How to improve your finances

Anybody can be at risk of getting into debt, missing out on benefits they’re entitled to or spending more than they should. Having a FREE financial health check with an A1 Housing Money Advisor can often prevent money problems and boost your financial health.

Why do I need a financial health check? Our Money Advisors understand that people can often get into difficulties as a result of a sudden change in their circumstances such as: • losing their job • relationship breakdown • reduced income • a bereavement • illness

Your financial health check

If you have any outstanding loans, catalogue debts and utility bill arrears then you should really get a financial health check to take charge of your financial situation. Even if you’re not experiencing financial difficulties now it’s worth having a financial health check. Our Money Advisors can work with you to reduce the chances of having financial problems in the future.

Our Money Advisors can see you at your home, or at one of our offices in Worksop, Retford, Harworth and Carlton in Lindrick. The process takes about an hour. The Money Advisor will help you to fill in an ‘income and expenditure’ form which asks for details about the money you have coming in and what you spend. They will then see if you could be claiming any extra benefits and / or tax credits and where your outgoings could be reduced, e.g. switching utility providers or getting a cheaper tariff with your existing company.

What happens after the check? The Money Advisor will explain your results and you’ll receive personalised advice on how to reduce your expenses and lower the risk of financial difficulty. If required our Money Advisor can directly refer you to Citizens Advice Bureau, Christians against Poverty and Framework Tenancy Support Service so that you can quickly access specialist advice and support to help you manage your money.
