ost of the time eating is considered a basic need, but it can just as well be the basis of a highly sensual experience and joie de vivre: your eyes caress a gourmet dish, you hear the sound of fine wine stylishly poured into a glass, or the scent of exotic spices seducing your awareness to wander off into faraway places. The appropriate chair relaxes your body and soul and turns the experience into pure pleasure. Now your senses can take it all in.
INSOLITO ITALIAN RESTAURANT / Alona Eliasi Interior Design www.alonaeliasi.com / Moscow / 2013 / If you had to introduce yourself to a stranger, what would you say? If I had to present myself, I would say that creating is my way of life. The truth is I can‘t separate or isolate my occupation of interior design from my life, for me it‘s like living my own dream coming true. How are you connected to Basic Collection? What Basic Collection means to you? My cooperation with Basic Company lasts for many years. Working with them gives me the ability to expend my limits in design and transform any standard product into a work of art. In fact, there are no boundaries… I have started working with Basic Collection when I was looking for unique items for projects abroad that I could not find at other companies. Basic Collection gave me the answers and the verity of items I wanted. The Insolito Italian Restaurant must have been a very exciting project to work on. Please tell a bit more about this particular project of yours. Insolito is one of the restaurants I have designed in Moscow which is one branch in a chain of Italian restaurants and from other restaurants I have designed in Moscow. When I was approached by the client, I realized this restaurant should present a different approach and a different message than other restaurants in Moscow and different from other Italian restaurants. The idea was to create a sense of intimacy as if the customer is not in an official restaurants, but in an Italian home in their living room. All the production are upfront and all the products are visible. Selecting furniture and fabrics was different and costumed to demonstrate the soft and homey feeling.
What kind of project do you specialise on? For over a decade my office specializes in commercial projects in Israel and around the world and it is one of the leading offices in Israel in its field. The leading principal that guides me through every project is simple- total design. It is reflected by accompanying the client from the very start until the opening night. From the concept stage and primary sketches through every decision that needs to be made concerning the project such as construction site supervision, furniture purchase and fabrics, lighting design and recruitment professional subcontractors etc. all is conducted carefully as we maintain within the budgets so that the outcome is both designed and functional for the opening business. Regarding your approach to design, what is it that you find the most challenging in the process of designing a space? The biggest challenge as a designer is to recreate a different story, different concept and design. I do not force personal views but customize the design all inspired by the client›s needs and from that, each design tells a different story and reflects the clients world. What kind of future collaboration have you been planning with Basic Collection? How do you think the future will be like for you? My future cooperation with Basic Collection company is to keep on creating unique and beautiful items just as we did up until now. I hope and believe my future will continue its current course in creating and designing. As I have mentioned before, for me, it is living a dream coming true.

he right chair makes you feel strong, smart and creative. All of a sudden you accomplish much more – and you like it. The perfect working chair helps you to perform better and be more productive – it inspires your own creative mind. The time of working in standardised, corporate offices has seem to be vanishing away, as employers are realising that it is important to create an environment that not only has very distinctive characteristics, but inspires the employers to present a better performance. Some companies also want to provide extra amenities to their employers, so they will spend more time at work. Office spaces also becoming an important part of company identities.

ir Albert Hotel in Amsterdam is the ideal residence of an aristocrat. The 2.0 version of an aristocrat: a cosmopolitan, free spirit gentleman who feels at ease in every part of the world. Entering the hotel you enter his mansion: at Sir Albert, guests will not be welcomed in a reception but in a cosy study, check in around a big oval table and have breakfast at Izakaya, a restaurant with a „feels like home“ atmosphere. Most important, they can protect their privacy and feel totally independent, reaching their rooms directly through the lift located in front of the entrance door. For BK this project represented the challenge to think ‚out of the hotel box‘ „to set aside terminologies that we would normally use when designing hotels, and bring in a different vocabulary instead.“ The monumental building which hosts the hotel with its interesting background (a former diamond factory) represents another reason of charm and inspiration for BK. The change of function didn’t have to interrupt the dialogue between the building and the environment. The connection with the city life is particularly important at the ground floor, where crossing the entrance, you see on the left the study and on the right the restaurant; independent but connected spaces, both willing to create a relationship with the world outside.
BK idea to lift up the floor creates a visual interaction between inside and outside. This deep architectural intervention, (the windows in the original section were too high), let the guests sit in the study or dining at Izakaya, see outside and most important, be seen. Thus the connection with the outside would be important at any latitude, it was essential for BK in a city like Amsterdam, which is one of the most fascinating aspects according with BK, is the fact that through the big windows of the houses one can share the life of their inhabitants. On the upper floors, the large windows towards the street provide each rooms not only bright day light, but also connect the guests to the lively atmosphere of the street, with its bike traffic. Different typologies of rooms have been designed in order to respond to the different needs of different guests, but all of them with the same relaxed elegance and cosiness which would please Sir Albert for sure. The interiors are a mix of furniture, details, art works which yet convey the idea of being in the residence of a globetrotter: pieces of furniture from Italian manufacturers, like Maxalto, Moroso, Ceccotti, limited edition pieces from different designers. Each and every piece could be picked up by Sir Albert during his travels around the world.

ulgaria Mall is the first upper-class shopping centre of its kind in Bulgaria and it is located in the heart of a noble district of Sofia. It extends over three storeys divided into shopping, dining and entertainment. The interior design arises from a collaboration of Nugget Design and Basic Collection. Basic Collection specializes in commercial furniture of all kinds and in addition manufactures custom furniture according to individual requests. The ample range of projects developed in collaboration with interior designers, hotel and restaurant owners and those who share our passion for design. Bulgaria Mall opened its doors in the end of October 2012. Just 4 months before the opening, Ari Phillips joined the project. He is an interior designer and founder of Nugget Design based in England who had collaborated with Basic Collection before. “We had to work extremely fast in a tight schedule. It was an enormous challenge to implement all concept ideas immediately and to complete all the developments, sketches and all construction project tenders in order to have enough time for manufacturing and installation.” “It was our aim to utilize furniture of high quality, custom-made production and illumination: we wanted to create something special that was desirable and inviting at the

same time, but which had never been seen in a food court before, particularly in this region of Europe.” Basic Collection is famous for the vast selection of furniture, customized production and the quality of its customer service. For Bulgaria Mall, Basic Collection produced various pieces of custom-made furniture like sitting benches in various shapes, bars for the food court, upholstered furniture and the information desk. The entire interior design was created especially for Bulgaria Mall by Ari Phillips. The ingenious design of the cosy sitting area was created to invite shoppers to pause and rest. Led by project manager, the team of Basic Collection worked on the project at full speed. The manufacturing and installation took six weeks, after which a team of twelve people stayed on site for ten days. The result was a unique design, something new and original for the East European region. The labelling was also realized by Basic Collection. The choice of materials was a determining point of the project. All the products are of the best quality and were designed to endure daily use by a large number of people.

ich and warm textures - silk, wood, leather and velvet - and a very welcoming, stylish and laid-back atmosphere describe best the Baltazár, which was recently opened in the Castle Area district of Budapest. It is owned by the Zsidai family, who already has an impressive portfolio of restaurants, including Pest-Buda, Spíler.
What you need to know about the Doboz that it is not a ruin pub, but then of course that depends on how you describe a ruin pub. From the outside it seems to be an ancient apartment house. When you look at the building, you do not think much of it; indeed, it does not look any different from those next to it. You need to go inside to experience the contrast: you will see a courtyard, a tree and an interior that makes you go crazy. As you enter the front door you practically find yourself in a garden, with a huge tree in the middle that is mounted by gigantic ‘King Kong’ statue. Here you can also see the red ‘doboz’, where the dance-floor is located and a very unusual bar. They also have a grill-bar, a house party room and a salon. They all have their own function with creative design and unique atmosphere.
Baltazár is a small, luxurious boutique hotel, a bar, wine bar and grill restaurant under one roof. If we had to compare Baltazár to one of the other restaurants owned by the family, it would definitely be the Spíler that is closest in its style. The main speciality of the kitchen is grill food and the wine bar offers a great selection of Carpathian wines. The place is perfect even just for wining and chatting on a sunny afternoon, as Baltazár has a terrace furnished with stylish outdoor furniture. The overall interior was designed by Tibor Somlai and the artworks have been done by Géza Ipacs; just like in Spíler, it can be noticed that red is a very dominant colour within the space and has been used not only for the upholstery of the benches in the restaurant, but for the bistro tabletops as well. The mix of the rustic wooden doors, the industrial, theatrical lamps and the classic tablebases create an eclectic, but tasteful combination.
