Feargus runs New Old Friends theatre company with his wife Heather Westwell. The company has established a national reputation for high-quality touring original comedy. Their latest show, Houdini’s Greatest Escape, has just completed a fifteen-week national tour and is currently running at one of London’s newest theatres – The Kings Head in Islington. Outside of New Old Friends Feargus has worked with Seabright Productions, Terrible Productions, and Absolutely Productions.
This is Feargus’ fourth year working with Bath Spa Productions, previous shows are Middle Class Gentleman, The Government Inspector and Habeas Corpus.
Working with Bath Spa Productions and the graduating students across the Acting, Comedy and Theatre, Festival and Event Production courses has become an absolute highlight of my year, and this production is no different. I love the freshness and enthusiasm that comes from working with wonderful creative minds at the beginnings of their careers, it is constantly surprising and engaging.
This year particularly some of the choices and interpretations the performing company have made has led me to think differently about characters within a play that I know well and long loved. It is a glorious thing to see something you hold dear through new eyes and discover again what makes Coward the genius he was and how his work can be refreshed with a new generation.
Our final performance is ninety-nine-years to the day from the very first performance of this play, I’m reliably informed, and there is still so much to enjoy and admire in the script and characters Coward created.
The entire company, cast, creatives and the faculty supporting all the students through the process, have been great to work with, freely giving their talent and effort in the pursuit of something extraordinary. I hope we have achieved that, and you enjoy the fruits of our collective labours.
Hay Fever, a 1920s comedy by Noël Coward, revolves around the quirky Bliss family and their weekend guests. The story is a whirlwind of misunderstandings, emphasising the family's charmingly unconventional nature. Expect comedic interactions, romantic entanglements, and theatrical flare-ups!
Presented by Bath Spa Productions this summer production is a collaboration between graduating Acting and Theatre, Festival and Event Production students.
This amateur production of “Hay Fever” is presented by arrangement with Concord Theatricals Ltd. on behalf of Samuel French Ltd.
