The Basque Ecodesign Center is an organisation based in the Basque Country and structured pursuant to
a partnership framework between firms in the private sector and the Basque Government. It aims to foster
the design and execution of innovative ecodesign projects.
In November 2011, the Basque Ecodesign Center commenced its activities, listing among its founding
members six private firms from the Basque Country (Cie Automotive, Fagor Electrodomésticos, Gamesa,
Iberdrola, Ormazabal Velatia and Vicinay Cadenas). These firms joined Ihobe, the Basque Government’s
Environmental Management Company, as well as the driving force and co-ordinator of the Basque
Ecodesign Center project. Six months later, in March 2012, Euskaltel joined these founding members. The
center, therefore, is currently made up of seven private firms.
