Friends of the Fields ENHANCEMENT PROJECTS Funding Proposal
www.bhshorseshoeclub.org
Friends of the Fields ENHANCEMENT PROJECTS Overview The Friends of the Fields Committee (FOTF), was formed in 2021 for the purpose of raising additional funds for specific upgrades to the new athletic facilities on the campus of Barrington High School and the district owned Fields of Dreams complex located just north of BHS. While the March 17, 2020 referendum funding will accomplish numerous repairs, renovations and improvements to our current fields and facilities as outlined below, Friends of the Fields decided to pursue the task of raising private funds to pay for specific upgrades above and beyond what was included in the referendum projects. The additional upgrades to the Fields of Dreams complex and Varsity Baseball stadium will meet the needs of both the baseball and softball programs by providing a state-of-the-art experience for players at every level of the game from youth players through varsity high school athletes. Further, the enhancement projects will attract high-level programs and tournaments now and into the future by elevating both the player and spectator experience at these fields with facility attributes that incorporate the latest features seen at modern community and high school ballparks. The purpose of this proposal is to provide information to support an informed decision to pledge funds towards proposed upgrades not included in the successful March 17, 2020 referendum. The enhancement projects will support upgrades to our high school athletic facilities, as well as the Fields of Dreams complex.
These upgrades include: Fields of Dreams Items
High School Campus Items
Varsity Softball bleacher expansion
Bronco Way athletic corridor entry archway
Varsity Softball scoreboard upgrade
Bronco Way athletic corridor sun shades
Varsity Softball sun shades
Varsity Baseball entry archway
Field of Dreams entry archway
Varsity Baseball seating/patio expansion
Fields of Dreams scoreboard upgrades
Varsity Baseball outfield lighting
Fields of Dreams sun shades
Varsity Baseball scoreboard upgrade
Fields of Dreams batting cages
Varsity Baseball sun shades
FOTF will collect donations for disbursement to Barrington Community Unit School District 220 for the sole and exclusive use of supplementing the enhancement projects.
Background
Friends of the Fields (FOTF) is a separate committee of the Barrington High School Horseshoe Club, an Illinois not-for-profit corporation, and an approved Charitable Organization under section 501(c)(3) of the Internal Revenue Code. The Horseshoe Club supports all BHS co-curricular activities. The Fields of Dreams (FOD) baseball and softball complex started operations in 1991. The March 17, 2020 referendum will provide funding to address several necessary renovations to the Fields of Dreams complex, which is now more than 30 years old. Examples of items that will be completed by the referendum include: address the infield and grass surfaces of the three community fields, install a synthetic turf field for the Varsity Softball field, replace backstop and dugout fencing, replace lighting, provide new concrete and asphalt surfaces, renovate the main concession building, renovate the press box, and expand the storage building.
The current Varsity Baseball bleachers and press box opened in the spring of 1990. While the current field and stands have served our high school baseball program well for a number of years, many of the facilities and equipment are outdated and require replacement. Examples of items that will be completed by the referendum include: new press box, replace existing bleachers, install infield synthetic turf, replace fencing, and install a batter’s eye.

Enhancement Projects FIELDS OF DREAMS ENTRY Each year the Fields of Dreams (FOD) complex welcomes thousands of families from Barrington and surrounding communities throughout the spring, summer and fall months. In addition to hosting youth baseball and softball games and tournaments during the weekdays and weekends, FOD welcomes high school softball teams from throughout the state of Illinois, as well as local College/University programs like DePaul and Loyola. The Illinois High School Association consistently selects the facility to host regional and sectional state series softball games. Last year the high school super sectional game had more than 900 spectators. Exclusive Single Panel Advertising on the Fields of Dreams Archway is available.

FIELDS OF DREAMS SCOREBOARDS The March 17, 2020 Referendum will provide a basic replacement scoreboard for the lower level high school softball teams/community fields at the Fields of Dreams complex. The upgraded scoreboards would be larger in overall size (height and width) making it easier to read by spectators. In addition, the upgraded scoreboard would include additional features beyond the total game score for Home and Guest teams, by providing additional game information such as the current count (balls/strikes) and runs earned per inning. Field Naming Rights and Advertising Panels are available for all three fields.

SOFTBALL FULL BOWL BLEACHER SEATS The March 17, 2020 Referendum will address the Varsity Softball player experience by completely replacing the existing grass field with a full (infield and outfield) synthetic turf surface, as well as installing new fencing, lighting, and backstops; however, the existing bleachers will remain. A full bleacher bowl system has been designed that would extend completely around home plate from the home to the visitor dugout. This upgraded bleacher system would add approximately 400 additional seats for spectators at the Varsity Softball field. Windscreen Advertising along the back of the bleacher bowl is available.

Enhancement Projects VARSITY SOFTBALL SUNSHADES One of the comments that has been mentioned by parents and community members over the past several years is the lack of trees, structures, canopies, etc. at the Fields of Dreams complex to provide shelter for spectators from the sun and rain. We have identified a shade system that can be installed over the bleachers and seating areas at the Fields of Dreams complex, the Varsity Baseball Field, and the Bronco Way athletic fields. The shade material will block up to 98% of harmful UV rays while also providing cover during rain and inclement weather. Advertising and donor recognition plaques are available.

BATTING CAGE The March 17, 2020 Referendum will address aging facilities and equipment, and provide new or renovated field surfaces. One upgrade that was discussed during the Build 220 design phase but was not identified in the master facility plan developed during Referendum planning was the concept of a covered batting cage area where teams could warm up prior to a game or work on specific skills such as hitting and pitching. A new covered batting cage area would replace the existing cages on the stone filled pad located at the Fields of Dreams complex. Advertising Panels are available.

The new pathway will provide access to these athletic facilities and the Fields of Dreams complex. The March 17, 2020 Referendum will provide large new porticos (covered entry points) around Barrington High School. These porticos will visually highlight the main entrances to BHS and assist with students, parents and visitors to easily identify entry points and wayfinding around the campus. The archway at the entrance of the new Bronco Way will be constructed using the same design and materials as the large porticos placed around the high school. These eye-catching archways will have an Exclusive Advertising Panel available.
