Whether it’s a young Catholic girl in Nigeria travelling to see her extended Muslim family for Eid al-Adha (I’ll See You in Ijebu, p. 2), a father and daughter bravely working together to protect their home from a tropical storm (Our Nipa Hut, p. 4), or the 4 new additions in our popular, growing Our World series (p. 14), these global stories show us how the values of meaningful connection and family link us together from all corners of the world. From STEM to social-emotional learning, there are elements of our overarching themes of family and community connection in all of our new titles. You’ll be cheering Marley on as they overcome their fear of crowds to attend a Pride parade, and in turn discover community within identity (Marley’s Pride, p. 8). Your heart will race as a young starling narrowly escapes a hawk and learns there is more strength in a flock than in being alone (How Starling Got His Speckles, p. 6). We hope you find your own meaningful connections within these books, and thank you for being part of our community. Happy browsing, Nancy Traversy, CEO & Co-Founder
and the Barefoot Books team

What is biomimicry?
Sometimes being a copy cat is a good thing! We can study plants and animals to see how they work and make inventions that work the same way. That’s called biomimicry. ‘Bio’ means life and ‘mimic’ means copy.
Sneak a peek through cut-outs for hints to the mysteries behind the pages. Then lift the flaps to learn about the inventions inspired by animals!
1. Peek-a-boo! Read the riddle and peek through cut-outs for clues.
2. Guess the riddle! Turn the page
to reveal the answer.

3. Lift the flaps! Learn how it works with simple diagrams and clear explanations.
4. Learn more with the endnotes!
