ARTIST IN RESIDENCE SHARJAH ART FOUNDATION
The objective of this project was to design for two artists in a courtyard house where they are able to work and live.

The concept focuses on the idea of the furniture loop, which is made of plywood with built-in furniture. The built-in furniture is carved into the loop using different materials that represent the spaces which seperate the living and working zones.

The objective of this project was to design three different programs in once space: a cafe, market, and restaurant.

The concept of this project focuses on the sculptural partitions that organize the space and vary in height according to the experience. All spaces in this project create the experience of always being between walls of varying height and depth of space.

MATERIALS TOOLS & STRATEGIES CAAD WOOD SHOP
The objective of this project was to experiment with various materials and concepts to end up with a final model of 15 cm X 15 cm X 30 cm. Afterwards, use the concept and apply it to the restaurant design in Mirdif City Centre.

This project started with the use of different materials and techniques such as burning foam and using the air die grinder on hard wood. Then the process proceeded on to using the grinder on black MDF. Finally, the grinder, air die grinder, and dremel were used on plywood to execute the final model. The strategies used were layering and carving out.

RESTAURANT DESIGN MIRDIF CITY CENTRE
The objective of this project was to use the concept from the material exploration project and apply it to the restaurant design.

The concept of this project was the idea of carving out stone and making spaces out of it. The carvings begin from the bottom in most spaces and they relate to the human scale, then they make their way up to the ceilings. There is a strong contrast in the restaurant between the untouched stone and the carvings.

The objective of this project was to design a residential unit that is sustainable and self-sufficient by using shipping containers.

The concept of this project was designed around the idea of Arab family gatherings. The design began by creating interior and exterior dining areas, where gatherings take place. Recycling materials and sustainability were mainly used to create interior/exterior relationships throughout the house and maintaining a modern aesthetic.

The objective of this design build was to refurbish a CAAD studio space, The plan is to rework the entire space and consider all aspects pertaining to the studio which include furniture, lighting, pinup spaces, storage space, common area, and a display area.

These components are divided into two phases, Spring 2021 we dealt with floor (wiring and flooring) and all the furniture (new desks, storage units, communal table and discussion area). In phase two, Spring 2022’s IDE students will be designing and building the perimeter (pinup boards, extra storage and displays).

The objective of this project was to refurnish a studio in New York in one week.

ASSISTANT PROFESSOR JUAN ROLDAN SUMMER 2021 IN COLLABORATION WITH LAILA MATRHJI, RAJAA TAYE
RELOUNGE INDEX 2021 PAVILION
The objective of this project was to design a sustainable pavilion for Consentino Middle East in Index 2020. We had to occupy a footprint of 32sq mtrs and to integrate waste material from cosentino as flooring, furniture, and walls.

The pieces of furniture were built using a notch technique, which was inspired from the Charles and Ray Eames’ “House of Cards”. The bench was made out of Silestone Calacatta Gold. As for the flooring, we used the scrap slabs to the maximum to create a patchwork of smaller strips with various sizes and collections. The graphics on the back wall shows Cosentino’s sustainability model.

The objective of this of this project was design a cart and choose what to sell in it.

This cart sells abayas, sheilas (head scarves). and oud; therefore, it is called “Grand Closet.” The design of the cart focuses on asymmetry. that resulted from the idea of having the wheels on the left side larger than the ones on the right side. Therefore, the frame of the cart is higher on the left than the right. This cart has a sense of trasnparency, where someone can see a person from the other side wile shopping.
