Tuesday is the last day of a special year for North Battleford. The centennial of the city has been celebrated, the memorabilia has been gathered up and a time capsule will be settled safely away – to be opened in another 100 year’s time. “We are very excited to preserve some of our community’s artifacts for future generations,” Tammy Donahue Buziak, chair of the Cityof North Battleford 2013 Centennial Committee, has said. “It is our goal, with this centennial time capsule, to showcase our community during 2013. the city’s newest cultural facility, the Dekker Centre for the Performing Arts, with a 1 p.m. event planned to give residents a chance to see the artifacts to be placed in the time capsule for the last time, and to bid goodbye to 2013. Items prepared for inclusion in the time capsule include photographs, school art from children, postcards to the future, a complete penny collection, newspapers, currency, children’s charter, posters, poems and a letter from the mayor, as well as other important memorabilia. The general public could purchase an envelope to be sealed inside the capsule for a $20 donation. With its treasures, the time capsule will be placed at the exact spot where the 1988 capsule was placed, and which was opened in May as part of the yearlong celebrations. That will happen in the spring of 2014 when the weather warms up. And now on to 2014.
