THE COURSE

JARED CHIPLEY - BANYAN CAY GOLF PROFESSIONAL

WHAT INSPIRES YOU? This is a question I get asked often. But, if you are a member at Banyan Cay and play this course often, you'll understand my answer.

THE CHALLENGE. It is not so much a lower score or the perfect putt, but the actual challenge or conquest of the entire course.

All 130 acres of thoughtful design and

carefully placed bunkers make for an obstacle course that is stimulating both physically and mentally.

BANYAN CAY HOLE 1 - PAR 4 With banyan trees lining the elevated right side of the fairway, this hole can reward a good tee shot and set up for an easy approach; a long drive can even leave just a pitch in some cases.

Jared Chipley Head Golf Professional

BANYAN CAY HOLE 2 PAR 3 A varied strategy created by water and bunker placements is required to master this par 3. Water on the right and bunkers to the left leave a narrow opportunity to place the perfect shot. Too far left and an up-hill chip to the green is required.

BANYAN CAY HOLE 3 - PAR 4 Aim toward the Banyan Tree in the middle of the fairway and slightly left. Once on the right sloping green avoid the bunkers that guard the front and left side of this oblong target.

BANYAN CAY HOLE 4 - PAR 4 The tree lined fairway offers a curved path to the right that is strategically bunkered with rolling mounds and a slight elevation on the left. A long tee shot with careful placement lines up to the green with ample space to achieve par.

BANYAN CAY HOLE 5 - PAR 3 This eye-catching par 3, beautifully framed by areca palms, is all carry to a varied green complex and guarded by a pot bunker to the right. Bail out is left for those who want to remain dry. Precision hitters should favor a high left-to-right shot.

BANYAN CAY HOLE 6 - PAR 4 This hole is all about the approach shot. Water borders the entire left side, and a missed approach shot will land in the bunker. From here strategy is imperative to avoid getting carried into the heavy slope leading into the water.

BANYAN CAY HOLE 7 - PAR 5 A beautiful par 5 set up by an uphill tee shot to one of the highest points on the course. Most players will layup to a tight landing area with water on the right and bunkers on the left. If you choose to go for it in two, you will be faced with a tough task of keeping it on a peninsula green.

BANYAN CAY HOLE 8- PAR 5 A long par 5 with a wide tee shot to an expansive fairway. The lake comes into play on the second shot stretching over to the left with strategically placed bunkers throughout the fairway. The tree lined narrow approach is guarded by elevated greens and the deepest bunker on the golf course.

BANYAN CAY HOLE 9 - PAR 4 The water doesn’t necessarily affect your tee shot but it does provide a picturesque view before making the turn to Hole 10. Fairway bunkers to the left protect the left side and the extensive green is saddled by sidefacing bunkers. The green has two shelves with elevation not typically seen on a Florida course.

BANYAN CAY HOLE 10 - PAR 5 Finding the fairway on this short par 5 dogleg left is a must if you want to go for it in two. Players missing the fairway right will be in the trees lining the right side of the fairway forcing you to layup. Golfers that are going for it will need to navigate between the water short left of the green and the bunkers on the right side.

BANYAN CAY HOLE 11 PAR 3 Challenge yourself with this par 3 that soars over a water obstacle. The green is protected by a total of three bunkers with a sod-wall bunker anchored in the center of the green.

BANYAN CAY HOLE 12 - PAR 4 Tricky shot with water lining the left side of the fairway and a bunker splitting the middle making a challenging tee shot. The short approaches are encumbered by the unique sod-wall bunker in the middle of the green. That’s right – Jack Nicklaus placed bunker in the middle of the green.

BANYAN CAY HOLE 13 - PAR 4 From the tee, strategically placed bunkers provide targets to work your ball around or over. The fairway cascades down and slightly to the right. A well-placed tee shot will result in a low iron approach to an undulating green. Surrounding slopes provide creative access to pin placements.

BANYAN CAY HOLE 14 - PAR 3 Carry the tee shot over the water to the right side of the green, and the ball will trickle down the to a sweet spot. Players try to avoid the deep bunkers that guard the left side and angle off into the rough.

BANYAN CAY HOLE 15 - PAR 4 Long par 4 with a narrow landing bordering a pristine lake on the left side of the fairway. A hidden bunker lies just in the back of the green and creates a natural stop for long drives with a sod-walled bunker intercepting shorter shots to keep players alert and focused.

BANYAN CAY HOLE 16 - PAR 4 This risk-reward par 4 can be reached with an aggressive tee shot. Anything even slightly to the left will find the water. Ideal tee shots are played with a long iron or hybrid staying in between the water lining the left and the protruding bunkers on the right. The short approach is no easy task as the green slopes from front to back sloping toward the water.

BANYAN CAY HOLE 17 - PAR 4 A long par 4 made longer if your drive misses the right. With no immediate danger left or right of the fairway, the approach is the daunting part. There are two bunkers on the left and right that keep parts of the green hidden. It is easy to under estimate the power of the shot at hand.

BANYAN CAY HOLE 18 PAR 5 One of the longest holes on the course with a generous landing area. You only have one option, grip it, and rip it! Be careful of the water hugging the right side of the green. If you choose to lay up the signature Banyan, the left becomes an obstacle. Tricky hole locations make the hole even more difficult.
