruction” Our trustees couldn’t agree more and therefore we unanimously decided to facilitate the implementation of the ADAPTT programme by providing a bus that would facilitate movement of KRIPA counsellors across all schools and colleges . KRIPA Foundation is the largest NGO in the field of chemical dependency and is recognized for its activities by the Ministry of Social Justice & Empowerment (MSJE), Government of India.Kripa has as its vision a ‘Global Healing Presence’ The bus was handed over to the KRIPA foundation at a press conference on Nov 22nd 2011. Eagle Brigade
r. Police Inspector, Mr Samad Shaikh of Bandra police Station, explained during a meeting of various Bandra ALMs and other associations, that the Police needs the citizens to assist them in their endeavour to reduce crime and improve security. He added that over the years, Mumbai population has grown exponentially - whereas the Police force have hardly increased, thus leading to an untenable situation where a citizen’s assistance became a crying need of the hour. Thus came into existence the “Eagle Brigade”, a voluntary organisation of the local citizens, completely backed and authorised by the Bandra Police who issued ID cards to the members, after due screening. Even though Mr Samad Shaikh has made 4 Zones for the Eagle Brigade in Bandra, the Zone 3 (from Bandra Lands’ End Fort up to Balaji Restaurant crossing at Hill Road and from John Baptist road up to Kadeshwari) is the only one which is fully active and was inaugurated on 15th August 2011 at the Flag Hoisting Ceremony (pic in our Sep 2011 issue – pg 9) at Bandra Bandstand Promenade. The Zone 3 Eagle Brigade is headed by President - Ms Archana Sharma, Vice President - Mr Benedict Soares and Secretary - Mr Christopher Marquis. The Eagle Brigade has already shown its mettle by doing a yeoman service in assisting the Bandra Police during the Ganpati Immersion & Mt Mary Fair. This involved crowd management, late night duties, emergency assistance and traffic control. The voluntary selfless service conducted in a well organised and dedicated manner by nearly 40 of the Eagle Brigade members overwhelmed the Bandra Police so much, that they organised a special meeting where Mr Samad Shaikh personally felicitated all the Eagle Brigade members. In the recently concluded 2 week

long Celebrate Bandra Function, the Eagle Brigade offered the services of their team for controlling the huge influx of visitors, providing them security and helping the Traffic Police in controlling the traffic and parking issues. The Trustees of the Celebrate Bandra, Mr Arup Sarbadhikary and Ms Shyama Kulkarni were so pleased with the dedicated service that they wrote ”Our heartiest congratulations to the Eagle Brigade for the good work being done by them - and we fully support them”. The Eagle Brigade, on a regular basis and in close liaison with the Police, patrol various streets and keep an eye on eve teasers, chain snatchers, druggies and other suspicious looking people. Whenever there is a traffic snarl, accident or any emergency issues, the Eagle members, through their well-connected communication network, inform the Traffic Police and arrive at the scene for assistance. The services are offered free of cost with many of the members using their own vehicles for regular patrolling. Recently, a few members of the Eagle Brigade have volunteered to ‘man’ the busy junction near Balaji on Hill Road and also the junction near the ‘Gold Gym’ at Pali Naka, to assist the Traffic constable at these junctions. Mr Robin Nath, Hon. Secretary and Trustee of Bandra Bandstand Residents Trust informs that ever since the formation of the Eagle Brigade, crime in our area has perceptibly reduced, security for people especially women has improved, and the Bandra Bandstand Promenade, which has been recently declared a tourist spot, has become a cleaner and safer place for all. Thanks a lot to Eagle Brigade and especially to Sr. Inspector Samad Shaikh for starting this movement and hope that his successors at the Bandra Police Station would also encourage and sustain the same. The difference is that the Bumble Bee keeps buzzing for honey, while the Bandra Buzz keeps buzzing for news. The Bandra Buzz opened up after a famous paper called the Metro Bandra folded up for reasons of its own. The BB news team travels extensively from North to South and East to West, to give Bandraites news, which is the best. The size & colour of the paper is pleasing to the eye. The printed pictures of various happenings adds to the plus points. The BB covers a variety of topics & events. It is also a local ready reckoner for various categories, like social & civic issues, sports, politics & other events. For ladies, there are seasonal recipes & fashion fundas. An Important Milestone Dear readers, Wintery winds get us to December - with family re-unions, festive fervour, functions, decorations & celebrations... Talking of celebrations - well, we’re one year young. This is our first anniversary issue. It seems just like yesterday - our launch - our first issues rolling out of the press - the reactions of our first readers... Indeed, this important Bandra Buzz milestone has been an eventful journey with its fair share of ‘ups & downs’. But... we made it. At this juncture, I must sincerely thank all those who helped make this possible. Without going into names, a big ‘Thank You’ & ‘God Bless’. As you can see, because of your support (well wishers, subscribers, readers & advertisers, writers...), we are evolving and growing. I am excited about what 2012 has in store for Bandra - and how we cover it. Remember, we are with you all. The Famous Shri Sai Baba Temple Of Shirdi Replicated In Bandra
r. Sanjay Shirgaokar, President of P.B.M. Mitra Mandal (Bandra) with his team of dedicated workers have created a replica of the famous Shree Sai Baba Temple of Shirdi at Marwari Chawl, Jain Mandir Road, near the Jain Temple in Bandra (W). Sanjay is a railway employee who works at the Matunga workshop. He has passed the Intermediate Drawing Exam,He has got no formal training in set designing. His rangoli pictures of Mother Teresa, Gandhiji and Anna Hazare... have earned him many awards. One day while making a rangoli of Bhagwan Shree Sai Baba, he was inspired by God Shree Sai Baba to make a replica of the Shirdi temple. He specially went to Shirdi, got photographs of shirdi sai bab from different angles, Then using thermocol for the temple and wood for the base - within four days he replicated the Shree Sai Baba Temple of Shirdi. After Shree Sai Baba temple was opened to public for prayer and darshan, the first Satya Narayan maha puja was held, which was attended by Municipal Councillor Ashish Shellar, MNS Shakha pramukh Mr Tushar Aapre and other leaders. There was also a Bhajan programme that was performed by volunteers of Ridhay Sur Saincha from Bandra.It was followed by a Rangoli and Drawing competition on enviroment (like save mother

earth) grow trees, Keep Mumbai clean and green. The competition was open for Children between 8yrs to 15 yrs. The function ended with Sai baba Bhandara where around 1500 to 2000 people from all caste and creed were given a meal. The aim behind organising such a function was to have an exchange of views between people, get new volunteers and the cultural heritage ( the art of making temples) pass on to the next generation. There was a huge crowd of devotees who came to visit the Bhagwan Sai baba temple. Many that were unable to travel to Shirdi for the darshan, had a rare chance to see it in Bandra and offer prayer and be blessed by Bhagwan Sai Baba. R. Sonawane

Shiv Sena Shakha celebrates 31 years of its establishment
he Shiv Sena Shakha of ward # 97 at Jain Mandir Road, Bandra (w) completed 31years of its establishment by celebrating it in a big way. Mr. Sandeep Medkar (the Shakha Pramukh), Mrs. Manisha Fonde (the lady Shakha Pramukh) and all other existent Shakha Pramukhs and workers were present on the occasion. The Shiv Samart Seva Mandal, the cultural wing of the Shiv Sena, together with Shiv Sena Shakha no. 97 organised all the programmes. Mr. Sunil Dhotre is the President of Shiv Samrat Seva Mandal. The day began with the Satya Narayan Maha Puja and Bhajan Sandhaya. Mr. Pramod Mahadik and his team of volunteer singing soulful bhajans. There was a nice mandir built, having statues of Bhagwan Gajanan Maharaj, Bhagwan Swami Samarth, Duttatre Bhagwan and Bhagwan Shee Sai Baba. The puja was attended by large number of devotees. After the puja there were games for the children, followed by a Garba dance. Finally the icing on the cake was a beatiful ‘live’ Marathi Natak (play) on a huge stage erected near Jain Mandir. On this stage, over the last 31years, all the big names of Marathi film actors like Mr. Ashok Sharaff, Mr. Laxmikant Berde, Mr. Prashant Damle, Mr. Shidhart Jadhav - to name a few - have sometime or other performed in live plays.

This play was about corruption. There was an honest king who was not educated. His ministers were trying to rob his country to please a ‘lavni’ dancer. The ‘lavni’ dancer had an ambition of becoming the Raj Nartaki by using the influence of all the ministers, who in order to please her, would do any corrupt act. The lavni dancer played by Ms. Puja Kadam did a great job and danced (performed) the lavni (a marathi folk dance) to the perfection. Then the common sipahi (soldiers) of this king’s court, Mr. Santosh Pawar (actor) exposes all the corruption scandals to the king - and now the king punishes all his corrupt ministers. am Advocate Shane Cardoz, representing my clients “Catholic Residents Organisation for Social Service” an Organization having its address at 401 / Grace Apartment, 3rd Road, Almeida Park, Bandra (west) Mumbai 4000 50, herein and thereafter referred to as 'C.R.O.S.S. Organization'. Lawrence Dsouza is the President and Eric Mathias is the Vice President of the Cross Organisation. This is with respect to the Movie,“Who's There? (KaunHaiWaha?)”, which was released on 18th November 2011. The aforesaid movie is a horror movie, which had nothing to do with Jesus Christ or Christianity, even though for cheap publicity, the producer and director Shri Wasim Shaikh and ShriEjaz Ahmed advertised the movie in the Mumbai newspapers such as MidDay (1111-11), DNA and Hindustan Times (13-11-11) and others. The advertisement shows Jesus Christ on the Cross and a man sticking a knife into him. This is under a caption ‘This Time Evil Will Win’ & above another caption, which says "Expect the Unexpected Truth". It is a fundamental article of the Christian faith that Jesus is believed to be God and the Truth, hence, such an advertisement is highly offensive. The Christian community is aghast at such offensive actions which hurt the religious sentiments and hence my client's, 'C.R.O.S.S. Organization' had already filed a criminal complaint (F.I.R) against the aforesaid Producer and Director of the aforesaid Movie at Bandra (West) Police station on 14-11-11 (copy attached) under section 154 of the Criminal Procedure Code and section 295A of the Indian Penal Code. I also served a Legal notice dated 15th November 2011 to 1) Smt. Leela Samson, Chairperson,Central Board of Film Certification, 2) Smt. PankajaThakur,CEO,Central Board of Film Certification, 3) Shri. JP Singh, Regional Officer 4) ShriEjaz Ahmed ,The Director, 5) Shri Wasim Shaikh, The Producer, and 6) Shri K.A. Jauhar, the Advertiser, request for screening of the movie before it was released and removing of the offensive advertisements. In the said legal notice on the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) seeking explanation as to how would the board allow an advertisement showing such images of other gods or religions. Despite of my notice to them on 15th November 2011 and My FIR on 14th November 2011, there were still ads put up on DNA and Hindustan times. We then went to Khar Police station and Santacruz Police station on 15th November 2011 to file FIR, But the seniors did not co operate and simply just took our statement, stating that they would investigate in the

matter. The CROSS organisation had also visited the Joint Commissioner of police at Crawford market and the Bandra DCP, who promised that the Producer & Director would be arrested. My client's 'C.R.O.S.S. Organization' also would like to draw your attention that since the category of certification (U / A) is not mentioned in the advertisement, hence, as per Rule 38 of Cinematograph (Certification) Rules 1983, non-compliance of this rule will be a cognizable and non-bailable offence under section 7 of Cinematograph Act 1952. My clients, 'C.R.O.S.S. Organization' believe the film is anti-Christian and provokes violence against the community. The Christian faith is misinterpreted and shown in bad light. After filing an FIR on 14th November 2011 and constant follow up with the Police department, the police have arrested the aforesaid Producer and director ShriWasimShaikh and ShriEjaz Ahmed on 2nd December 2011, with respect to the FIR filed by my clients 'C.R.O.S.S. Organization' i.e. after a period of 17 days. The 'C.R.O.S.S. Organization' request the Learned Magistrate that the accused Producer and Director Shri Wasim Shaikh and ShriEjaz Ahmed, should not be released on bail easily, keeping the accused’s intention of intentionally hurting the religious sentiments of the Catholics all over the world. This could lead to global war, since the advertisement depicts the end of Christianity by a muslim Director and Producer. This shows promotion of end of Christianity. I request that even though the trial would commence later, the accused should be kept in Judicial Custody for minimum period of 30 days and maximum period as the learned Magistrate at his inherent powers can decide. Zero Garbage Project
On Tuesday, 8th November the Khar Residents Association launched the "Biodegradable Bag Project" at the hands of Mr Vijay Jalan. The District Governor of Rotary, District 3140, in the presence of our Assistant Municipal Commissioner H-West Mr. Sunil Dhamane, in co-operation with the Junior Officer Conservancy Mr. Chandrakant Tambe, President of Rotary Club of Bombay, Bandra Rtn M P SINGH, and ANANDINI THAKOOR, Managing Trustee, Khar Residents Association. 17th Road - which comprises of 39 buildings - and at an average of 10 flats per build-
ing, each bldg will be supplied a ten day supply of these biodegradeable bags by Earth Soul (their principals -Novomat of Italy). These will carry only vegetable /kitchen waste, which will be collected by the Corporation and deposited in a pit at the end of 17th road, already in existence at the BMC School grounds. The monitoring would be done by our member, who lives across this site and the JO's people. Boards carrying names of individual buildings across the stretch of 17th Road from Dr. Ambedkar Road upto R.K. Mission Marg will also be installed and inaugurated by the Dist Governor, our Councillor Adv. Ashish Shelar and President, Rtn M,P. Singh. All this through the kind offices of the President of the Rotary Club of Bombay, Bandra, who are funding these boards at a cost of Rs. 25,000/-. The cost of the bio-degradable bags being supplied by Earth Soul, Mr. Viraf Mehta, their Chief Executive officer would amount to over Rs. 25,000. The first lot offered F.O.C. Each bag presently is being offered @ Rs. 5 per bag but we are trying to bring down the price to make it a viable project. At a meeting of the representatives of the buildings on 17th Road, which was held last week, everyone were happy to go in for these biodegradeable bags but it was the price which they were looking at. This is an effort on the part of ALM 129 (Khar Residents Assocation) to join the Corporation in their efforts to achieve the Zero Garbage Campaign they have launched.

THAI STYLE ROAST CHICKEN WITH SWEET POTATOES & BEETROOT

INGREDIENTS:• Chicken whole >> 1 • Potatoes >>100 gms • Beetroots >> 100 gms • Horse Raddish>> 100 gms • Basil >> 30 gms • Oyster Sauce<< 30 ml • Soy Sauce >> 10 ml • Onion >>20 gms • Celery >> 20 gms • Lemon Juice >> 20 ml • Corn Starch >> 20 ml • Salt, Sugar >> To Taste METHOD:Slash the chicken from middle in two parts. Then, wash and pat dry the chicken. For the marinate mix : olive oil lemon juice, chopped basil, salt, pepper & chili flakes. Together, rub this marinade all over the chicken - leave to marinate for two hours in the fridge. Then, cut all the vegetables in dices, marinate them with basil, salt, pepper & chili flakes. Place the vegetable in a well greased tray and then put the marinated chicken on top of the vegetable. Pre heat the owen to 180 degrees C . Place the tray in the oven for around 40 to 50 min. FOR THE SAUCE Heat oil in a pan add garlic, celery & onion till soft. Add the oyster sauce & soy sauce to it. finally Add the chopped basil chicken stock & salt pepper to it. Add the cornflour mixed in water take a big platter put the chicken in middle surrounded by the vegetables pour over the same on the chicken Garnish it with chopped coriander
CHOCOLATE MUD CAKE INGREDIENTS:• Eggs >> 6 • Brown sugar >> 100 gms • Dark Chocolate >> 500 gms • Whipped Cream>>250 gms • Orange Crush >> 60 ml
METHOD:Mix the egg and brown sugar in a bowl on a double boiler until it gets firm. Melt the dark chocolate, mix the melted chocolate and the orange crush (You Can also use vanilla essence) in it finally fold the whipped cream put the mixture in bowl. Live From The Console : Where Music Breathes
he illustrious Mehboob Studio in Bandra was the host yet again to Live from the Console, which is a monthly coming together of various musical acts. This event in the past has featured acts such as The Mavyns , Tempo Tantrick, Airport, Blakc and The Colour Compound. The fifth edition which was held this Saturday November 12th proved to be no less entertaining with acts that ranged from a singer song writer to a well established Delhi outfit. This edition too like the one’s before it did not disappoint. The event was kicked off by Vernon Noronha, Vernon who prides himself on being a singer songwriter won over pretty much everyone’s attention from the moment he stepped on stage. Armed with nothing else than a guitar he refused to let that massive stage eat him alive and stood his ground the whole 30 minutes, showing off his impressive vocal range keeping the audience entertained with songs that ranged from his originals to John Mayer and Jason Mraz covers. Vernon was followed by Spud in The

Box, a folk rock band that was founded by Ankit Dayal and Rohan Rajadhyaksha, around March 2011. Their music is quintessential easy listening and their beautiful harmonies kept the crowd moving and ensured everyone present had their feet tapping. The final act of the night was Peter Cat Recording Co, a Delhi-based band whose reputation precedes themselves. Their genre is described as Cabaret / Gypsy Golf / Bathroom Waltz and while their music does remain hard to define, one thing is guaranteed when this band takes the stage; it’s incredibly hard to take your eyes off them. The food alcohol and even the entry price (a mere 150rs) at Live from the Console is pretty affordable and it wasn’t surprising that the place was packed. Live from the Console is a brilliant initiative and the event’s past acts and future promises makes it a must visit for everyone Bandraite . Sean D’mello

Melroy gave a very meaningful and short homily and the Grace Notes Choir lead the congregation in the singing. The Celebrant and the Choir gave the mass a real touch of Catholic Praise and Worship.

That evening, turned out fun for all who attended as they heard the band cover some of their favorite Pop songs with the genre they do best. Besides, their originals, especially ‘One more chance’ certainly seemed a definite crowd pleaser. Their popularity was matched by a tremendous turnout of very supportive fans. Daniel says “ it was a really great gig and a lot of fun for us, especially when you have the crowd singing your originals, they feeling is simply unmatched” They have been playing for just over a year now. When asked about how they came about, front mad Dean had this to say, ” well it all started in college when I first saw Mikhail playing for one of the competitions , when I went and met him later I realized that

The Musicians Wall a facebook page has been opened and musicians are invited to write on this wall and upload photographs - particularly of the musicians from their family and friends who have passed away so that they can be remembered forever. we both had very common music likes. In the months to come we played many shows as a duo together. It was only until a college festival that we decided to put up a band, Mikhail and Daniel (bass) had been friends for many years so we called him he brought along Joaquim. When we jammed, it all gelled so well. Finally we completed the first band line up when Karun (who now plays for Modern Mafia) joined and the gig was a great success. So much so, that we even got the chance to open for Usha Uthup. Hansel (The Works/Supervibe) stepped on board later and from our first jam itself he just added to the perfect combination”. Chennai Teen wins Teen Pageant 2011 @ Andrew’s Auditorium
t a glittering evening on the weekend, Ms Divya Joseph of Good Shepherd Convent High School, Chennai was declared Teen of the Year 2011. The award function held at St. Andrew’s auditorium, saw the young and old cheering the finalists. Saniya Sharma from Guwahati was adjudged the 1st runner-up, while Somya Sharma from Delhi was 2nd runner-up. Amidst the participants performing on stage, Bandra boy and saxophonist Rhys Sebastian D’souza rocked the house with some classic western and Bollywood tracks. A few youngsters from the audience and all the 19 participants joined him on stage as he gave us 5 mind blowing classics. Later a dance troupe comprising Chaya Khanvate and team regaled audiences with their colorful outfits and well synchronised dancing. Bollywood starlet Ms Jacqueline Fernandez who was a special invitee for the award function, spoke volumes on the unique pagaent. She stated “This is the second time that I have attended this event and I keep coming back, because as youngsters you are the inspiration for me and I have a lot to learn from you”. She also reiterated her association with Habitat for Humanity India, and said “The Teenager magazine and Habitat for Humanity has a great role to play in the nation building the former by building houses that would ensure better living, the latter by promoting the inner light kindles in every person.” The Teen of the Year is a personality and talent pageant organized by The Teenager magazine in association with Habitat for Humanity India. This year’s theme was—‘Teens for a Socially Conscious India’ with a special focus on ‘Save Energy’. For Divya, being socially conscious is to do whatever one can to the best of one’s ability and the ‘Teen Week’ was a learning experience for her - and a life changing one too. 19 teenagers from 8 states participated in Teen week (the National Finals of TEEN OF THE YEAR 2011) held in Mumbai from 8th to 12th November 2011. These teenagers were selected from regional rounds held at Mumbai, Jaipur, Indore, Chennai, and Guwahati. In his welcome address Rev. Fr. Joshy Joseph, Editor - The Teenager magazine stated, “There is a lot to learn from these youngsters. They truly inspire and give hope, that all is not lost for our country - and it has a great future ahead. For a socially awakened and enlightened society, our youth is the only answer”. One of the 3 Judges for the evening, Mr. M.P. Singh in his short message to the participants exhorted them to grow up as responsible citizens, giving back to society and family what they have received from them. He urged them to extend their contribution for the growth of society and for a better tomorrow. Another judge, Mr Nitin Wadhwani reminded the participants that they owe a great deal to the society in which they are living and they have a huge role to play in

shaping the future of the nation. Held in Mumbai for the 16th time, The ‘Teen of the Year’ is an event with a mission and a sense of purpose, to enable each participants to let his / her inner light shine, make a difference to the world and give back to society in his / her own unique way. This event brings to the fore the ‘real’ bold and the beautiful – young Indians who deserve a name for themselves, not because they are merely beautiful externally, but because they have qualities and values that make them beautiful within. Unlike similar contests over which so much fuss is made these days, the main focus here is on the overall achievements and the total personality of the participants. What the youth of today need from adults is not so much of advice, direction, regulations etc., but an understanding heart that recognizes their creative talents, ideas and a suitable platform to express their creativity. What is sought in the Teen of the Year participants are leadership qualities, an eagerness to learn and reach out to all creations with respect and humaneness.

Premier India Football Academy FC is the men’s team of PIFA. They played in the recently concluded 2nd Division of the I-league and were runner up in the ‘Nadkarni Cup’ 2011.PIFA Colaba FC teams also plays in the elite Division of MDFA, the junior squads U-19 & U17 play in the MDFA first 1st and 2nd Division respectively. National Youth Talent Festival
s the day drew near, scores of youngsters all over the country were busy fine-tuning their skills and putting their acts together. And how could they miss an opportunity to present themselves before renowned judges, and give their best, in the hope of being known as the Talent of the Year! The ICYM-Bombay, along with the Archdiocesan Youth Commission and the Youth Activ8 organised the National Youth Talent Festival on 5th & 6th November, 2011, in a view to give an opportunity for all Catholic youth all over India a platform to showcase their talent in Dance, Singing, Instrumental or Mimicry and interact with one another. The event, in support to differently-abled youth from respected institutions – Sophia College, Dilkush & House of Charity (Versova) saw 71 participants from Mumbai alone, and 16

teams representing the different regions of India. After the success of the Mumbai Youth Festival 2009 & the YPL– 2010 the Diocesan Youth Council and the Local Organising Committee, headed by Fr.Anthony, Fr. Walter D’souza & Sr. Erica Lobo put in their mind and muscle together, to make the 2 day event not only a contest, but also a time for fellowship and entertainment for youth all over our city. The letters went out, announcements were made, and the teams got together to accommodate our National Participants, who came in from Bihar, Kolkata, Imphal, Kerala & more. Our teams worked on the decor, the events, the sound, logistics, PR, finance, registrations, games, transport house keeping and security. Day I of the event at the Goregaon seminary with the blessings of His Lordship Bishop Agnelo Gracias and paying respects to the Nation
with the unfurling of the flag. By 10am, the Mumbai Eliminations began in full swing in Asha Kiran Hall, while on the other side of the venue, 15 Catholic Orders put up Vocation stalls, with fun & games, giving a message as well as inviting youth to consider a vocation to religious life. Unique performances had everyone’s attention including some great mimicry, hitherto unknown singers, and a group performance including the twins Rex & Glen Fernandes who have also appeared on Entertainment ke liye Kuch Bhi Karega on Sony TV along with Clyde Rodricks and Shawn D’sa’s percussion. Indian classical met Western with classical performances and fusions. Many chose the event to share a social message through their voices & dance. Other food stalls, as well as stalls by our sponsors, Casio & Furtados, displayed their instruments & services. With temporary tattoos, portrait painting, and golas to remind everyone of their childhood days. We also had teams from the Pro-life, the Family Faith Foundation and volunteers from Irom Chanu Sharmila, on Satyagraha against the APFSA (since 12 years), who spread their message to the youth. The morning was packed with action and tele-games at the basketball court of the Seminary. The highlight of the telegames were the religious participating in some fun & games organised especially for them synchronised dance with prop such as brushes & fly swatters! You had to see it to believe it! The National Eliminations had 10 finalists chosen by the judges,& one among the eliminated were chosen by Public choice, in the presence of His Lordship Bishop Bosco Penha. The day ended with a Dancing session where everyone youth & adult alike, displayed their secret moves. Day II was a morning of sheer pleasure to all present at St.Andrew’s auditorium, Bandra, as the best of the nation’s youth performed for the audience and judges. Bishop Percival was

joined by our ICYM, Fr. Franklin D’souza & Fr. Alwyn D’souza of ICYM) Mr.Manual of Intelnet and Mr.Francis of Casio as our guests. Our clever compere Br. Ryan Alex had everyone in splits with his bits of mimicry & humour. The youth from Trivandrum Latin Church presented a moving dance act on the ill effects of drugs and importance of life in Jesus. With their Bboying & stunts, they, no doubt, deserved the 1st Place! It was a proud moment for all present, as Lisa Rodrigues of St. Theresa’s parish, Bandra won the 2nd place, for her rendition of ‘Think of Me’ from the ‘Phantom of the Opera’. Among the most soft-spoken of performers, John Guite enthralled the audience with his song, his own composition, as he touched the hearts with his soulful rendition sweeping the 3rd place impressed our judges, Ms.Roslyn, Sr. Maureen & Captain Jaison Thomas. We also had a lucky dip for a Blackberry against the entry coupons. Our friends from Dilkhush school picked up the lucky coupon, while talking about the work they do for the children. The sweet, shy children tugged at the audience’s heartstrings. The programme ended with a band performance by the well-known King’s Harp, who gave us Afro-style music & in a few moments had all the youth on their feet grooving to the music. With gospel and different styles, it was a GRAND way to end! Our National delegates were thrilled with what they have seen – and the opportunity given to them. Their stay with us for a few days ended with a Mumbai-darshan, as they soaked in the spirit, they were left with wonderful memories.
