In September 1949 it opened at its current location on West Main Street, intended for 500 students. As the community has grown, several additions have been added to the school. Upon entering the front of the building, visitors will notice the school’s Future President’s Exhibit, which features photos of President John F. ENGAGE. EXPLORE. EMPOWER. Prairie Campus embodies the philosophy of these three words. Prairie is a place where all students engage in their learning and explore all of the educational opportunities available. At Prairie, students will be empowered to be successful. Students can do anything here and our staff will support our students the entire way.

School History Barrington Middle School-Prairie Campus is one of two middle schools in the Barrington 220 School District. Prairie Campus opened in 1992 along the southern border of Barrington. When it came to naming the school, many community members commented on how the plot of land looked like a savannah. Savannah almost became the building’s given name, until a board member noted the land was actually a prairie. The halls, walls and staff have embraced learners for nearly 30 years and today Prairie Campus is known for its excellence in education, innovative programs and supportive community.

North Barrington is committed to providing our students with an educational experience focused on future innovation while still honoring our rich history. Our staff is dedicated to the strong relationships we have built together with our school community. By setting high expectations for learning both in the area of academics and social emotional success, students are inspired to grow and be proud of being a part of a school that is safe, nurturing, and fun!

School History North Barrington Elementary is one of eight elementary schools in the Barrington 220 School District, serving grades K-5. The original North Barrington Elementary School opened in 1946, consolidating five one-room schoolhouses in the area. At the time of the school’s dedication, it was heralded as a “school for the motor age” because of special design features that accommodated students arriving by car and bus. Fifty years later, voters approved a referendum to rebuild North Barrington at the same site. The new NBS opened to students in 1998.

Sunny Hill Elementary is one of eight elementary schools in the Barrington 220 School District, serving grades K-5. The school opened in 1954 as a K-8 school. At that time, the building sat on a hill surrounded by farms to the north, east and south. It is said Sunny Hill received its name from a family who was walking up the hill to school on a sunny day. Today, Sunny Hill serves as a hub in the Carpentersville community. Barrington 220’s Bilingual Parents Advisory Council (BPAC) holds its monthly meetings and events at Sunny Hill. It is also a club site for the Boys and Girls Club of Dundee Township.

The Early Learning Center believes in a nurturing, safe and respectful learning environment to support our youngest learners. We enrich, engage, encourage, nurture and treasure each child in our school.

School History

The Barrington Early Learning Center serves at-risk preschool students in the Barrington 220 School District, in addition to kindergarten students enrolled in the district’s Spanish Dual Language program. When the original Early Learning Center opened in 1986, it was located at the former Woodland Elementary School in Carpentersville. The current state of the art ELC building opened in Barrington in 2010, sharing a campus with BMS-Prairie. This proximity allows for a unique partnership between the two schools, in which the ELC benefits from service projects by BMS-Prairie students.
