BREAKING BARRIERS: Lean into Inclusion
Welcome Welcome to the 13th Annual National Elite Business Leaders Conference & Awards Gala. We are so excited to have you here with us celebrating diversity, achievement and excellence. We thank you up front; staff, volunteers, presenters, corporate sponsors and partners without whom this would not be possible. And of course, we thank you participants for being bold and courageous. Breaking Barriers: Lean into Inclusion is the Conference theme. We believe it is timely to have a theme focused on what leaders are doing to lean into inclusive behaviors, while simultaneously breaking down barriers.
PAMELA A. MCELVANE CEO & PUBLISHER DIVERSITY MBA MAGAZINE
We love that we can continue to bring new and exciting programming to you every year; while experiencing growth at Diversity MBA. New this year; Diversity MBA introduces Diversity Business Review; a practical thought leadership journal; along with the digital issues reaching across generations. Our learning solutions is powered by Bold nuggets; original learning tools created by Dr. Deborah Ashton, chief psychologist and learning officer. We also acknowledge those champions that have impact on Diversity MBA and the marketplace. This year we bring you UNPLUGGED REAL-TALKPLENARY’S facilitated by corporate and industry experts. We have five (5) concurrent plenaries that include African American, Asian American, Hispanic American, White American and Identity (inclusive of persons with disabilities, veterans and LGBTQ Plus Pronoun). It is our distinct honor to welcome you to a celebration of diversity excellence, unlike any other. This conference and awards gala is a well-established institution of Diversity MBA, and a learning forum that provides critical information and skills development to DR. JAMES E. TAYLOR, better address the unique business needs of our members. “Breaking Barriers: Lean into SENIOR VICE PRESIDENT, Inclusion” has been thoughtfully and strategically curated to offer a host of inspiring CHIEF DIVERSITY & TALENT talent who will provide what we anticipate will be a memorable two day experience. MANAGEMENT OFFICERUPMC What an incredible time to partner with Diversity MBA! My commitment to diversity and inclusion shows up not only as Board Chair for this thriving organization, it resonates with the values of UPMC. For us, diversity is how we achieve our mission and grow our business. It is not possible for us to improve the health status of the communities we serve without knowing and supporting the unique diversity within each. In some industries, there are only vague connections between diversity and the core work of the organization. Not with us. Transformation is an urgent industry requirement, and cultural competency is fundamental to our transformation. At UPMC, our employees are constantly assessing the direct link between culture, workforce productivity, community engagement, and health care outcomes to inform care delivery practices. I sincerely appreciate this opportunity to serve as your Chair; it is a high honor. May this experience enhance your cultural knowledge and connect you with some of our nation’s most innovative and inspiring minds. Pamela A. McElvane, MBA MA James Taylor, PhD. Diversity MBA UPMC

Greetings! As Governor of the State of Illinois, I am pleased to welcome everyone gathered for the Diversity MBA 13th Annual Elite Business Leaders Conference and Awards Gala. From my own experiences, I know that having more perspectives at the table consistently leads to better outcomes. That’s why I’m proud to have built the most diverse administration in state history– and that diversity helped lead to us to a similarly historic legislative session. In business, diversity in leadership leads to reduced turnover, increased growth, and improved market share. The distinguished organizations and corporate leaders you’ve gathered here have demonstrated the power of inclusion for the state of Illinois and across the nation. Your persistence and drive to raise the bar has resulted in better business, and in turn, a better business community. On behalf of the people of Illinois, I offer my best wishes for an enjoyable and productive conference and for continued success in your future endeavors.
Sincerely,
