The building is located 3 blocks from Guanabara Bay, one of the most beautiful sites in Rio. However there are no views to the bay from the interior of the building. The surrounding area is a middle class residential area with 8-12 floor high- rise apartment building dated from the 40’s to the 80’s . This is a historic preservation building owned by the city of rio de jeneiro. It was build in the beginning of the 20th century and used to be a streetcar garage facility. In the late 1960’s the garage was deactivated and the building stayed abandoned until 1985, when the Brazilian Institute of Architects rented and renovated the building to accommodate its Rio De Janerio Chapter’s facilities. The Institute is currently moving to another location and the city Intends to sell the property. It is under the Residential zoning.
