ďƒ&#x;------------------------------------------------------ďƒ Lucy Lang has a problem she is thirty years old, unhappy with her job, unhappy with her life in general, and has very few friends and no special someone. She leads a rather lonely unfulfilling existence that came to be as a result of an absentee mother, a memory of a father figure and a distant sister. Lucy also has another problem she is estranged from herself. Lucy doesn't really know who she is as a person. The internal strife that Lucy has going on in her life is not unusual; there are many of us that are unhappy with our current station in life and this makes Lucy an easily relatable character. The story makes the statement that unless you know yourself, you will never be happy with your life and you will not know what makes you happy or how to be happy. What really matters it is not the way that we go about finding ourselves but that we do find ourselves eventually so that we may lead a rich and fulfilling life; In Search of Lucy exemplifies this. This book takes you on Lucy's emotional ride. The reader is made privy to Lucy Lang's life and what a life it turns out to be. The story is focused on how Lucy eventually finds herself by way of a life saving gesture for her sister. I thoroughly enjoyed this story. I found the characters to be realistic and intriguing. The conversation between characters was natural and insightful. The author created likeable characters that make the reader interested in what happens to them next. Ms. Fairchild's use of descriptive language works well, as I read the vividness of each scene stood out. I found myself really wanting to know what would happen to Lucy by the end of the story; which road would she take to find herself or would she ever find herself, would Lucy ever be happy and fulfilled? Could Lucy let go of her resentments and fears allowing her to once again feel like herself? The reader will not be disappointed by the ending of the story, as a matter of fact I found myself wanting more. I highly recommend this book as a really good read.
