TAKE DOWN THE HOARDINGS

Proposals from the GIVE US BACK OUR HARBOUR group April 2011

Introduction The GIVE US BACK OUR HARBOUR group seeks the removal of all hoardings and railings enclosing the Greystones Harbour development, except for such safety fencing as would have been included in the completed development. We are seeking this because we believe — with the possible exception of the medical centre — that no construction will take place on this site for many years to come.

Why do we want this? Our opinion is based on the view shared by almost all leading economic commentators. In essence, the following factors:

!  probable stagnation of the Irish economy over a long period !  significant oversupply of housing stock !  inability of banks to provide mortgage credit !  reduction in demand due to declining personal financial circumstances and emigration

mean that there will be no recovery in the housing market in the near future.

What we want !  All hoardings to be removed !  The entire site graded, covered with topsoil and seeded with suitable grasses and plants

!  Area of proposed public plaza to be made safe,

landscaped, provided with lighting, seating and other furniture and made available for public use

!  Public access to south pier and harbour wall !  A joint implementation group of Greystones Town

Council, GUBOH, SISPAR and WCC to be formed to oversee the work involved

When we want it 1.  Public access to this amenity area to be restored by 1 July 2011

2.  The landscaping of the remainder of the site to be completed by 30 September 2011

3.  The remaining hoardings and railings around those parts of the site to be removed from 1 October

Medical Centre In the event that construction of the Medical Centre is approved:

!  We suggest the erection or retention of safety hoardings as needed

!  We would expect these to be in the area shown on the attached map

!  Site access as in current plans for the harbour

Conclusion !  We acknowledge that all this will require some investment on the part of the developer

!  We also accept that this might not be the most

desirable arrangement for SISPAR in the long term

!  We do not, however, believe that it is acceptable for

a developer simply to seal off the harbour and a large part of the coastline in an unsightly manner for an indefinite period purely on economic grounds
