National Geographic has been documenting wildlife and nature for over 100 years, and in the last 50 or so of those years they have been making some of the most respected documentaries in the world, covering everything from wildlife to space to trees and everything in between. There are hundreds of videos and DVDs floating around of Nat Geo films, but if you have limited time, which ones should you watch? This article will focus specifically on wildlife and nature documentaries from National Geographic. They also make films about cultural topics, science, history and other subjects of interest. 1. Eye of the Leopard This is a documentary commissioned by National Geographic and filmed by Dereck and Beverely Joubert, who are excellent African film makers. They follow one leopard in this documentary and reveal parts of her life that had never before been seen on camera. The footage is extraordinary, and you will laugh, cry, be amazed and in awe at everything this leopard gets up to. This is a documentary to add to your collection so you can watch it over and over again. 2. Amazing Planet Released in 2007, this film focuses on how amazing features of the Earth were formed. NASA and the US Geological Survey contributed scientific information to make this documentary entirely accurate and realistic. Using CGI, you get a 4D view of planet Earth so you can learn how the continents formed and how they move, what happens when there's an ice age, how mountains form and much more. 3. Africa's Wildlife Collection This is a box set of some of the first documentaries Nat Geo filmed in Africa. Most of these can not be found anywhere else. You get over 600 hours of viewing pleasure, with topics covered including rhino poaching, zebras, gorillas and much more. Africa lovers will rejoice in the spectacular viewing angles, beautiful background music and some of the best wildlife encounters ever caught on film. These are just three of the many National Geographic documentaries you will want to watch if you are interested in everything fascinating to do with life on earth.
