BURDALL’S YARD

8 January 2020 7:30pm Full Price £7 • Concessions £5 The Entertainer gives the audience what they want. The Artist gives the audience what they didn’t know they wanted. A mash up of comedy, theatre and song from Bath Spa University students and tutors down at Burdall’s Yard.

Dwelling

MICHAEL TIPPETT CENTRE

17 - 18 January 7:30pm Full Price £10 • Concessions £8 • Bath Spa Students £6 Filmed at Poltimore House, a derelict mansion in Devon, Dwelling explores the eeriness of ruins, when emptied of the human what remains in the disused and discarded places that are stained by time? It’s about the fleeting and eerie; the unknown. Things that we all know about but rarely consider as we tend to push them to the margins...only to return as ghosts. Combining film, live performance and vocal-looping, Dwelling attempts to make sense of stories that escape comprehension as it deconstructs the familial, the domestic, and the Gothic.

Skunk by Zawe Ashton

USTINOV THEATRE

30 January - 1 February 2020 7:30pm/Sat Mat 2:30pm Full Price £12 • Concessions £10 • Bath Spa Students £6 (Bookings via www.theatreroyal.org.uk or 01225 448844) Otto is a normal teenager with normal parents. They have the usual parent aspirations for him – Mum thinks Cambridge University, Dad thinks Arsenal Football Club. Life is the usual teenage combat zone. Until one day when Otto wakes up feeling pretty weird. He discovers, to his surprise, that he has been inexplicably transformed into a skunk. Inspired by Kafka’s novella The Metamorphosis, Zawe Ashton’s Skunk takes a surreal, dreamlike and hilarious look at the pressures and transformations that happen as teenagers grow up. Presented by third year acting students. All performances will be captioned and integrated signed performances on 30th and 31st.

21 February 2020 8pm Full Price £12 • Concessions £10 • Bath Spa Students £6 Danced with full-bodied urgency and gutsy power, this raw visceral and emotive work from choreographer Victoria Fox creates a fragile world of simmering tensions and unrest. The work channels the resilient, unapologetic nature of the iconic poem by Maya Angelou. An unflinching relentless hope for the human spirit runs through this dance work. Cinematic sounds from pounding beats to stirring classical arias, drives the journey onwards. Falling down, gathering up… we rise.

“David Glass ...a modern master” Dominic Cavendish, The Times.

Shining, a terrifyingly enjoyable immersive piece inspired by Stanley Kubrick’s classic horror film The Shining. Devised with third year acting students and directed by David Glass. Regularly appearing in lists of the most well loved films around the world, Stanley Kubrick’s film ‘The Shining’ is a master work in horror. Centring as it does on madness and the family and set in the isolated Overlook Hotel, International Theatre maker David Glass returns to Bath Spa University - after the visually stunning Bleak House last September - to present the second iteration of ‘Shining‘. A powerfully thrilling hour of horror that reimagines this iconic horror in a constantly changing and haunted film set. Unlike any immersive theatre you’ll have seen before. (This production will not be seated and the audience will be moving around the performance space - running time 60mins).

This is one of the greatest operas ever written and is presented by students from Bath School of Music and Performing Arts.
