Environmental Sustainability Partnership
Best practice case studies Introduction to the Environmental Sustainability Partnership Environmental sustainability is a priority for the Bath and North East Somerset Local Strategic Partnership (LSP) and one of six themes of the Sustainable Community Strategy (SCS). The LSP recognises that the transition to a low carbon economy is essential to future resilience and prosperity as well as limiting future climate change. In February 2010, the LSP set up the Environmental Sustainability Partnership (ESP) to deliver the targets and aspirations contained within the SCS. The first task of the ESP is to tackle climate change, by providing the leadership to cut district-wide emissions by 45% by 2026 and ensuring that the district is resilient to the impacts of unavoidable climate change. By having Board members from different sectors, the ESP facilitates joined-up working and collaboration across Bath and North East Somerset.
About the case studies What follows are just a few examples of where environmental sustainability has already been embedded in activities across the district. You will see real variation in the type of activities and groups of people involved, demonstrating that environmental sustainability can be easily incorporated into all aspects of what we do and usually brings other benefits as well. The success of all of the projects and activities highlighted in these case studies is the result of good partnership working. Whichever partnership you are part of, you have opportunities to minimise environmental impact and embed environmental sustainability into your activities.
