SPLITING TOWERS Defying the motionless characteristics of architecture by exploring movement as an aesthetic element; almost as an ornament that will dictate the overall ethos of the building. The only purpose of the movement is to delight with the spatial effects it creates, without carrying any technical purpose that would turn the building into a transformative architecture, one that goes from one building type to another. In order to keep control of the movement for it not to fall into a transformation, the movement was design to reach infinite possibilities within a delimited space. The movement comes from two massive solids fragmented, shattered into pieces but the instance where they haven’t split from the whole is frozen in time and manipulated as for it to shatter over and over again in different directions but never braking apart. And as this two massive pieces fragment over and over they’re delicate transparent interior is reveal. These two masses are an alternative proposition for The Broad, art museum in los Angeles California design by Diller Scofidio + Renfro. One mass is the permanent gallery and the other is a temporary gallery. Both towers will dance, sometimes together, sometimes alone. Certain moments in the day the buildings will slightly touch one face with the other freezing all dancing in order to exchange inhabitants. This happens in top of a static volume that carries the scars of motion, split by a transparent center line of high structure glass that allows for the spectacle to be seeing from below.
