Summer of 2009 The rebirth of the Prision Chappel in Balassagyarmat is well on its way. Resurection, the once closed off space deep within the structure of this Prision has been reopend and is now getting its new face. The Prision has been built between the year 1842 till 45, acording to the panoptic design of Jeremy Bentham, The chapel, lying right at the heart of the building was taken out of it’s function in 1949 under an act that seperated the church form the state. The dome had been sealed off and the remaining space was used as a locking room, storage space and finally as a library. The walls have been worked back to the bricks and now the new layers are placed. Ready to recive the brand new fresco . Both civilians and its own prisioners are working passionatly to make it happen. To give the chappel a new existence. For a month and a half I had a chance to be a part of this.
