Merck, I am Mr. Almeida’s son, Roger - and I would like to list things that will have to be taken into account regarding the burning issue, in your article: NOT BOLLYWOOD BUT A REALITY IN BANDRA.
I have this problem of traffic jam daily from Turner Road junction to Joggers Park during peak hours every day - particularly at the inter-section of North and South side of St. Paul Road. With vehicles coming from all four sides it is very difficult to even cross the road. I hope you will highlight this matter in the next issue of your newspaper and prevail upon the concerned authorities to do the needful at their earliest convenience.
Pesi C. Wadia ____
3.The signature campaign was strictly to clean the plot and touch up the cross, not to build a canopy, put seats, get electricity - and then try to turn it into a shrine. It’s clear that our signatures were misused. 4. Somebody is doing business on govt. land, by pretending to be a big protector of the cross - and coming out with some tall story that a builder is trying to demolish the cross and conduct a building for his monetary gain. Thank you for highlighting this matter in Bandra Buzz in an un-biased way.
to all our readers
May this local newspaper lead the way towards a brighter & better Bandra - the suburb we all love.

AUTO India Best Brands Awards 2011 held at UPCOMING EVENTS: the MCA clubhouse in Bandra Kurla Complex Magnifico alla Capobianco (Jan 17 - Mar 31)
T
he year 2010 saw phenomenal growth in the Indian automobile industry. In fact, the increase in sales numbers was far beyond that estimated by most industry experts and new records were set in several segments. This unprecedented growth was also fuelled by the introduction of several new models of cars and two-wheelers and the Indian automotive sphere buzzed constantly in 2010. With so many vehicles being introduced into the market and many more all set to hit the roads, the choice is now unlimited. But what actually drives a consumer to select one vehicle over another? Of course, the budget, user requirements, etc, all play an important role in the decision making. But one of the most vital factors is the consumer's image of the brand. And four years ago this was what led Auto India to ask: 'What do Indian consumers think of the various automotive brands?' Auto India, which is India's pioneering auto magazine, felt this question needed to be answered and they thought it would be extremely important and also exciting to find out what their readers, who include auto enthusiasts as well as the everyday car or bike buyer, thought about the various car and bike brands in India as well as internationally. So for the fourth year running, Auto India and its sister magazine, Business India published a mind-probing questionnaire in several of their issues, with respondents filling out the questionnaire and giving their views and opinions. These are firsthand findings from actual, potential and knowledgeable consumers - who are probably all the more aware about brands and trends as they are readers of Auto India, a magazine that has been shaping opinions and empowering readers for over 17 years now. After these findings were analysed and tabulated properly, a glittering and glamorous function was held on the 2nd of February, 2011 at the MCA (Mumbai Cricket Association) clubhouse in BKC (Bandra Kurla Complex). The chief guest for the celebratory evening was HH Maharana Shriji Arvind Singhji Mewar, and all the deserving winners were awarded and rewarded for the hard work they have put into building their respective brands.

Bandra Buzz FOCUS: Gorai - a great get-a-way... FARRY'S RESORT
F
arry's at Gorai, is the most romantic getaway. It is secluded, clean and indeed “heaven on earth”. There is always music in the air or should I say “Love is in the air”. Incidentally, we had our Royal Wedding Reception there till the wee hours of morn in May 2004.
...around Mumbai It is a Holiday Home for The Salsette Catholic Co-op Hsg Soc Ltd members. Thanks to Vincy D'Mello who initiated this free holiday home facility once in a year. There are ample amenities for recreation. You will find fruits, vegetables and flowers of different hues and shades. The Beach is not very far. First thing in the morning you will be greeted by toddy sellers. A dip in the ocean is healing. Thereafter the tender coconut is refreshing.
Credit goes to Naresh Rodrigues who owns this sprawling resort of 17 rooms and a team of hardworking staff. The home cooked meal is authentic East Indian cuisine. You can see the Bright Beam and happiness on the face of the staff.
"When you do the common things in life in an uncommon way, you will command the attention of the world."
Do not miss the tasty batata wadas sold in the village after 6 p.m. Also, you can take home to Mumbai fresh produce of the vegetables grown in Gorai. Visit once and experience nature at its best. - Esmeralda D'Mello — George Washington Carver

BLUES B
andraites and people from other parts of the city converged over the weekend at Mehboob studios to attend the Mahindra Blues Festival. Bollywood took a backseat on the 5th and 6th of February 2011. The studios were converted to a live concert arena for the first time. Day One and Stage One saw the Luke Kenny Mojo Jukebox, followed by American female crooner Shemekia Copeland who regaled the audience with her high pitched vocals on some slow and groovy numbers. The audience about 2000 plus, including a few firangis, walked over to Stage Three where you had guitarist Johny Lang belting out songs from his albums, producing mind - blowing guitar riffs, with powerhouse vocals.
Day Two saw Shillong's Soulmate consisting of Rudy and Tipriti aka 'Tips' hit it off with the audience, giving off an amazing set. Then came lead guitarist Matt Schofield, who played a 90 minute gig with his three piece band of bass organist and drummer. The last act was eagerly awaited. It was Buddy Guy, the main attraction. Buddy's guitar wizardry left the crowd spellbound. From playing it with his teeth, brushing it behind his backside and on his chest, to playing it behind his back, he did it all. He got naughty when he slyly put it between his legs, jabbed one liners and joked with the crowd that
Matt Schofield playing his set
But fans and music lovers were in for a bigger surprise when taking his guitar in hand, he walked down the ramp and into the crowd, right to the exit and back, giving the audience a closer view of the 5 time Grammy winner. Back on stage, he took a dig and demonstrated with his guitar what the blues sounded from Albert King, BB King, and many other blues singers. Besides performing songs from his 11 albums, he also switched to covers 'Fever', 'Mustang Sally' ending with 'Knock on Wood'. He also gigged with Johny Lang, Shemekia Copeland and Matt Schofield,
who have grown up listening to him. Truly he was still in his element. If you're wondering what went on at Stage Two, well it was the watering hole, to tank up on some alcoholic beverages and snacks. Valentine's Day Blues - by Vivek Pereira
Tears streamed down his face again As Valentine's Day approached; For on that day a year ago David's heart had been crushed. His Valentine had ditched him then And mated with his foe; It had taken him a really long time To recover from this blow.
FOR THE DRIZZLE & ICING: 4 ripe passion fruits , halved | 25g caster sugar | 200g tub soft cheese 100g softened butter | 85g icing sugar | 1 tsp vanilla extract METHOD: 1. Heat oven to 180C. Oil and line the bases of 3 x 20cm sandwich tins with baking parchment. Mix the flour, cinnamon, baking powder, half the sugar and the coconut in a large mixing bowl. In another bowl mix the beaten whole eggs, mashed bananas, grated carrot, drained crushed pineapple, milk and oil. Beat the egg whites until stiff, then add the remaining sugar and beat until stiff and shiny again. 2. Stir the wet mixture into the dry until smooth and lump-free, then using a large metal spoon or spatula, fold in the egg white mixture. Divide evenly between the tins and bake for 25 mins until risen and a skewer comes out clean. You might need to swap the position of the tins after 20 mins. 3. For the drizzle, scoop out the passion fruit pulp into a small pan. Add the pineapple juice and caster sugar and heat until bubbling, then bubble until syrupy. For the icing, beat the cheese and butter until lump-free, then beat in icing sugar and vanilla. Chill until ready to assemble. 4. Poke the cakes all over with a skewer, drizzle over most of the passion syrup, then cool. Once cool, spread the icing over two of the sponges. Sandwich together and top with the third, un-iced, sponge. Drizzle over the remaining syrup.
So, David vowed to shun this day But Fate had other plans, For he consented to a Blind Date theme: A dinner and a dance. And there she was in front of him A damsel blessed with grace; 'Twas her smile our hero loved the best It beautified her face. They strolled out together arm in arm, Two strangers so in love; He whispered sweet nothings to her Then presented a clay dove. “Take this bird and remember me,” David told his Valentine;
“For I shall be forever yours, And, my dear, you shall be mine.”

THE WHEELS OF THE BUS GO ROUND AND ROUND… …round and round, round and round The wheels on the bus go round and round, all through the town! Toddlers clapping their hands, gleeful, milk-teeth smiles shining as the teacher guides them in chorus through the nursery rhyme!
away from the approaching bus, spilling off the sidewalk onto the road like an overfull can spilling its contents out, their faces widening in a smile of anticipation and intent. What, I wondered, were they doing? And what was the joke about? What was this intent?
As the bus drew nearer, I saw it was indeed the bus we were all waiting for: 1. The bus driver swung the boxon-wheels at the crowd almost as if meaning to cut a swath through them. They scattered skillfully, [the following incidents are based on dodging the bus and letting out a shout of alarm, but maintained their a string of real-life incidents] forward momentum. I was near the footboard now, stumbling for a toe-hold. Then I was in the narrow confines of the door passage, going up the battered and rusted steps into the bus. I was careful not to catch myself on the jagged metal strips lining the doorway. To cut myself on them would mean sure gangrene! Then: I was inside. It was like stepping into a cave with hundreds of humans piled like cattle into the rectangular confines. There were bodies packed three deep in the narrow aisle between the seat rows. Add to that people carrying handbags, dented and faded briefcases, bulging havasacks, plastic bags advertising the local garment shop, and a group of laborers with their tools and you can imagine a space filled so tight that light was blotted out from the windows. The air was thick and stale. Once again I am thankful that I am tall enough so that my head is above the general height in the bus and I can breathe the air trapped above their heads and the roof of the bus; a pocket of life giving air, similar to the pocket of air trapped beneath an ice floe and the waters.

And somewhere in the darkness, the bus conductor was shouting for people to move ahead! Where to? If anyone moved ahead they'd be stepping off the front exit, falling in a untidy heap on the road! A bell rang; the bus conductor had somehow managed to pull the khakhi-colored cord that rang the bus driver. The engine revved and the bus started off from the stop, people hanging to the door and bars across the windows, sticking at least a foot out of the bus. And they were smiling! I could see dim white inverted semicircles around me. A smile of triumph! They had achieved their Mount Everest for the day. They had boarded the bus!

And they would pass on the message to the generations to follow: Don't have patience, jump into the most crowded bus, push, shove, get messed up, shout, but get on the bus at any cost! 'Any team that beat Barca become favourites’ Arsène Wenger thinks any team that beats Barcelona will immediately become favourites to win the Champions League. Pep Guardiola's side are understandably fancied to conquer Europe this season having remained unbeaten in the Group Stage, won 16 successive La Liga matches and provided the final trio listed for the FIFA Ballon d'Or award.

Anybody who beats Barcelona and knocks them out is straight away favourites for the competition,” insisted the manager. “It would be a fantastic boost [to beat them], that tells you how big this game is. “We are not favourites so it takes a little bit the pressure off our shoulders. On the other hand we are very ambitious and we want to show that we can knock them out.”
