WORKBOOK WINTER 2018/2019

PURE SKIING

We can not hide that the Sogndal valley has strongly shaped our brand since day one. The valley has all kinds of skiing throughout the season, starting in early October with skitouring on the glaciers, and ending during summer in north-faced couloirs. When winter hits, it hits hard with some of the largest amounts of snow in Europe. Low visibility combined with deep snow is a recipe for enjoying some of the best forest skiing around. Steep mountainsides with pillows and perfectly spaced trees is where our brand was born. Torgeir and Tore wanted the perfect tool for this type of skiing. After various prototypes over several years they ended up with the original Togga that was an instant hit with the freeride crowd. As the season progresses we shred the playful terrain of the powderfilled resorts. Much of this is done in the evenings with the help of powerful headlamps. Skis that can handle hard charging while staying playful and fun were a priority. We thus created the Rakkar and it’s big brother Tunnelvisjon: skis perfectly adapted to allround resort and backcountry skiing. Touring is often the base of our skiing since it allows for access to the best riding and the best snow. We do it throughout the whole season but much more when the sun stays up longer in late spring. All of our skis are work well for touring, however we wanted some really light skis that still were good on the way down. This is where our Hurrungane and Tylderingen models come from. A freeride ski DNA in a very light package, perfect for late season shredding. We really do strive to create the best tools for the whole mountain, and we take the inspiration from our fantastic surroundings. The inspiration is also to be seen in the graphics of our skis. There we tell the story of our skiing, living and mountains. We always keep developing our products, pushing our skiing and creating our story. Please do join us on our path forwards! SGNskis

NEW

TOURING Ski touring is at the core of what we do in Sogndal and is the way to find the best riding and the most spectacular runs. Our touring skis are light and well-tuned for a good ascent. They can handle proper riding in powder, slush, crust, and all other conditions you might meet. Your decision is easy, slightly wider for deeper days or slightly narrower for those spring rides. Either way you can count on getting the most out of your days on the mountain. TYLDERINGEN

NEW

ALL MOUNTAIN Are you not sure whether you're going to jump in the park, carve some turns on the corduroy or ride your favorite powder pillow run? Well, first of all, those are all really good options and you are a bit spoiled if that is what you are choosing between. Rakkar has proved to be both a customer and team rider favorite for all kinds of riding. New this year is the slightly narrower Frikar.

FRIKAR

POWDER Powder skiing is what we'd all rather do, and we have created the best tools for that purpose. The Sogndal valley is known for its abundant snowfall and high quality snow. It is for these conditions that the Togga Carbon and urRakkar was created, so that we could slide, jump and play in the deepest of snow. Either you are seaking deep snow on touring missions or easy access resort skiing, look no further! TOGGA CARBON

BIG MOUNTAIN The big mountain can be a fantastic playground, with thrills (and some spills) behind every cornice, peak and drop. Bring the right skis so that you get the most out of the mountainside. Tunnelvisjon is the ski of freeride legend Asbjørn Eggebø Næss. It is the ski you need to handle the challenging conditions of the high mountains while still being playful enough for you to get the most out of the terrain.

GRAPHICS BY STINE LILLOE-OLSEN Along the border of the biggest glacier in Norway the remote Jostedalen Valley winds deep into the mountains. When the Black Death ravaged the land, many of the families in Sogn moved far into this valley to hide from the plague. Despite closing of the entire valley from the rest of the word there was only one sole survivor, a young girl. Covered in feathers and shy like a wild animal, she was called the “Jostedalen Grouse”.

TYLDERINGEN DEVELOPED BY SELECTED MOUNTAINGUIDES For the days where the snow is firmer and you are planning to go for a longer tour we have created Tylderingen. With low weight, and a shape set up for touring it is a great companion for when you want to go far and fast. When you point the tips down the hill you will enjoy the low rocker in tip and tail as well as the full wood-core, making this ski go like a freeride ski. 162cm TIP: 112 mm WAIST: 79 mm TAIL: 97 mm

GRAPHICS BY STINE LILLOE-OLSEN Norwegian ski touring is deeply rooted in our culture, and was a main mean of transportation in the past. Today, it is still used for transportation, but who says you can't enjoy it as well? Tylderingen was designed for the longest tours, but can still match your standards for the way down the mountain as well. The design has elements from a local legend around the mountain Tylderingen. It tells the story on how a woman was taken by the "Huldri". They were tailed creatures who lived in the mountains, and she was to be wedded with a man of their kind in a church that was a large rock. The church can still be seen on the way up to Tylderingen.

Nature's true power is to always give you some kind of reward, every time you get out into the elements.

TOGGA CARBON

This is our allmountain workhorse ready to give any skier a good time regardless of the conditions. When we built the RAKKAR we had one goal in mind – to give all skiers fantastic days out – and we think we succeeded! The RAKKAR is constructed for ripping the corduroy, going full speed at your local jump-spot or riding the best day ever in powder. A 107mm waist, traditional camber, responsive bamboo/poplar-core and generous rocker and taper in tip and tail make this ski our most versatile plank ever. 165cm 175cm 185cm TIP: 126 mm TIP: 129 mm TIP: 132 mm WAIST: 103 mm WAIST: 105 mm WAIST: 107 mm TAIL: 121 mm TAIL: 124 mm TAIL: 127 mm WEIGHT: 1980g @ 185cm

GRAPHICS BY RIKKE WESTVIG The inspiration for RAKKAR is drawn from those dark, almostmagical winter nights when the snow absorbs every sound and covers every rock and root under a heavy silver blanket. Cutting through the darkness, sharp white lights from several headlamps, followed by silver mist and big smiles. Silence, silver, snow. Everyone loves nightskiing in Sogn!

TUNNELVISJON DEVELOPED BY ASBJØRN EGGEBØ NÆSS When designing his signature model, freeride legend Asbjørn Eggebø Næss set his targets on creating a playful ski that still could handle tunnelvision-inducing high speed riding down the biggest mountains. And he pretty much nailed it. Starting with a bamboo-poplar core for good allround skiing abilities and light weight, we then set up a semi twin-tip shape with low rocker at both ends for the right balance. A 26 meter radius and a bit of taper to get good handling at speed and varied snow, and finally a width of 113mm underfoot got us the recipe that we wanted. We have skied fast, jumped, hiked and generally shredded on this ski. It is probably the most versatile and fun ski for bigger and driven skiers that we have come across. Get your pair and get out on the snow! 187cm TIP: 132 mm WAIST: 113 mm TAIL: 125 mm

GRAPHICS BY RIKKE WESTVIG Fjærlandsfjorden is home of a rare phenomenon, seen few other places on earth. On a few special days each winter, a breathtaking light hits the fjord and a golden light show erupts. Our new Tunnelvisjon is inspired by this golden light and those few fantastic days when the snow and light is almost magical.

TOGGA CARBON Togga carbon is designed for mountain people who care about deep snow. Reverse camber in combination with generous taper in tip and tail makes for an incredibly playful and maneuverable ski. Reducing the relative width of the front end and the tail makes quick turns in the woods much easier. The reverse camber will provide superior flow under all conditions. In order to retain stability in high speed, the ski has a relatively long turning radius and a low height of the front end which contributes to dampening of vibrations. The gradual rise of the front of the ski can be compared with how a speedboat runs in water. We have worked on lowering the weight as much as possible without compromising the skiing properties. Using our experience with the Hurrungane 101 we have built a very light ski that still has great skiability with good dampening characteristics. The result is a fun, fast shredder of a light ski. 176 cm TIP: 132 mm WAIST: 120 mm TAIL: 127 mm

TECHTALK TIP TOURING TIP With a thinner and lighter wood core than our tradition skis it is designed for long days of touring. The shape of the tip will also help reduce drag when skinning up.

FREERIDE TIP A smaller version of the powder tip, reducing the width and length of the taper. With an elliptic rocker design, this tip works at any speed in any type of snow.

POWDER TIP Developed with one thing in mind - powder. A long rocker combined with a long taper makes this tip extremely agile and effortless in deep conditions.

FREESTYLE TIP An allround shape and design spiced with features like butter zone for added playfulness and TPU-damping to reduce vibrations. Any terrain - every day!

UNDERFOOT CAMBER UNDERFOOT A traditional cambered design gives you stability and versatility in any condition. On hardpack a camber design is unmatched.

FLAT UNDERFOOT A flat underfoot design delivers the best of both worlds. Stability in hard conditions, and playful characteristics on soft snow.

NEGATIVE CAMBER UNDERFOOT A negative camber design gives you maneuverability and response in powder like no other ski. Everyone is a great skier with negative camber in deep snow!

TAIL TOURING TAIL Designed to suit all skins, with a customizable large ABS plastic tail. There is a small kick in the tail to reduce drag from you skin-clip while touring.

FREERIDE TAIL Obtaining the feeling of a directional ski, but at the same time able to ski switch. Rockered pintail design reduces drag and loves spinning out of deep snow.

POWDER TAIL The powder tail has a long rocker shape combined with a long taper. This results in a nimble pintail design for effortless skiing in deep powder.

FREESTYLE TAIL The freestyle tail is suitable for allround skiing from piste to deep snow. A twintip design makes it extremely playful and suitable for switch landings.

CORE POPLAR AND BAMBOO Poplar is a lightweight and versatile wood material, while bamboo is a strong and responsive wood. Combined they are a lightweight, responsive and fun core. POPLAR AND BEECH Poplar is a lightweight and versatile wood material, while beech has good strength properties and high abrasion resistance. This combines to a strong and tought core for an all mountain ski. POPLAR AND PAULOWNIA Poplar is a lightweight and versatile wood material, and paulownia is extremely light while maintaining a good structure. Combined they make an extremely lightweight, and fun core.

PAULOWNIA AND CARBON A paulownia core in a carbon chassis. By reducing the amount of wood and adding carbon you get a lightweight ski, while keeping the woodcore properties. PAULOWNIA BAMBOO CARBON A paulownia and bamboo core in a carbon chassis. By using lightweight paulownia and strong and responsive bamboo combined with carbon you get a lightweight ski, with great skiability.
