Inclusion is at the heart of Bath Spa University and these objectives are vital in our continued work in this area and ensuring that everyone at BSU thrives.
The Equality Objectives are monitored by the Equality and Diversity Steering Group (EDSG). They were created collaboratively following workshops with staff and students and conversations with people across the university and Students’ Union. We want these objectives to be well known across the university so that all of us embed Equality, Diversity and Inclusion in everything we do.

PEOPLE
Ensure we build a community that reflects the world we live in.
We will do this by...
• Review and monitor staff recruitment practices, recruitment and retention data.
• Building on skill sets of managers, through training and understanding processes, in order to support staff with protected characteristics.
• Review and monitor our access and participation plan, and student recruitment practices
6
CURRICULUM
Implementing our Decolonisation Action Plan and embedding equity to create curriculums that reflect, challenge and inspire our student body.
We will do this by...
• Implementation of the Decol Action Plan in order to close the award gaps, thereby creating an inclusive educational experience for our students.
• Embedding equity into the curriculum by including Academic Access Plans (AAP) and a reasonable adjustments statement
7
SPACES
Ensuring our spaces are accessible, safe and diverse to comfortably inhabit our diverse body of students and staff.
We will do this by...
• Ensuring gender neutral safe spaces, a multi-faith space, a quiet space, caring facilities, etc. to meet student and staff demands.
• Ensuring there are creative ways of making all our campuses accessible, and communicating this in a way that reaches the all staff and students.
• Creating a new builds policy that embraces equity and sustainability within our construction practices.
8
EMBEDDING
Embedding equity in all elements of student and staff life at BSU.
We will do this by...
• Increasing event and network participation from students and staff, creating time and space for them to engage.
• Embedding equality objectives in all schools and departments.
10
MESSAGING
Utilising our voices to embed equity into our activities.
We will do this by...
• Story ‘being’ instead of story ‘telling’; promote lived experiences and amplify voices through named examples of individuals thriving at Bath Spa.
• Continually updating our policies to ensure they reflect equity best practices.
• Maintaining inclusive and diverse language and imagery in all our communications.
