SITE
SPATIAL COMPOSITION It is the first model I made, very new experience and challenge to me, and it was fun to play with wire to build a grid and shape it to a structure has several levels with expand of space.
Union lawn is sournding by Union house, Baldwin Spencer building, MSD and Redmond Priestley, which about 85 meters wide and 87 meters long. It is a concrete lawn.
The main structure are combined by two ‘webs’, bended like two sides of wings which connected at a point. However, because of the hollow grids, it will not give a sense of pressure or closed, even has an open view of sky. Light can go through and has a beautiful shadow.
- The movement of passerby People go across union lawn from different directions to differnt places. At 9 a.m. in the morning, the most people comes from school gates and walk straight to classrooms. Around 12p.m. is lunch time, students finish lectures and tutorials will go to union house to have lunch. 3 p.m. and 6 p.m. have less students go into buildings compare with before, and some vehicles go through the lawn. It is easy to find that bicycles will always on the way to bike parking. Plan Scale 1:1

ASSEMBLAGE
The assemeblage model combined several ideas come from spatial composition and landforming, such as the pyramid frame and the shaped wires. The composition strategy is disjunction, so that I used two different material and the timbe frame is straight, stable compared with the thin, soft and free shape wire. The star was adding on the first design which was an idea came from Front view daily life. The wire around the triangle looks mess and disorder, especially when I had bad mood. Therefore, the star added which aim to represent there will always luck and hope appear.

Technique: extrusion. The idea of landforming model comes from the natural environment, the mountain. It build based on two pyramids at the conner and middle of ground and by adding other items which mainly triangle shapes. Then, the landform naturally comes out with peaks, ridges, cants and valleys.
It is suggested that the items made of wire can be hold up which fit the compositional strategy more, and gives the feeling of disjunction.

SPATIO-TEMPORAL NARRATIVE upset, crying

MEETING Summer afternoon. A crying girl is looking for a chair in park. A boring boy walk and then sit on a bench in the park.

An unpredictable meeting of them, that they choose the same bench and sit side by side. Girl cried gerself to sleep, by boy’s shoulder.

A nice smile while she waking up changes their day.

The theme of it is meeting. The meeting that I narrative is anunpredictable meeting happens everywhere id real life, sometimes when I feel upset, something small but nice and warm always make my mood much better than before. The attitude of faceing trouble would be optimisic and always be nice to others.
An paper cut with hand drawing visual collage looks a bit stuffless, so I add the weather components (signs) to represent the changes of boy and girl’s feeling. Maybe use actual pictures of weather such as thunder, rain or sunshine will be better for understanding.
SUPERIMPOSITION COLLAGE
There are two superimposition collage, based on different steps of my narrative story. Excpet of the site plans, assemblage plan and spatio-temporal narrative collage, I add two actural pictures of rain and sunshine to express the mood changes in the meeting story. The first one use blue to be the dominant hue, which represents the sad at first.
SUPERPOSITION COLLAGE
The second one use the comparison between bright color and dark color to show the scene that sunshine go through heavy cloud and rainbow appears after rain, that represent the things will getting better. The girl is facing the direction that sunshine comes from.

The main structure, these colorful canopys is high which is significant from far distance. People can choose the color they like and find the color which represnet their feeling. Instead of looking friend around a large space, it is easy to find people who will meet with you when you say ‘I am under the yellow one’ .

It is a open meeting place. All stairs are made for sit, also the levels which are irregular shapes divided the area with different size of space for different meeting, such as group meeting and couple meeting. They can choose to stand at middle or sit at corner. The seats have two heights that the lower one i seat, highter one can be the table.
