Community Ideas (Blue Cards) •

Full day kindergarten at elementary schools

Cafeteria space in all schools to provide healthy, hot meals

School facilities that encourage healthy behaviors by providing outdoor space, gardens, and indoor/outdoor activity spaces

Updated HVAC in all buildings

Ample natural light and thoughtful use of artificial lighting

Modern security features in all schools

Improve traffic flow, pedestrian safety, and parking (including lights)

A fine arts/performing arts center

Increased storage in most facilities

Ensuring that facilities, furniture, and accompanying student choice are developmentally appropriate for each age level


Community Ideas (Blue Cards) •

Updates to district facilities that reflect a transparent, equitable process and bring all schools into equal alignment

Stakeholders expressed, on varying levels, an interest in environmentally-friendly, sustainable, or LEED certified facilities and features

Stakeholders expressed an interest in STEM learning facilities

Stakeholders expressed an interest in sharing some spaces with the community

Stakeholders expressed an interest in/hope for training for parents, teachers, and community members on how to best use proposed facilities

A majority of stakeholders liked the open, flexible learning environments, but had two concerns to be addressed through careful design and adjacencies: –

Appropriate acoustics for a supportive learning environment

Providing the necessary spaces for introverted/focused work, not just group/collaboration work


Community Ideas (Blue Cards) Performing Arts Facilities •

6 comments requested a performing/fine arts facility at the middle school level

1 comments requested a performing/fine arts facility at the high school level

Proposed Barrington Community School •

Across all sites, 9 comments were specifically in support of a Barrington Community School facility

One comment expressed concern that a Community School would inadvertently segregate students

North Barrington (Blue Cards) • Proposed changes at Miller Road were received positively • Spaces for group work and collaboration • Preserving a small class or cohort size was desired • Writable walls and other surfaces were appealing


BHS (Blue Cards) • Some comments requested an ice rink • Hart Road was specifically addressed as an area to improve traffic flow • Writable walls and other surfaces were appealing • Some comments emphasized academic priorities above specialized athletic or performance spaces


Station MS (Blue Cards) • Most comments requested to prioritize removing the mobile units • Some comments supported the idea of building a new school • Some comments emphasized academic priorities above specialized athletic or performance spaces


Prairie MS (Blue Cards) • Some comments requested an ice rink • One comment requested enhancing/retaining language arts spaces • Having the stage in the cafeteria was not a desirable solution; being able to use both simultaneously was desired


Hough (Blue Cards) •

Many respondents indicated a preference for the Level 3 scenario, while one preferred Level 5

Some comments requested use of low- or no-VOC products

Many comments responded positively to the suggestions for a 2nd floor/play roof

A sensory engagement room was requested


Arnett C. Lines (Blue Cards) •

Many respondents specifically requested flexible, active seating solutions to reduce student distraction/improve healthy movement

A sensory engagement room was requested

Several comments requested a design that was thoughtful towards the needs of special education and high-needs behaviors, including spaces for interventions

Several comments requested enhancing/retaining language arts spaces

Some comments requested an updated library space


Roslyn Road (Blue Cards) •

Some comments requested ensuring that, in addition to technology-supported spaces, there are spaces for tech-free work and learning

A sensory engagement room was requested

Two comments requested building a new school

One comment specifically requested ensuring materials used in a potential turf field are safe for students

Many respondents specifically requested flexible, active seating solutions to reduce student distraction/improve healthy movement


Grove (Blue Cards) •

Most comments indicated that additional space is a high priority

Sunny Hill/Woodland (Blue Cards) •

The majority comments indicated a preference for removing Woodland and rebuilding Sunny Hill either on the old Woodland site, or in place

Several comments indicated a desire to keep or build the school “in our community,” to ensure continued access for all

Some comments requested moving the maintenance facility, so it is not adjacent to a school building

One comment indicated a preference for the Level 4 scenario


ELC (Blue Cards) • Comments indicated that the walkway from Prairie to the Early Learning Center could be improved

• Comments indicated that wayfinding signage for drivers needs to be improved • Comments indicated that the area where dumpsters are currently stored is inappropriately shielded/located
