WELCOME Welcome to Third Space 2021 the annual Bath Spa Dance degree shows. This year’s programme includes 18 new live performances, presentations and short dance films. Art offers a powerful way for us to use our imaginations to be able to explore, question and re-present the world around us. This year’s emerging artists have worked in extraordinary circumstances in order to be able to demonstrate the creative potential of dance. We hope you enjoy the work. We hope you enjoy the work. TUESDAY 11 MAY 2021 1:30pm BEYOND US Choreographed & performed by Holly Appleton-Bartlett What you perceive is what you believe to be reality. But what you see is not what you could perceive. An intimate piece that explores sensory experiences. What lies within and beyond our perceptual reality and the limits we have as humans. What is beyond us? 2:.10pm ROOTS Directed/ Performed by Tsipora St. Clair Knights
If we are all actors in this world, then what role are you playing? And who for? ROOTS is a dance film that explores the many fragments that piece together to form our identity. Moments that flicker by have shaped the people we are today but who are we performing to? 2:50pm Well Done You Directed/choreographed by Celeste Thesiger-Meacham in collaboration with Ethan McKeegan, Paula Ocon, Pollyanna McKenzie-Howard and Harrison Yafai A choreographic exploration into the sensations of self-doubt, imposter syndrome and anxiety experienced during the creative process and in day-to-day life (made during a period of extreme self-doubt).
3:30pm Behind The Smile Created and performed by Rosie Pritchard Have you ever been to a theatre performance and wondered what it’s like to be a performer and enter the world backstage? Behind the curtains? Behind the scenes on a film set? Have you ever wondered what life is like behind the make up? Behind the eyes? Behind the smile? This choreographic piece explores the pressures and struggles performers face, and how a simple smile can disguise so much. 4:10pm Blood of the Covenant. Water of the Womb Choreographed by Gloriana Davies. Performed by Alice Chapman, Gloriana Davies, Lucy Hopkins, James Vallance and Harrison Yafai. ‘Homosexuality and lesbianism are exactly opposite to God’s purpose of creation’ - Reverend Sun Myung Moon. A dance performance exploring the experiences of a queer woman raised in a fundamentalist religious

WEDNESDAY 12 MAY 2021 1:50pm The Right to Leave the Room Choreographed by Despoina Kouri in collaboration with Anna Malina, Angela Miller, Divija Melally, Erin Green and Lucy Hopkins On day 1 the cell shall walk through the room. It shall abide by the rules. And it shall decide. This choreographic piece that investigates the limits of personal freedom. It pays tribute to the attachments that bind us since the moment of our birth. 2:30pm Caillte. Directed/Choreographed by Ruby Mc Alister Performed by Angela Miller, Edwina Pereira, Ellie Morgan-Shaw and Ruby Mc Alister “Caillte./lost/ adjective ‘that has been taken away or cannot be recovered’ Caillte is a dance film inspired by the tragedy of the Irish mother and baby homes. 3.10pm Terracotta Snails Choerographed by Evie Frost in collaboration with Natalie Austin, Raquel Dos Santos, Niamh Cockcroft and Fran Nicol Those in a greenhouse should not throw stones ...
3.50pm Tacit Directed by Bethany Ackerley An experimental dance film that explores touch and how this sense can be communicated through the medium of film. The technique of haptic cinema is used, where images are used to evoke close engagement with surface detail or texture to allow for contemplation of the image. In a year where touch has been deprived this film will allow you to immerse yourself into the felt sensation of touch. Allow your eyes and ears to become your skin... 4.10pm WISHBONE Directed by Erin Urquhart A dance film inspired by the works of photographer Edward Weston. Wishbone explores the use of medicinal plants through texture and sensation. 4.40pm The Unacknowledged Uterus Created by Natalie Austin in collaboration with Evie Frost, Raquel Dos Santos and Phoebe Woolley. Periods. Vaginas. Pain. Transitioning to knowledge, strength and unity.Yes. Periods. We are talking about them; they aren’t shameful, they are natural. The piece aims to explore the menstruation cycle and all that it encompasses. Through a connection to the inner self the work delves into societal constructs and attitudes towards menstruation. A collaboration between a group of women, who share their stories openly to encourage education and change. Remember your knowledge is your power.
THURSDAY 13 MAY 2021 1.30pm The Absurd Created by Ella Swannell and performed by Honor Ellis and Divija Melally . This expressive dance piece asks about the metaphysical existence of humanity. The thirst for knowledge drives the dancers into The Absurd.
2.10pm OUTLAND Directed by Emily Wright A dance film that presents natural and manmade settings in stark contrast, exploring the implications of living somewhere so defined by the allocated purposes of spaces we have built. 15:30 Contaporary Presented by Emily Lander and performed by Tsipora St Clair Knights and Emily Lander This lecture demonstration will be exploring possibilities of a relationship between tap and contemporary dance, with a specific focus on creating rhythms to lead the movement. It is a Q and A exploration exploring the question… “Is it possible these two styles of dance can support each other?” Hopefully, this presentation will give you an answer.
5.30pm To the Fourth Dimension Choreographed by Phoebe Woolley Height. Width. Depth. Time. A live art installation in ANG.01
9:00pm Desannence Choreographed by Anna Malina, performed by Despoina Kouri, spoken word by Marianne Tuckmann NOTE! This performance will take place in the foyer of the Michael Tippett Centre. The audience will watch from outside. Please bring your phone and a set of headphones to the performance.
