It’s All Fun and Games by Georgi Sarafov

Palm Springs is an independent film, created by Andie Samberg, a comedian actor known from Saturday Night Live and his music band The Lonely Island. It is a direct time loop inspired movie, Groundhog Day with Bill Murray being the main source. There is no beating around the bush; the plot has been used before in several other films. The filmmakers are using it to their advantage by directly quoting those other ones, as the characters try to figure out the best way out of their predicaments. Just like David Duchovny in Californication, Samberg delivers a natural and effortless performance, despite the fact it was not written originally for him. He was planning just to be a producer but as he puts it “when you are doing an indie film, you don'tгет то кееп both the film and your dignity.” The cinematography is very well balanced between cinemascope type open landscapes and pretty interior shots, without giving it an indie film sterility. It does not aim at making it into the box office at all costs and that is exactly why the filmmakers have succeeded. Hulu is the streaming platform that financed the film. They are not as big as Netflix and HBO but that is not preventing them from making a quality product which gets noticed at the Sundance film festival, where unlike most other festivals, filmmakers and companies negotiate, buy and sell licences and distribution rights. The comedy, romance and the quasi sci-fi time loop theme, Palms Springs portrays wonderful acting, through which the characters also express the darker aspects of what makes them be. I can assure you one thing, you can feel it even through watching it for the first time. The film is going to stand the test of time and will be a source of inspiration and warm emotions. *** On the next day, while browsing through the movie posters thumbnails at fmovies.to, recommended by a Valtcho Georgiev, a good friend of mine (I know, sounds like a porn site but it’s not) that combines content from almost

I could not read the title at first but I saw it was Nic Cage, holding a

weapon and some creepy looking robot animals. So I put in the trailer just to see what the deal was. The premise is such: An old nerd with a muscle car, who does not speak throughout the whole film, obliterates animatronic amusement park animals, possessed by the spirits of serial killers, rapists and child molesters. All this, while being locked up and commissioned to be the janitor of the amusement park, as a way to pay for his broken car, damaged by the locals

strangers-into-town scheme to get victims for the park's demon possessed robots. The only moment of pure joy in between mopping floors and killing monsters is a vintage pinball machine that the main character enjoys playing. Cage is beyond the point of giving a fuck in the best meaning of that expression and has lots of fun while acting. It’s super cheesy and absurd which makes it a strange mixture of a farce, comedy and horror. Both films are entertaining in their own way, light to watch and a perfect choice when you get together with friends to watch something goofy, especially when you share the same sense of humor. Bat Gosho over and out.
