Regular readers of the USA Today Life section have come to appreciate the high quality work of Reporter Nanci Hellmich. She delivers premium pieces on weight loss, diet, nutrition and exercise. The current program is about losing 10 Pounds in 10 Weeks and she takes readers on the challenge. This is the 7th time that USA Today has ran this challenge. They offer a simple eating plan and beginner exercises for those just getting started - such as walking. There are also extras about menu options, eating right videos and tips from high profile dietitians included. The Pick Your Plan choices are excellent. They range from Levels 1 & 2 (beginner), Levels 3 & 4 (intermediate), Levels 5,6 and 7 (advanced). While the Level 1 Beginner may see a 10 minute walk as a daily challenge, the Level 7 Advanced would see regular walks of 30 minutes to over 1 hour. There is a neat opportunity included that involves taking a quiz to determine your level according to their metrics. Those questions include multiple choice options on items such as: how active you are on a typical day, how much (conscious) exercise that you get daily, your current fitness level and a question about your objectives and goals. The column allows you to calculate your score and then prescribes a starter program. 10 pounds over 10 weeks is not easy and I like that it seems to be a steady and non-absurd weight loss goal. I could easily imagine people joining in and staying on their weight loss journey well past the 10 pounds in 10 weeks. The Challenge also partnered with fitness expert Mark Fenton so that the quiz and program could be adapted from his recent book: The Complete Guide for Walking for Health, Weight Loss and Fitness". According to Mark, walking "should be at the core of everyone's active lifestyle". So where you do fall on your fitness journey? Do you get attracted by stories like these and embrace them as your next big opportunity to lose weight? You should. These pieces are written for the masses and there is no reason why you cannot fulfill your dreams while embracing a program that can work for thousands. As the articles begs: "Are you on the move?"
