KINETIC BEHAVIOUR AND APPLICATION IN DESIGN

The most prominent question which arises in our minds about lives lived before us is that what were the pre habitant basis to life on Earth we all now sustain. The answer remains simple: No adjustment, No future, Adapt and survive. Solely based on the pre habitant terms of survival, the derivative of environmental surroundings, structural susceptibility, functional requirements and containments, quality and diversity in forms found in various sections of sentient lives and value of time and cost it comes to at evaluation can be brought to a conclusion. When it comes to deriving kinetic behaviour and applying its energy to benefit manmade design, certain spatial adjustments are required to be made so as that easy assistance can be provided and the space interaction can be stepped up to another level. Kinetic Behaviour allows the space elements to interact among themselves with or without the involvement of humans making it naturally efficient and simpler. The variables of the sources to protract Kinetic energy from depends on variety of geometric forms and transmuting requisites, which could be decided depending upon the amount of human interaction required in the functionality of the outcome product being expected. Implementation Kinetic behaviour requires a response based design. It is a subtle blend of functionality and computational technology using geometric forms which can be applied using natural procured materials or through manmade advancement available in society. Many such implementations are co fabricated with digitally managed techniques as well, making the operation even more simpler. Kinetic behaviour and application in design

The plan is to observe the movement of elements present in our surroundings and creating a concept imitating similar moves which then transmits motion and through that the force and energy being generated gets shifted from source to the output point. This approach towards application of Kinetic behaviour is termed as motion design concept. We aim to select the most suitable dynamic system available in a pool of variety which are all applicable in different aspects, hence making our concept effectively functional. Contingency is preferred more than consistency as it makes the outcome behave more efficiently depending upon the user and usage. Since Kinetic behaviour is recorded through movement of various forms, it provides an extremely interactive dialect with a response based platform. Apart from its requirement of a complex paradigm, the system generated to extract the energy through is also really flexible, user friendly and ecologically logical. According to the Kinematic actions involved in the process the two sets of solutions can be segregated. The first is static solution where a set amount of pressure is transmuted for a response which is proportionate to the form involved and output required. The other one is macrocosmic solution where there is no pre set pressure, the space is designed in such a way which adapts itself to change according to its need. This method is extensively applied and used as it makes the functionality of the system absolutely fluid and responsive. Coming over to the mechanism part of the concept being discussed to apply the energy being derived through kinematic actions, there is a systematic approach to go about selecting and applying the basis of the mechanism. After identification of the design problem, a logical and systematical design solution is concluded so that an optimal selection of mechanism to be used can be made. The mechanism through which the process is to be conducted should be functionally efficient and the quality of the mechanism should support its performance rate. Based on the wide range of forms, shapes of diversified architecture and design; the material through which transmutation occurs and the whole concept is worked through also has its own range of form, texture, availability, speed, mobility, behaviour and subversive qualities. According to primitive availability, the two categories dividing the range of forms for the transmutational basis are Soft: Umbrella, Spring loaded, Joint fold and Rigid: Pivot, Slide, fold, Rotate. All these forms are shape shifters hence creating the required movement. As per interior design elements, the requirement basis for these forms are broadly divided into two categories; one is the light weight structure which favours a hollow material selection and the other one is intelligent mechanism which is majorly channel and bearing based.

“Kinetic design is not about inventing but about improving to match an effective function”

The common mechanism of retractability and interchangeable mechanism is being applied in intelligent buildings, mobile buildings, convertible indoor outdoor structures as it is fluid in nature and also extensively promotes sustainability. Apart from the now common Kinematic actions, some upcoming systems are listed below with their noticeable attributes. 1. Scissors like retractable fittings • Retractable • Set pressure • Directional • Sideways performance 2. Time responsive surfaces • High strength fabric • Flare movement • Daylight detector • Flexible 3. Butterfly extension fittings • Openable and extendable fixtures • Ball bearing interlocking system • Jaw mounted 4. Breathing walls (kinetic walls) • traditional insulation layering • thermal exposure exchange • crossover walls • nanotechnology: shape memory material 5. Shape memory textile • strings of metal: dispersed in several parallel sections • regulating proper ventilation • temperature maintenance • Effectively functional • senses heat (when temperature rises- metal bends- reduces the space between strings- when temperature rises- remoulded to primary shape)
