Chairman’s Report
CHAIRMAN'S REPORT JOHN MURRAY, CHAIRMAN
“I’m also very excited about our plans to merge with Greenacre Bowling Club. The agreement has been approved by members of both clubs but is still awaiting final sign-off from the government, but we are extremely happy and positive with the way things are progressing"
I would like to begin this edition by congratulating the various ClubGRANTS committees who have approved funding for some very worthwhile causes in the latest round of submissions. Bankstown Sports Club together with Birrong Sports and Bankstown Bowls was able to give more than half a million dollars to 37 local community and sporting groups in the Bankstown region, while Baulkham Hills Sports Club has supported six organisations, with almost $27,000 in grants. A breakdown of all the recipients is featured in this magazine and I encourage you to look at the list, to see exactly where the club’s earnings are being directed. Another must-read article this quarter is about a young boy by the name of Zach Facer, whose amazing act of generosity earned him a mention in the local papers, and on Channel 10 news recently. Zach is a member of the Bankstown Sports Little Athletics Club, he is an inspiration not only to his peers, but to everyone, young and old. Well done, Zach. Congratulations must go to Bankstown Sports Club Duty Manager Daniel Warren, who recently took part in the Kokoda Youth Leadership Challenge. The RSL & Services Clubs Association came up with the initiative several years ago, to offer young people working in the hospitality industry the opportunity to walk the Kokoda Track, to give them a better understanding of its significance. I spoke with Daniel when he returned from the 10-day trek and we discussed his experience in Papua New Guinea, and I genuinely believe the trip has changed his life. ClubsNSW Do Something Day has also been a highlight for our clubs in recent months. The initiative encourages individuals and organisations to carry out ‘random acts of kindness’ for someone, or something they care about. Bankstown Sports Club and its associated venues decided to hold a food-drive for the Salvation Army, and donated a mountain of non-perishable items to those in need. The club also held special fundraiser movie screenings in The Theatre for local community groups, and a portion of those ticket sales went directly back to those groups. Speaking of fundraising, our employees also took part in the RSPCA’s Million Paws Walk at Sydney
WELFARE REPORT September, October and November
Olympic Park and raised almost $700 for the charity. We also entered a team into the City2Surf charity run/walk to raise money for the Little Wings charity. The Grand Ballroom played host to the 2016 City of CanterburyBankstown Charity dinner in June, to raise money for the Foundation for Angelman Syndrome Therapeutics (FAST). Over 400 people attended the gala event including residents, business leaders, local MP’s and former Mayor Khal Asfour and his wife Sally, whose daughter Analise was diagnosed with Angelman Syndrome at 4 months old. The event raised a record $233,000 for the charity. I’m also very excited about our plans to merge with Greenacre Bowling Club. The agreement has been approved by members of both clubs but is still awaiting final sign-off from the government, but we are extremely happy and positive with the way things are progressing. I visited the Greenacre venue recently and I was very impressed by what I saw, and with our management experience and financial backing, I’m confident we can restore it to its former glory. I would like to express my gratitude to all of those members who filled out our recent ‘Tell Us More’ survey about the club, which was sent out with the Greenacre Amalgamation notice. We had a remarkable response and your feedback will help us ensure the club remains a popular destination for you. I also hope everyone who won a $100 gift card for completing the survey is enjoying their prize! And finally, I would like to thank our members and patrons for their patience as construction works are undertaken throughout the club. The development of the Basement Brewhouse and Peking Square has caused some disruption, but rest assured, we are developing our venue to make it a better experience for all.
We would like to offer our sincere condolences to the relatives and friends of members who have recently passed away: Les Blackett, Geoffrey Auburn, Phiroze BIlimoria, Robert Lynch, Alfred Straube, Colin Rogers, Boris Daszkiewicz, Julie Silk, Elsie Saunders, Eileen Deane, Brian Bellchambers, Robert Pearson, James Baker, Gary Jamieson, Ronald Diamond, Neville Chapple, John Theobald, Allan Muller, George Kimpton, Elaine Burge, Norma Millard, James Williamson, Norman Gilbert, John Hitchcock, Warren Mc Kee, Elva Moore, John Semmens, Harry Stuart, Robert Burton, Mino Marchiori, Arthur Bush. The following members were reported as being in hospital and on behalf of our President, Directors and all our members we wish them a speedy recovery: John Komadina.

Flying high! When Zach Facer celebrated his birthday this year, he didn’t ask for the latest video game or a new pair of shoes. He didn’t even ask to have his favourite food for dinner. He asked his friends and family for money… but it wasn’t for him. Zach wants to be a pilot when he grows up. It’s been his dream ever since he visited the Little Wings hangar at Bankstown Airport with the Bankstown Sports Little Athletics Club in 2015, to present the charity with a donation cheque. On that day, he got to see the Little Wings plane up close and met the pilot, who inspired his love of aviation. Rewind to Monday, 27 June 2016, and Zach is back at the hangar with his dad Greg, his mum Anna, and little brother Oliver, but he’s not there to present another cheque. This time it’s Little Wings saying thank you to him, for an incredible act of generosity. It was Zach’s birthday over the June long weekend and instead of thinking about a list of presents he wanted from friends and family or planning a party with his friends like most other 10 year olds would be doing, he decided to raise money for Little Wings, to help them continue the great work that they do transporting sick children and their families from rural areas of NSW, to medical treatment facilities in Sydney. He set a goal of $500 and asked everyone to donate the money they would have spent on presents, to Little Wings. Within days, the donations started pouring in and before long, he had raised over $1,800! His mum Anna says they have been blown away by the support Zach has received. “We have been so overwhelmed by the response from everyone. His family, friends
and school mates have been so supportive. Everyone just got behind him and were more than happy to take up the cause and donate. “I’ll admit, we were a little surprised when Zach came to us with his idea to donate his present money, only because we weren’t really sure if he understood that it meant he wouldn’t be getting any actual presents for his birthday. But being his 10th birthday which is a bit of a milestone for a kid, I think he realised it was a special occasion and really wanted to go ahead with it all, so we did!” Managing Director of Little Wings, Richelle Koller, says they rely on donations from the community, and Zach’s contribution will go a long way. “Zach’s donation will go towards funding more flights and more ground transfers for seriously ill kids who need treatment in Sydney and Newcastle. The families that use our service live in rural parts of the state and it’s often impossible for them to get to their medical appointments without our help. We are so impressed and humbled by Zach’s generosity and thoughtfulness at such a young age, and his ability to put himself in the shoes of other kids who are sick and doing it tough. He is a true role model”. Support has also been given to Little Wings through the latest round of ClubGRANTS, to assist with the rental of their plane hangar at Bankstown Airport. If you would like to donate to Little Wings, visit www.littlewings.org.au Bankstown Sports InTouch

ST FRANCIS SOCIAL SERVICES
ARCHIE THE ELDER CLOWN – BANKSTOWN CITY AGED CARE
Boss program, to improve quality of life for over 100 residents living with dementia. Diversional Therapist Rachael Magrin says the Elder Clowns have had a huge impact on everyone at the centre. “This program really has improved the quality of life for every patient who has been a part of it, especially those suffering from dementia and who may be a little isolated. We make the visits about something the resident wants, or needs it to be. They get to choose what they do with the Elder Clowns, which gives them a bit of control back”.
Our time to
GIVE BACK! Hundreds of thousands of dollars has been poured back into the community to help those most in need under the ClubGRANTS program, and Bankstown Sports Club was the biggest contributors for the local region. 37 local community groups who support the diverse needs of the Bankstown region have been given more than half a million dollars in funding from Bankstown Sports Club, in the latest round of ClubGRANTS. Every year, about 500 clubs across NSW allocate funds to help community groups, charities and sporting teams in need. Last year, registered clubs gave more than $100 million in support, and since the program began, more than $1 billion has been distributed. 6
Bankstown Sports InTouch
The Bankstown ClubGRANTS committee is made up of representatives from clubs in the local area, including Bankstown Sports Club, Bankstown Sports Bowls, Birrong Sports, Revesby Workers, Bankstown RSL, Condell Park Club, Panania Diggers, Chester Hill Bowling and Recreation, Mt Lewis Bowling and Padstow RSL. Among the recipients were Bankstown City Aged Care who received support to implement the Elder Clown and Laughter
St Francis Social Services also received a grant to help with their Greenlight Movement, which teaches underprivileged teens to drive; the Leukaemia Foundation received $7,550 to help with its Patient Transport Program; The Shepherd Centre for Deaf Children have been given funding to help with emotional and educational support for families in the Bankstown area; and Mission Australia’s early intervention program to recognise the signs and symptoms of sexual abuse has also been supported. Bankstown Sports Club CEO, Mark Condi, says the ClubGRANTS scheme has become a vital lifeline for people most in need in our community. “The Bankstown region is such a diverse community with a broad spectrum of ages, nationalities and socio-economic backgrounds. We are one of the fastest growing regions in Sydney when it comes to population, and that kind of growth often puts a strain on our community resources. ClubGRANTS is a way for us to try and ease that pressure, to try and help many local service organisations continue to provide the services they do”.

Kokoda youth LEADERSHIP CHALLENGE
ClubsNSW sends a group of young people on a truly life-changing trip to walk the Kokoda Track… The Kokoda Trail is widely regarded as one of the world’s greatest, and most beautiful walking tracks in the world, despite its history as the scene of bitter fighting between Australian and Japanese armies during the early days of World War II. For many, the 155km path through the rugged wilderness of Papua New Guinea has also become the backdrop for a truly life-changing experience. Recognising the significance of the track for younger generations, the RSL & Services Clubs Association developed the Kokoda Youth Leadership Challenge, to offer young people the opportunity to walk the track, to give them a better understanding of the history behind it. Candidates were asked to
8

submit an application detailing why they wanted to be part of the trip, and those chosen were identified as being potential leaders in the future, who have the ability to inspire and educate other youths in their local communities. Bankstown Sports Club Duty Manager Daniel Warren was selected to take part in the challenge this year. Alongside 15 other young leaders from the hospitality industry and more than 30 crew members from local villages, he set off on the trek at the beginning of August and successfully walked 140km, over 9 days. Over the course of the trip they climbed to 14 different mountain tops and reached a peak of 2250m above sea level, and Daniel says it

was one of the toughest challenges he’s ever faced, both physically and mentally. But he admits, the experience has made him very grateful for the life he has in Australia. “It was incredible to see how happy the locals are despite the appalling conditions they have to live in every day. Most of them live with the bare minimum. At one of the main villages we stopped at, we donated a whole lot of books, stationary and sporting gear to the local school to help the students. You should have seen their faces! The smiles on their faces were priceless!”. It wasn’t all smooth sailing though, as one of the trekkers had to be rushed to hospital. “One of the trekkers came down with a bug or something and within half an hour, he’d lost movement in his hands and legs. He was sweating but was complaining of being cold and was drifting in and out of consciousness.
“Our guides had to call in a helicopter to get him to hospital in Port Moresby. Two army sergeants in our group quickly made a stretcher using a sleeping bag and pieces of wood, and along with a few of the locals, they carried him back down the trail. The men then rolled around on the grass to create a flat patch big enough for the helicopter to land. “We later heard from the doctor that had it not been for the quick response from our crew and trek leader Charlie Lynn, the man probably wouldn’t have made it”. “Walking the Kokoda Trail is something I have wanted to do since I was a teenager. I have always been involved in ANZAC day commemorations with my dad and it means so much to be able to experience first-hand, the history of Kokoda and what our soldiers went through. I would like to sincerely thank ClubsNSW for giving me this opportunity”.

BASEMENT BREWHOUSE
IS ALMOST HERE! Promising new beers, a new menu and a unique new atmosphere right in the heart of Bankstown, the Basement Brewhouse inside Bankstown Sports Club is shaping up to be one of Sydney’s premier destinations. We are delighted to confirm the new Basement Brewhouse inside Bankstown Sports Club will officially open on November 1, 2016! Construction is well underway with the former Total Sports Bar being redeveloped into a brand new in-house microbrewery, where we will be able to create and brew our own craft beer. Our brewers are hard at work trialling new recipes and deciding which combinations will give our members and patrons the best craft brew experience. The new Basement Brewhouse will be a new and completely unique venue for the Bankstown area, offering something for everyone, with a focus on quality, flavour and technique, rather than volume of alcohol produced. The special four-vat
system will allow us to create four different flavours and styles of beer at any one time, as often as we like. We will also have over 20 other independent boutique and craft beers on tap, as well as cocktails and wine to cater for all tastes. Bankstown Sports Club Executive Chef Helmut Gundendorfer is finalising the menu items for the Burger Bar and delicatessen, sourcing the finest ingredients and creative options to tantalise the tastebuds. Among the new additions to the menu, the Flamin’ Scotch Burger, with a grain-fed Darling Down scotch fillet, caramelized onion, charred peppers, crispy bacon, butter lettuce, gruyere and tomato relish. Zorba the Greek is one of our lamb burgers, featuring 7-hour pulled Victorian

lamb shoulder, halloumi, oak lettuce, red onions, parsley, roasted peppers and tzatziki. There will also be a range of chicken burgers, pork burgers and a veggie burger, with a choice of either milk, brioche or pretzel buns. Also on the menu, a selection of sliders, fries and hot dawgs. Styling for the Basement Brewhouse will be very modern industrial, with exposed gold and copper piping, and large cement pillars with timber and metallic features. The room will be multi-functional with an open plan layout for large events, that can be divided up into multiple sections to cater for smaller, more intimate functions. This venue will have a number of TV screens for public and private
viewing. In the interim, our new Sports Lounge is open with access from the stairs near the main club lifts, next to the rainforest. It is equipped with a bar and TAB facilities and has a quiet, intimate feel. Planning for the Basement Brewhouse Grand Opening is underway with food and beverage menus in the final stages of approval. We want the venue to appeal to a much broader audience than a regular sports bar. We want it to be a venue where you can have a few drinks with friends, come and watch a game. We’re looking forward to seeing what you all think once we open the doors!
The special four-vat system will allow us to create four different flavours and styles of beer at any one time, as often as we like.

Introducing
PEKING SQUARE A new food precinct is coming to Bankstown Sports Club with Yum Cha and traditional a-la-carte Asian cuisine. If you have visited Bankstown Sports recently, you would have seen the array of construction works underway where the former Total Sports Bar used to be, and also along the walkway to The Grand Ballroom, opposite San Churro. We are in the midst of a some major developments, and have some very exciting news about a new venue that will open in December 2016, and promises to take your Asian dining experience to a whole new level. Peking Square will offer diners in Bankstown a truly authentic Asian experience, mixing the old with the new. It will sit adjacent to Lucky Cheng’s, it will be able to seat over 300 people and will
feature yum cha and modern a-la-carte Asian cuisine. There will be 4 private dining spaces, each individually decorated in an authentic Asian theme, as well as a Tea House which will serve an array of traditional Chinese beverages. The venue will have a similar feel to Lucky Cheng’s but the design will be ‘next level’, with cobble-stone floors, eclectic furniture with a mix of high and low tables, and open kitchens which will feature a fully operational duck oven. Peking Square will be casual dining and will take both bookings and walk-ins. It will operate 7 days a week for lunch and dinner, and is due to open in December this year.

Oktoberfest is the world’s largest beer festival and travelling funfair, held annually in Munich, Bavaria and Germany. Traditionally, it is a 16-day folk festival and more than 6 million people from around the world attend the event every year. If you’re looking for an authentic experience a little closer to home, look no further than Platform One, inside Bankstown Sports. We have a delicious 3-course menu available from our award winning Executive Chef, Helmut Gundendorfer, throughout the month of October.
You will start with a German pretzel which is accompanied by an authentic German dip, followed by a succulent pork knuckle, cooked fresh daily, and served with sauerkraut, mash and jus. And for dessert, a melt-in-your-mouth apple strudel served warm with a dollop of ice cream. The servings are big and the food is rich and delicious! Executive Chef Gundendorfer decided to keep the menu similar to last year’s because it was such a big hit. “People love Oktoberfest! Last year we had about 300 people dine with us on the exclusive menu and we had some really good feedback. The combination of hearty German food and Stiegl beer makes for such a good meal. I’m really looking forward to this year’s festivities!” Our exclusive Oktoberfest menu will be available at Platform One, Monday to Saturday from 26 September to 31 October, 2016.

Nestlé Golden
CHEF'S HAT AWARDS Young chef Sarah Hanslow and apprentice Sammy Carbone have won silver in this year’s culinary competition. FROM LEFT: APPRENTICE CHEF SAMMY, EVENT SOUS CHEF RIAD, EXECUTIVE CHEF HELMUT & CHEF SARAH
Sarah says the whole competition was a great experience. “Being part of this competition has been amazing. We have met some very talented chefs and learned a lot from the judges and mentors. I would definitely encourage other young chefs to get involved if they are ever given the opportunity”. Bankstown Sports Club Executive Chef Helmut Gundendorfer says to come second is a great achievement.
The Nestle Golden Chef’s Hat Award is the longest running culinary competition in Australia, offering young chef’s and apprentices the chance to showcase their skills against their peers, while being mentored and judged by some of the best in the business. The competition, which began in 1965, puts young cooks against each other in a state-wide cook-off, before the winners go head to head in a national final. Bankstown Sports Club is pleased to announce young chef Sarah Hanslow and apprentice chef Sammy Carbone came second in the NSW Metropolitan final of the 2016 Nestle Golden Chef’s Hat Award, which was held at TAFE NSW Northern Sydney Institute in Ryde. 16
Bankstown Sports InTouch
Competitors were given 3 hours to cook a main meal and a dessert, chosen from a selection of dishes set out by the judges. Teams were judged on professional preparation and practice, presentation, taste and control of cooking process. Sarah and Sammy decided on a smoked lamb rump, served with an almond and rosemary encrusted lamb rack, creamy polenta, citrus fennel salad and rhubarb relish for their main, and a trio of mousses with rhubarb syrup and cannoli for dessert. Judges awarded them the best dish on day one of the competition, but they were narrowly pipped at the post by another team on day two, with just a few points separating first and second place.
“There were at least 20-25 teams in the competition so to come second is pretty good! They did well! They trained really hard for the event and all the chefs here gave them a hand. They were very dedicated and ended up doing a marvellous job. “I think a competition like Golden Chef’s Hat gives young chefs a lot of confidence. There are a lot of teams to compete against and I think when you perform against your peers you get a good indication of where you stand in the industry. For Sarah and Sammy to come second is proof of their talent”. Bankstown Sports CEO, Mark Condi, says Sarah and Sammy should be very proud of their achievement. “They were up against some of the best young chefs in the business, and to finish second in such a prestigious competition is an incredible feat. They are a great representation of the club and I would like to commend them on all their hard work”.

Editorial
20 years
IN SHOWBIZ! This Aussie comedian came from humble beginnings and is now selling out theatres and stadiums around the world… and he’s coming to Bankstown Sports Club this month! When Joe Avati was growing up, he wanted to be a rockstar. Problem was, he couldn’t sing. And according to his dad, Italians weren’t rockstars. Not to be disheartened, he taught himself to play the piano and guitar and he wrote a few of his own songs, finishing high school with a composition major. He then completed a Food Science degree at university which he finished with a distinction average, and he went on to help create the Streets Magnum ice cream! Comedy didn’t come until a little bit later in life when Joe’s friends convinced him to go to an open mic night at Sydney’s Original Comedy Store. Within 6 months he’d been given his first paid gig, and he’s now selling out arenas around the world! Joe is bringing his award winning show back to Bankstown Sports this September and says he’s drawn a lot of inspiration from everyday things, and kids.
“There will be a lot of new material at the show. I’ve been writing a lot of new stuff over the past 6 months and I’ve been trialling it at a few different venues and it’s working really well. He says he likes performing what the audience wants to hear, so he just asks them! “I actually ask the audience what they want to hear. In the 30 minutes before the show I ask them to tweet or private message me on Facebook and tell me the topics or segments they want me to do. I then make a mental note and try and get through all of them in the show! I don’t have a set list anymore so no two shows are ever the same. It makes shows a lot more fun for me too! I love the improvisation!”. Joe Avati is at Bankstown Sports Club on Friday 23 September. To purchase tickets at BankstownSports.com or at main reception.

Putting on
THE RITZ! She’s back, and she’s more fabulous than ever! Australia’s darling of the stage is celebrating 30 years in the entertainment business and she’s bringing her glamorous new production to Bankstown Sports. Rhonda Burchmore OAM is bringing 1930’s elegance and glamour back to Bankstown Sports Club this October with her Fred Astaire and Ginger Rogers-inspired stage show Putting on the Ritz. With her effortless grace and scintillating dance moves, she will perform classics by Cole Porter, George and Ira Gershwin and Irving Berlin in the style they were originally written, to transport you back to the era of swing. With a smile that could light up the Harbour Bridge and a voice that could raise the roof of the Sydney Opera House, Burchmore’s 30 years in show business shines through every time she steps out on stage. The vivacious, flame-haired beauty continues to turn heads wherever she goes and is one of Australia’s leading performers.

With experience on London’s West End, five music albums and lead rolls in several Australian stage productions including Guys & Dolls, Calendar Girls and Mama Mia!, it’s not surprising Burchmore has been awarded an OAM for her service to the performing arts and community. She’s at Bankstown Sports on Friday 7 October with her dance partner Max Trengrove and a fabulous five-piece band, to impress, entice and enthral audiences once again! PET THERAPY Baulkham Hills Sports committee has chosen to support six vital services in the local area through the ClubGRANTS program, including a very worthwhile charity in Gordon. Pets are an integral part of many people’s lives. They bring families closer together, they provide physical and emotional support, life-long companionship, and an undeniable love. Australia has one of the highest rates of pet ownership in the world, with 63 per cent of households currently owning an animal. But for many people living in hospitals, nursing homes and other care facilities, having access to a pet can be challenging.
to 30,000 people over the next year. This year, Baulkham Hills Sports Club recognised the incredibly important work this group does, and has given over $4,500 through ClubGRANTS to help train 10 volunteers and their pets to provide pet therapy treatment.
That’s where Velma’s Pets as Therapy Association comes in. They train volunteers and their animals to be therapy pets, visiting adults and children living in care centres to bring a little bit of joy and laughter to their day. They also train dogs, cats, rabbits and birds to be companion pets for the elderly and frail living in residential care.
Several other community groups in the Baulkham Hills area also received support from the club through ClubGRANTS, including the Indian Crisis and Support Agency which received $6,100 to help with its domestic and family violence prevention program, Autism Spectrum Australia was given funding for specialist therapy for 12 school students in the area, and support for Kookaburra Kids will help children who are living in a family affected by mental illness, with a weekend away for some rest and relaxation.
Velma’s is a self-funded registered charity based in Gordon in the Hills Shire District. All of the animals they train are rescued from shelters and the team is aiming to visit close

DIAMONDS ARE FOREVER We’re bringing you a very sweet love story from Birrong Sports in this edition, celebrating an unconquerable and enduring love. 60 years is a long time on anyone’s watch and Birrong Sports would like to congratulate members Noel and Ada Trevena who celebrated their Diamond wedding anniversary on March 23 this year. The couple celebrated the milestone with their family on their annual trip away to Fingal Bay, north of Sydney, over the Easter long weekend. 82-year-old Noel and 81-year-old Ada have been associated with Bankstown Sports Club and its associated venues since the 50’s and both have been on-and-off members over the last 6 decades. Noel played football for Western Suburbs from 1952-1964 and was also a member of the cricket team from 1949, before he transferred to Bankstown in 1956.
Ada was also involved in the local sporting teams and often worked in the canteen and scored games. In the mid-50’s, they moved to Bankstown and built their first home where they raised 5 children. They still live in that house today and have regular visits from their 12 grandchildren! Noel and Ada decided to take up lawn bowls in 2000 and joined Birrong Bowling Club, where Noel is a part of the pennants competition. Ada is also a regular at the club and is an avid bingo player! The Trevena’s say they’re still very much in love and believe the secret to long and happy marriage is keeping your family happy and together.

IT'S A LONG,
LONG ROAD…
We never question the dedication our staff have for their jobs… but there are a few that standout from the rest. How much do you love your job? How far would you commute for that job? Our dedicated Venue Manager at Bankstown Bowling Club spends 3 hours getting to and from work every single day! Vince Bruning has been working for Bankstown Sports Club and its associated venues for 25 years and for 16 of them, he has been driving to and from his home in Kiama, south of Sydney. Vince began his career at Bankstown Sports as a ‘useful’ and was living at Revesby, before moving to Campbelltown. He often holidayed on the south coast with his family and loved it so much he decided to relocate. But instead of looking for work down there, he decided the 3-hour daily long commute was worth it, if it meant he could continue working at the club and work his way up through the ranks. He spent several years as a Duty Manager at Bankstown Sports before being promoted to Venue Manager for the bowling club. Every day he gets up at 5am, leaves home by 6am and is in the office at 7.30am, ready to start his shift at 8am. He then finishes at 5pm and starts the trip home.
“My wife thinks I’m crazy and she worries about me on the road, but it’s not so bad now that I’m not working graveyard shifts. That was tough starting at 9pm, finishing at 7am and then driving the 90 minutes home”. When asked why he does it? “I just love the club. I love the people too. I’d like to stick around for a little while longer!”

Sports Report
TOUCH FOOTBALL We have a new addition to the Bankstown Sports community! Bankstown Touch Association has joined our network of associated sporting clubs, under the club’s new strategic 5-year plan to become more involved in the local Bankstown community, and beyond. The partnership will help the club develop a sustainable administration structure to solidify the future of Touch Football in the Bankstown region, with clubs in many other areas including Liverpool and Blacktown forced to shut down recently, due to low membership numbers. The new addition of Touch Football will complement Bankstown Sports’ winter football codes by providing an off-season alternative for our athletes in the summer. Touch is an all-age sport played by men and women and is one of nine clubs/associations within the Sydney Rebels region. It is a not-for-profit club run by volunteers, and offers junior development and elite pathways programs.
The club celebrated their 25th season launch on Saturday, 9 July, which was their first as an associated club of Bankstown Sports. Players, parents, committee members, directors and invited guests attended the evening, where their new-look jerseys were unveiled and each team named their captains for the season. We would like to wish all teams the best of luck for the season ahead! If you would like to get involved in Touch Football, please contact Club Secretary Nathan Loveday – bankstowntouch@gmail.com
Bankstown Sports Club proudly supports 42 sporting clubs. These clubs are run by volunteers for the community. To get involved as a participant or volunteer, see the sports secretaries list over the page.
