Originally built in the 1940s, this farmhouse in Medina had been partially remodeled before Narr Construction took over the project. Charged with repairing many previous mistakes, correcting exterior architectural details, and completely refinishing the interior of the house, the result is an 8,000-square-foot home that fits the clients’ lifestyle perfectly.
• Square columns and operable shutters on the exterior reflect the timeless architecture of the house.
• Despite the home’s grand appearance, the interior stylings are warm and inviting. Reclaimed wood ceiling details draw the eye up and act as a focal point throughout. • The dining room and great room seamlessly flow together thanks to an open floor plan anchored by a woodburning fireplace and full height cabinets. • Through the expansive four-car garage, functional space—like a mudroom, powder room, and laundry room—keep the homeowners organized. • An all-new kitchen features a spacious island for gathering and a 48-inch gas range for whipping up gourmet meals.
Around the corner, a pantry conceals the refrigerator and food storage. • Don’t miss the new primary suite, complete with a spiral staircase and solarium on the south side.
• A family room, an office, and a future wine room on the lower level offer plenty of space for work and play. • A guest suite on the right side of the upper level includes a private entrance, a sitting area with wall-to-wall windows, and even a small bar area. Three additional guest rooms to the left invite visitors to spend the night. • Front and rear verandas create optimal wildlife viewing, while a brand-new screened-in porch surrounded by columns and outfitted with an oversized fireplace allows the homeowners to experience the outdoors bug-free.
The Homeownership Discussion
Housing First Minnesota has a proud legacy of showcasing housing opportunities and celebrating homeownership through our home tours. The homes in the Artisan Home Tour are a reminder of Minnesota’s proud legacy of innovation and craftsmanship.
Today’s housing market is certainly working well for some of us, but so many others face challenges in the search for a home of their own.
The community discussion around homeownership opportunities, both today and into the future, has never been more important.
Q&A
Home is all of it.Q:How can we grow homeownership opportunities for Minnesotans?
Experts across the board agree: Minnesota needs to build more homes to keep pace with our growing and diversifying population. We need a sustained surge in home construction over the next decade-plus.
All types of homes are needed, but this moment specifically calls for a focus on starter homes that are accessible to Minnesotans currently left out of the housing market.
Building starter homes releases the bottlenecks currently impacting the broader market and helps all Minnesotans.
What is limiting the construction of more starter homes?
Despite strong demand from Minnesotans, it has become increasingly difficult to build basic starter homes in our market.
This has happened in large part because our system of approving housing projects has become outdated. Our processes to advance projects and our approach to home size and design no longer align with the needs of many Minnesotans.
Modernizing the system to open opportunities for more starter homes lifts the biggest roadblock to more construction and would have an undeniably positive effect.
What are the experts recommending?
Build, build, build more homes.
The community value of a healthy housing market extends far beyond the home itself.
Experts cite immeasurable benefits from homeownership including better physical and mental health, enhanced educational outcomes, and stronger community investment. Homeownership also remains the best vehicle to create long-term, generational wealth.
We need to modernize our state’s approach to housing—we need to build more homes.
