What can the Family Information Service (FIS) offer? We are a statutory information service which delivers the requirements of the Childcare Act 2006, Section 12, information duty, for families with children and young people aged up to 20, or 25 if they have an additional need.

Work in partnership with Health Visitors and other Children’s Services professionals to deliver information to families

Help parents choose and access appropriate childcare and family support services by providing impartial information and advice about childcare options and benefits. This can be by telephone contact, one to one sessions and where necessary, accompanied visits to childcare providers

Provide support for parents and carers who may have difficulty in selecting an appropriate school place for their child by visiting schools and offering one to one sessions to families

Offer one to one sessions providing information on career and training opportunities for Working with Children and Young People.

Information, Advice and Guidance (IAG) FIS also works closely with families who do not have a regular wage or income, by offering one to one appointments and drop in sessions at local Children’s Centres.
