SAILING YOGA RETREAT Malta, Gozo, and Comino 8-14 July and 5-11 August, 2017 Hosted By:
Overview Even the seasoned yoga retreat attendee will be impressed by the scope of this yoga retreat. Summer in Malta is stunning: bright blue waters painting the smooth limestone coastline of Malta and it's sister islands, Gozo and Comino. The islands are small enough to circumnavigate. Many parts of their coastline are accessible only by boat. We'll explore these sanctuaries between morning yoga practices and days spent sightseeing, sailing, and stargazing. Your guides are Ritianne Richardson and Emily Stewart, two yogis with very different practices and a shared love of the Maltese islands, fitness, and learning!
Bongu! After being greeted at the airport by Emily or Ritianne, your instructors and hosts, you'll join other attendees over a glass of bubbly and chocolatecovered strawberries on our Bavaria 50 Cruiser. Receive a tour of the boat, then unpack your Welcome Gift containing a yoga mat, towel, water bottle, and local treats. That first evening we'll enjoy an inaugural yoga session, setting our intent for the rereat, and dinner in Malta's beautiful waterway district of Birgu.
Typical Schedule The most important thing to remember about the retreat schedule is that it's dictated by Mother Nature: we'll sail when the wind and water are right! Here's what you can expect. Your Instructors Maltanative Ritianne is the owner and operator of Hot Yoga Malta, Malta’s own boutique Hot Yoga studio. Her training in both Hot Yoga and traditional Ashtanga Yoga in India gives her not only a solid foundation as a teacher, but a varied and in depth understanding of both traditional and modern yoga. Her fusion style now is both energizing and focused. Her cues keep you on your toes while sequencing is creative and unique. Being a local Ritianne will use her local knowledge and contacts to get us the best food, the best secret beach spots, and the best deals with everything from local wines to shopping to parking spots and more.
If there's one thing Emily loves, it's finding the most creative outdoor spaces to connect our energy with that of the Earth! Emily is adept at using different structures, surfaces, and poses to get downanddirty in any outdoor yoga space. She spends all year scouting the perfect locations for the Sailing + Yoga Retreat. When not scouting, Emily is founder of BASEDtraveler Bodies, a yoga¬meets¬journalism website that connects yoga and fitness practitioners around the world. Emily studied yoga for five months at the Sivananda Vedanta Ashram in Maduria, India, and at their rural retreat house in Tamil Nadu. She then certified with the National Academy of Sports Medicine in the USA. Emily's yoga might be called power¬vinyasa¬flow. Her creative, comical, and challenging classes combine the best of stretching and strengthening. Set to smart tunes, they're mindfully mindless!
Your Yoga
With their vast knowledge in different yoga and Pilates traditions, styles, and practices, our classes use elements of Vinyasa, Hatha, Power, Forrest, and a Pilates.
Emily and Ritianne are strong believers that no two bodies are alike, so postures will be adjusted depending on body types, experience levels, and physical limitations. We love to provide basic and progressive variations! Our goal is to leave you feeling energized. We want to foster a greater connection between you and the Earth. As only eight yogis maximum can attend the retreat, each yoga class will be approached as a private, smallgroup session. Whether you have been practicing for years or attempting it for the first time, each class invites you to find your own depth of practice, your holistic "best." That's why we focus on your mindbody connection, offering cues and giggles that bring you to a happier, stronger space.
Why Malta? The Maltese arhcipelgo is 93 km south of Siciliy and 288 km north of Africa, making it virtually at the center of the Meditterean. So... It's packed with history! During your trip you'll moor off such famed historical sites at 450 yearold Valletta; Mdina, a pedestrianonly, cool baroque treasure trove; and southern cities where Goddess worship ruins dot the landscape. There's a reason Malta greets thousands of scuba divers, trekkers, and marine enthusiasts a year. Local schools of tuna swim through turquoise diving pools like St. Peter's Pool. The cliffs of the Blue Grotto protect locals birds in their caverns. Red sand hides tiny crabs on barelythere beaches, crowned with Knights' towers.
