About the photographer – Barbara Gasior She currently works full-time as a photographer and teaches photography at the G32 Photo and Art Gallery in Chicago. Her works have been exhibited at the Polish Museum of America and the International Business Club in Chicago. Barbara’s work focuses mainly on women and women’s issues. Her previous work has focused on women from the Polish Community in partnership with the non-profit, Polish Women in Business. She is currently working on a new body of work, “Polish Women in Chicago,” photographing Polish women who have inspired her with their personalities, achievements and dedication to others in 2012. Each woman that she photographs is fascinating and unique in terms of her looks, her personality and her relationship to others. Barbara seeks to portray each woman from the perspective of photographer, client and friend. Her photographs are not simply portraits. They are images of Polish women in Chicago that capture their charm, their warmth and their beauty. Barbara challenged herself to take on this project because she has the ability to draw forth a model’s best traits and a woman’s charm and beauty while retaining her spirit and personality (or so others maintain). Creating a successful portrait is exceedingly difficult. The very good portrait and the excellent portrait are worlds apart and separated by the photographer’s imagination, artistry and technique. She leaves the final appraisal to her audience. “Polish American Women in Chicago” will be on display at the Thompson Center in Chicago from December 17-19, 2012. Barbara supports many charitable organizations through her photographic work. She spent time volunteering at the Polish Museum of America photographing their archives related to the great musician and composer, Ignacy Paderewski, who resided in the USA. She has also organized a number of art exhibits supporting Polish artists.

About Polish Women In Chicago Project I would like my exhibit to showcase successful women from the state of Illinois and the city of Chicago whose successes are measured by the realization of their goals and aspirations. I will feature portraits of women who lead active and purposeful lives and are role models for other women. The examples they set demonstrate that it is possible to break free of stereotypes and overcome obstacles. A woman’s creativity and ingenuity knows no bounds. These successful women all share one thing in common: they have the ability to think in terms of success and take advantage of their knowledge and talents in order to change the dynamics and directions of their lives. In their spirits, they combine sensitivity, gentleness, kindness, inner strength and strong convictions in their own abilities. I venture to add that they believe in unlimited possibilities.

The women I showcase are all of Polish descent and are role models for other women who desire self-fulfillment. I will photograph at least 30 women; with each woman depicted in 3 photographs .These photographs will express each woman’s personality and attitude regarding her success. Each woman will choose the location that best suits her personality and allows her to express herself. My exhibit will be showcased in one of the most important cultural meeting places in the state of Illinois - the Thompson Center. It is my goal that this exhibit will instill in my audience – in particular, women – the real possibility of achieving self-fulfillment, and inspires them to take initiative and pursue. It is also my hope to broaden the theme of this exhibit next year by showcasing women of various cultures residing in Chicago.
