BECOME A SPECIALIST IN EARLY YEARS EDUCATION

The Early Years Initial Teacher Training qualification is the only teacher training programme focused on the 0-5 age range. It enables you to qualify to teach babies and young children while you’re employed in an early years setting.

Lead The Way In Educating And Caring For Babies And Young Children

As an Early Years Teacher you’ll have a positive impact on the lives of young children. You’ll develop leadership qualities, skills and expertise that you can share within nurseries, pre-schools and early years departments.

Train While You Work

This is a part-time course. You’ll study while you work and gain a Postgraduate Certificate in Education (PGCE) in Early Years alongside Early Years Teacher Status (EYTS).

Gain Broad Experience

A series of two-week placements (maximum 6 weeks in total) throughout the year allow you to teach across the 0-5 age range and gain experience in a Key Stage 1 class.

FULLY-FUNDED

The Department for Education is currently providing full funding for trainees starting in 2023*:

• £7,000 to cover your tuition fees

• £7,000 to cover your employer’s costs

HOW WILL I LEARN?

The course runs for 10 months on a part-time basis, which equates to one day a week at University. Your employment setting will be your main training location with additional short placements in at least one other school/ setting to develop your skills and expertise . We’ll meet with you regularly to ensure you’re supported to become a creative and caring early years teacher.

WHO CAN APPLY?

The EYITT with PGCE is designed for graduates who are already employed in an early years setting, or those newly recruited to undertake EYITT as part of their role.

To apply, you’ll need to be employed for at least 16 hours per week and working directly with children.

You’ll need an undergraduate degree in any subject and GCSE passes (grade 4+ / C or equivalent) in English, Maths and Science.

Career Opportunities

Bath Spa Early Years Teachers are ideally placed to fulfil the needs of employers for high-quality education and care for babies and young children.

Graduates can work in all private, voluntary and independent (PVI) early years settings and also free schools, academies and independent schools which can employ teaching staff without Qualified Teacher Status (QTS).

They can also go on to gain employment in various fields aside from teaching, including management of early years settings, in lecturing, advisory positions, teacher training, administration and educational outreach.
