FOREWORD

At the start of the 2023/24 academic year, we welcomed Chris Sammons as our Head of School. Chris immediately injected the school with his warmth, humour and joie de vivre, complementing a year where enrolment hit record highs — an encouraging re ection of the trust our families place in us. It’s particularly heartwarming to see many alumni returning to campus with their young children, strengthening our school’s legacy.

The 2023/24 academic year also marked the launch of exciting developments under our second ten-year plan. Construction began on new Tennis Courts, alongside design planning for the Secondary Humanities building. These projects will enhance our academic programs and extra-curricular o erings, ensuring our school continues to be a hub of dynamic learning and growth.

We welcomed renowned visitors to school such as motivational and public speaker the Rt Hon Stuart Lawrence, storyteller Niall De Burca, authors Chart Korbijitti and Nawal Kalra.

Another highlight was the approval of our IB Career-related Programme (IBCP), which equips students with real-world skills alongside rigorous academic study. This programme, alongside our established IB Diploma Programme, o ers students the tools to pursue their passions and thrive in diverse elds.

In a year when we were faced with the rapid encroachment of AI, we realised that adopting new technologies comes with placing ever more importance on the strength of our personal relationships and physical interactions. The bonds between students, sta and parents were strengthened by active participation in the many community events organised by the PTG throughout the year.

With Chris Sammons at the helm, we’re con dent in achieving even greater milestones. Together, as a united community, we look forward to fostering an environment where every student thrives and excels. Here’s looking forward to another exciting chapter!

Sincerely, Dr Tarisa Watanagase Chair of the Foundation Board and School Executive Board

"At Bangkok Patana School, decision making at governance and leadership level is closely aligned to the school's guiding satements. The board and leadership uphold the guiding statements and the CIS Code of Ethics by placing those values at the centre of its planning. This is evident in all areas of operations and understood by all stakehokders as evident in the community survey. Plans are interlinked to ensure that development plans are supported by nance and resourcing.

GOVERNANCE

As a not-for-pro t organisation we do not have shareholders, therefore governance structure is even more important. It is the Bangkok Patana School Foundation Board members, the Committee and Sub-Committee members and the management whose role it is to ensure that the organisation is maintained and protected now and in the future.

The Board consists of a balance of people with the necessary skills and experience and with good relations in the local community to enable the proper and e cient supervision of the school’s operations and continued development in line with the school’s mission. To ensure that the Foundation may own land, at least half of the Board members are of Thai nationality.

At the School Executive Board, Committee and Sub-Committee level, the members have a connection to the existing community in the school and the appropriate skills to serve on their respective Sub-Committees. The school operates on a self perpetuating model for appointments of members to the Board, Committees and Sub-Committees. These appointments are overseen by the Nominations Committee and rati ed by the Foundation Board.

The Board, Committee and Sub-Committee members are volunteers and do not receive any compensation.

LETTER FROM THE HEAD OF SCHOOL

Since 1957, generations of Board Members have overseen the growth and quality of our community’s resources; they are the unsung heroes behind the scenes. They give hours of their time in an unspoken understanding that Bangkok Patana is a treasure of Thailand and South East Asia.

Our Board members gently guide the school in their decision making by reference to our values: Well-Being, Learning and Global Citizenship. Each discussion and decision made integrates these values and has one clear focus – to be of service and bene t to children. In this way, the buildings, teaching and events perpetuate an invisible bond between those who are Patana. Protecting the school’s physical assets, developing new projects, giving of themselves and their expertise for the shared love and belief in children makes our Board members a truly special team of people.

In this annual report we are able to celebrate the largest school size since our inception, the most impressive resources to date and ambitious building projects begun as part of our 10 year plan. In return, we enjoy a community of happy young people who achieve highly, progressing to remarkable destinations for their future learning and employment.

In its 66th year, it is not uncommon to nd families with four generations who are all connected to the Bangkok Patana community. Throughout their time our curriculum and teaching approaches have been honed, our resources renewed and upgraded in scale. The intangible return on investing in Patana children's success is priceless.

OUR STUDENTS

Our students bene t from being part of a large, diverse and supportive community, which presents many opportunities to enhance their learning. Our Primary School children enjoy a small-school environment within the larger community. They can feel con dent and secure within their own purpose-built 'home', where their classrooms, collaborative learning spaces and playgrounds have been specially designed for their

• Bangkok reunion.

I recently visited Thailand whilst on my honeymoon, almost 20 years after having left. Amongst the excitement of Bangkok, I also wanted to visit Bangkok Patana and show my husband, Rob, a place I have spoken very fondly about. My parents, Melanie and Douglas Elliot, were teachers at Patana and my brother, Stuart, also went to the school. It was a small but meaningful portion of all our lives.

LETTER FROM THE BUSINESS DIRECTOR

Our values of Well-Being, Learning and Global citizenship, frame our key purpose which is to enable our students to reach their full potential. These values provide a focused guide for our decision making as well as a positive motivator for our everyday work lives.

This year has been one of new opportunities grasped and of positive change in the school. We have worked hard to bring the IBCP programme to fruition. We developed our Tennis Academy infrastructure with the construction of eight new courts that are both covered and ITF Certi ed. The school continues to explore ways to improve our provisioning; keeping up to date, developing sustainably and incrementally upgrading facilities across campus on an ongoing basis.

We welcomed Mr Chris Sammons as Head of School and are thankful for all he brings to our community.

I am grateful to the Board for their guidance in these and all other matters of importance for the school and to the teams who work tirelessly for our students and community. As we develop our school, we are nding increased areas for co-operation between the academic and business teams and will be striving to further link the elements of the organisation under our values and purpose.

I am delighted and proud to be a part of the wonderful institution that is Bangkok Patana School.
