FOOD SAMSONS SEAFOODS The Fresh Fish People
S
amsons Seafoods at Elizabeth South has recently changed hands, but one thing that will remain is its loud and proud slogan of 'the fresh fish people.' Whether it's fish, oysters, prawns or even crayfish when in season, Samsons Seafoods is a one-stop shop, where quality and affordability go hand-inhand. Ashley Lunn and his wife Brooke are the new proprietors, and are coming on board as a family business with a view of being part of the community. “We have a young family and we see the northern region as a growing family community, especially with Holdens and the RAAF in the area,” Ashley said. “Some of the features of the business includes our crumbed products, and we also fillet on the premises. Everything we sell is sourced fresh.” Originally a butcher, Ashley started delving into fish products and it soon became a passion. He has been working in the wholesale fishing market for almost four years.
“For us, trust is big, and we are confident of our ability to satisfy. I know seafood, and I know it is something most people also love.” No matter the seafood favourites of customers, there is something for everyone at Samsons Seafoods. Look out for crayfish when in season, around December, while Ashley, when quizzed on his personal favourite, said he was partial to a Barramundi!
FAMILY BUSINESS. Ashley and Brooke Lunn from Samsons Seafood, ready to supply the freshest fish available.
Samsons Seafoods has been in the northern area for the past 25 years, and has established a loyal customer base in the community, made up of people who love seafood, and keep coming back. “I'm excited about this industry and working with the community here, because of the many possibilities,” Ashley said. “The business offers variety, just with the customers we deal with, as our business is about them.

Leon has been a chef for 31 years, and has regularly catered for various events in Gawler.
From the busy, hard to get to former location near Willaston Bridge, Leon's Cafe is now in the new and exciting development at Hewett, in the community function centre.

Originally known as 'Bookends Cafe' because it was next door to Gawler Book Shop, Leon's food and beverage was so good, everyone started calling it Leon's Cafe, and the name stuck! A local man with local interests,

our ballooning experience starts an hour and a half before sunrise in the picturesque township of Tanunda in the world famous Barossa Valley. From there our fun, friendly and highly experienced team check the prevailing winds and choose the best launch site for the day. At the launch site, the giant colourful balloon is inflated, then it's up, up and away for an experience of a lifetime. You then drift with the wind for approx. an hour, which gives you plenty of time to take in the sights and sounds and just enjoy the sense of freedom. On landing, the support vehicle arrives, the balloon is packed away, then it’s time to head off and pop some corks of the local bubbly and enjoy a selection of fine Barossa food and good ol fashioned home cooking. After breakfast everyone is officially certified a "Balloonatic" with your own flight certificate. In total the whole experience takes about 5 hours. Balloon Adventures has been a family owned and operated business 26 years. We have flown tens of thousands of people in that time. We are an accredited hot air ballooning company approved through the Civil Aviation Safety Authority. Our team is highly experienced, with your safety and enjoyment as our primary concern. We are very proud of the service we offer, professional with family values, all in the same tradition that made the Barossa so famous.

“You are very good at your job…obviously the flying is a given that you are good at, but you also have the ability to make getting up so early worthwhile before people leave the ground, and the mundane and not so exciting tasks/instructions seem not so mundane! So thank you for your sense of humour and fun, it certainly adds to the adventure”

ethany Wines is a small, family owned winery located on the foothills of the Barossa Ranges. The Schrapel family planted their first vineyard in 1852. More than a century later in 1981, fifth generation descendants, brothers Geoff and Robert Schrapel, established Bethany Wines high in the Barossa Ranges overlooking the family’s 38 hectares of vineyards and the historic village of Bethany.

Geoff & Robert’s philosophy is to produce exceptional wines that show the true flavours of their vineyards and that are a natural reflection of the unique microclimate of the Barossa Ranges. They make a range of finely crafted white and red wines including Riesling, Semillon and Chardonnay, Grenache, Cabernet, and the flagship, the GR Reserve Shiraz. In its 30 year history Bethany Wines has been awarded over 650 medals. In 2012 it has received accolades across the range, including gold medals for the 2010 Bethany Semillon, the 2006 Bethany LE Shiraz and the 2005 Bethany GR10 Reserve Shiraz.

FOOD INDULGENCE
S
eppeltsfield is not only famous for its wines, there is no mistaking that food plays an important part in the whole experience. Earlier this year, resident chef Owen Andrews resurrected a 'village' tradition of on-site baking, which included gourmet Barossa beef pies, among a range of homemade fares for the winery cellar door café, as well as for the Seppeltsfield function menus. Other delicious items in the café include 'soup of the day', served with crusty croûtons; artisans platters, featuring local meats, cheeses, olives and pickles;
or perhaps some homemade scones with local jam or honey and Jersey cream. There are also plenty of hot or cold beverages – anyone for coffee or a milkshake? There is a huge range of local produce, which can be matched to wine, including chocolates – this goes with that! Why not take a wine tour (11.30am and 3.30pm, seven days a week), and take the time to combine it with an appetising lunch? DELECTABLE DELIGHTS. Seppeltsfield is famous for more than just wine.
WINE DRINK TO GOOD HEALTH
W
hile fortified wines are synonymous with Seppeltsfield, two years ago an old tradition was revived when the gravity feed cellar was recommissioned for the 2010 vintage. The A grade premium table red wines have helped establish further variety, which saw Seppeltsfield win the Hugo Gramp Memorial Trophy for the 2011 Elm Walk Eden Valley Riesling and the Riedel Trophy for an innovative 2010 Grenache Shiraz Touriga blend.
Earlier this year, senior wine maker Fiona Donald took out the 'Barons of Barossa' winemaker of the year. Seppeltsfield remains home to a long and illustrious fortified winemaking tradition, dating back to 1851. A feature is its centenary Para Vintage Tawny tastings, where everyone over the age of 18 can experience a 'drop' from their year of birth. They even have an on-site cooper
Andrew Young, and a unique 'treasure' can be purchased and taken home – a small oak wine barrel, which can help with aging that favorite port.
ART STIMULATING ANOTHER SENSE
W
hile the food and wine at Seppeltsfield will satisfy the taste buds, there are also plenty of stunning visuals to take one's breath away, including in the lower section of the tasting area, where local artists are often featured.
Through its ArtSpace @ Seppeltsfield display area, South Australian Living Artists (SALA) events have been a regular feature. Starting on August 3, Seppeltsfield will again play a part in the SALA festival, as the first stop in the “degustation Barossa Art and Wine Trail”, until August 26.
