"The University of Adelaide has a huge number of clubs and societies available to students. Climbing, mountain biking, wakeboarding, water skiing, trekking and slacklining were some of the regular activities that made my trip so exhilarating. I would 100% recommend the study abroad programme and can honestly say that the worst part about the exchange is leaving."

What support is available to me?
Do I need to speak another language?
Will the placement impact my final grade?
To help you with the process, our Go Global team will: • advise on accommodation options, • offer pre-departure and returners sessions, • offer continuous one-to-one coaching and advice, should you need it, • run regular drop-in sessions.
Most partner universities teach in English. However, in some countries, such as Mexico, Japan and Taiwan you’ll be expected to have some knowledge of the language. Additional language classes are usually provided by our partner universities.
The placement will not impact on your final grade, however, students who go abroad are more likely to earn higher degrees. You’ll need to complete the equivalent of 60 Bath Spa University credits during your semester abroad, but no actual grades will be transferred – the placement is pass or fail. Students are responsible for obtaining official transcripts and ensuring they are received by the Go Global team before credits can be successfully transferred.

SARAH WILKINSON BA (HONS) TEXTILE DESIGN FOR FASHION AND INTERIORS RESEARCH PLACEMENT, NAIROBI, KENYA
"The main reason for visiting Kenya was for a research trip. I wanted to have an insight into the locals' way of working within textiles, production and sales. To immerse myself into their lifestyle and collate first hand research for my final project by photographing the wildlife, people and landscapes. Also experiencing authentic Kenyan markets was an incredible opportunity for inspiration and research into colour, texture, materials and pattern."

JAMES FEARN BA (HONS) BUSINESS AND MANAGEMENT AND PSYCHOLOGY TRAINEESHIP PLACEMENT IN SPAIN
"I chose to do a placement abroad because I love to travel and it has always been an ambition of mine to work in another country and learn another language. My favourite thing about living and working in Valencia was meeting people from all over the world and now I have friends in Australia, New Zealand, The USA and many other European countries. I feel much more confident in my public speaking and presentation skills. I even gave a presentation in front of the entire office staff, including the owner of the company, which was daunting at first but I received positive feedback, which was great!"
Professional Placement Year (PPY) abroad The PPY is taken between your second and third year of your undergraduate degree, enabling you to take an extended period of work experience. You can go abroad during your PPY and make your work placement or placements international. Develop your skills, build your professional network, and gain a clearer picture of what your career path could look like, all in another country. If you want your career to be international after you graduate, a PPY abroad can be a fantastic place to start. Funding The fees during your PPY will be set at 20% of the cost of a normal full-time year at university. You can also apply for grants and bursaries designed to aid students travelling abroad for university work - find out more by contacting myfinance@bathspa.ac.uk.

Money matters There are many funding opportunities to help you with the costs of taking a trip abroad. Will my tuition fee change?
What costs am I likely to incur?
No. Your course and tuition fees will not change if you choose to take advantage of our international opportunities. You will only pay tuition fees to Bath Spa University. No tuition fees are payable at the exchange institution.
Costs will vary depending on where you're going. As a budget starting point, factor in the cost of insurance, visa fees, flights, accommodation, as well as food, local transport and social events. It is important to take these into consideration, however, we do have a range of funding opportunities available to help cover some of these costs.
Will I lose my funding from Student Finance England? No. You’ll be entitled to keep all your current student loans and grants from Student Finance England. In fact, you may even qualify for additional funding. If you receive funding from a source other than Student Finance England, make sure you always check the terms and conditions.
Other options
There are many other ways you can fund your stay abroad. There are a range of part-time jobs, crowdfunding campaigns and external scholarships available to you. These additional opportunities will not impact the funding you receive from Bath Spa. In fact, we encourage you to look into these external opportunities as you may be able to access more funding that way. Award

European Semester Abroad: Erasmus+ If you go abroad to study or work within Europe, you are eligible to receive an Erasmus+ mobility grant, which is allocated to you from money that comes from the EU Commission in Brussels and passes through the UK National Agency (the British Council) to individual universities. In order to receive the funding, you will be required to complete some essential Erasmus+ paperwork before you travel, including a Learning Agreement and a Grant Agreement. Bath Spa is able to continue to offer Erasmus+ funding to students until the end of the 2022/23 academic year, when we will no longer be able to participate in the Erasmus+ Programme. However, we are in the process of re-signing partnership agreements with our European partner universities to ensure that students can continue to participate in student exchanges with them in the future. Please note, now that the UK has left the EU, you may be asked to apply for a visa in order to live in your host country. Your host institution will provide you with instructions on how to apply for a visa.
