Troy came to school in his new white trainers.

There was a school rule that kids must wear black shoes in school.

Troy didn’t care. His new trainers were the best.

“I asked my mum for new trainers too,” Sam told Jamie. “But she said they cost too much.”

“Troy’s dad must be minted,” Jamie said. “He always has new stuff.”

At break, Sam and Jamie went outside to eat their sandwiches.

“What have you got?” Sam asked Jamie.

“Ham,” Jamie said.

“I’ve got cheese and salad,” Sam told him.

Just then Troy came past with some of his mates.

“We’re going to the chippie,” he said. “Are you coming?”

“No thanks,” Sam said. “We’ve got sandwiches.”

“You mean you’ve got no money!” Troy said. He laughed as he and his mates walked off.

“I don’t like him,” Sam said. “He thinks he’s IT because his dad is minted.”

School ended at 3.30 p.m. and Troy went home.

His mum was in the garden.

“Dad’s in the kitchen,” she said. “He’s got a surprise for you.”

6

Troy hoped that Dad had got him the new PlayStation game he had asked for.
