Arkansas Children’s Hospital Arkansas, USA Arkansas Children’s Hospital project was one of the most detailed projects that I had contributed in during my internship at CBBLD. I had chance to involve into the project at concept phase which allowed me to brainstorm with my other team members and throw my own initial ideas. We were responsible of lighting of all (4) floors of the building as well as some exterior parts such as entrance canopies. For each of areas we presented various possible options to the client and had communicated them periodically. I was responsible of drafting CAD layouts, calculating light levels for various areas, preparing luminaire schedules, energy calculations and revising submittals. 6

220 Central Park South Towers New York City, USA Central Park South Towers are located at the south side of Central Park in NYC. We were responsible of interior residences lighting, amenity floors and exterior lighting. I was working mostly on interiors. I prepared CAD layouts for all interior floors and amenities as well as worked on lighting calculations, energy calculations and submittals.

Master Thesis - Virtual Reality and Public Lighting

A public space is an area that is generally open to the public and accessible by

users. These spaces may consist of squares, streets, parks, etc. Due to safety concerns as well as visual comfort reasons, lighting these areas properly is crucial. Thanks to the recent developments in technology, the spaces where we spend our considerable amount of time can be transformed into more habitable places to maximize comfort and usability.

Today, technology has redefined what is possible when it comes to Architec-

tural Lighting Design (ALD). New visualization techniques and computer software can save both money and energy but, more importantly, can help facilitate the many different users’ needs and demands. In this context, Virtual Reality (VR) technology was chosen for this study in order to explore a new method for research in Public Lighting. This project was defined to better understand the diverse perceptions, preferences, and expectations of the occupants in public spaces. Another aim was to evaluate the efficiency of integration of VR and ALD.

Data for this research were gathered with the help of a virtual 3D public area

environment that was built using Unity3D computer software. The 3D modeling involved creating 5 scenes with lighting variations. The next step was immersing the participant into these environments by using a smartphone combined with compatible VR goggles. Then the participants were asked to express their perceptions and emotions related to the lighting scene they are experiencing with the help of a questionnaire.

Analysing the results provided clear ideas towards end-users’ Public Lighting

tendencies. On the basis of the results of this research, it can be concluded that the balance between vertical and horizontal lighting is essential when it comes to public lighting design applications. At this point, VR becomes a handy tool to understand this context and connections.

Hochschule Wismar Light&Building Booth Design We were asked to create a blobby plan, an illustration, a realistic image and a sketch of booth of Hochschule Wismar at Light&Building 2016. The idea of the booth I created was to illuminate the area evenly with downlights as well as creating a special location for private conversations with the help of a pendant fixture with warm color temperature.

Hochschule Wismar Wismar Train Station Master Plan During the first semester of my studies, our design project was “Wismar Train Station Lighting Master Plan. We started with a mind map and defined the problems of the area and how can we improve those with using proper lighting throughout the area. We also thought about the strong points and weaknesses of the area. In order to analyse this, we used SWOT method. We divided the area into three main sections : Train Station, forecourt and the main road to the station including the gardens. Our design concept consists of functional, aestatic and sustainable elements. We wanted to create a balance between the brightness and color temperature throughout the area. The last part of the project was the design phase and we divided the area into several parts again and made lighting calculations.

Bar&Lounge Lighting Wismar The main concept of this design is dynamism. I used various elements from music such as equalizer, stage and sound waves. The first element I used is an equalizer. I wanted to create a spesific atmosphere for the guests while changing the color of the shelves. Depending on the music which is playing at that moment, the shelves’ color would be blue, red, yellow or mix of all which would appear like an equalizer. In order to achieve that, I installed color changing LEDs at the back of the shelves. The second element is stage. I wanted this space to be also used by the music bands. Therefore, I created a platform which can be used for the live performances. I believe, the combination of this live performances and the dynamism I created with using the other elements would allow the guests to have nice experience. The third and the last element is sound waves. I wanted to create a sound wave shaped ceiling which is supporting my dynamism concept. I installed LED stripes to the edges of the ceiling structure to provide indirect lighting to the space.

Lighting Visualization Wismar In this elective class, we were asked to create a blobby plan, an illustration, a realistic image and a sketch of an interior or an exterior area. The main idea was to comprehend how the light can be shown with the help of software and hand sketches. During the process, I used Photoshop, Illustrator, Sketchbook, 3dsMax and Vray.

Lighting Design Workshop Wandlitz Wandlitz is another small town near Berlin. My group was working on the façade of the train station. This building has a great importance for the history of the town because it has been the only station throughout the town and it connects the town with the others, particularly with Berlin. There is a small lake located 200 meters away from the building and we wanted to take “dynamism of water” as a concept. We built a water dripping system which created waves in the water tanks, then we reflected these waves to the outer walls of the station with the help of the luminaires we positioned underneath the water tanks.

17

Lighting Design Workshop Neuruppin Neuruppin is a small town near Berlin and we had a chance make a workshop there in order to practice what we had learned. We were working on the Water tower. The Water Tower is currently one of the highest landmarks in Neuruppin which can be seen throughout the town. It was being used to supply water to the citizens. In the light of this information, we wanted to create a smooth water flow animation on the top part of the tower to point at to the former use and created a contrast with using warm colors in the main body which enhanced the beauty of the structure.

18

Campus Open Air Workshop Wismar This project was a group project which we prepared for the Campus Open Air Party in Hochschule Wismar. The main concept and the idea was; -Creating an intimate and warm space, -Reflecting the fun and festive atmosphere of the event, -Concept of camping, -Act as a place of refugee for those weary from the concert, -Offer a fun gathering space and a possible meeting point.

Hochschule Wismar Luminaire Design We were asked to create our own luminaire design and we had to be inspired from a poem or a quote. Here you can see the poster that I created for my luminaire which also exhibited in 2016 IMM Cologne International Furniture Fair. ”Path”, The journey of light “Logic will get you from A to B. Imagination will take you everywhere.’’ Albert Einstein There are many ways to reach your aim. Some of them are basic methods, the others are challenging ones. It is all up to you to choose how you want to get a task done. A solution including imagination will allow you to discover another world.

High School Project Istanbul, Turkey The client had asked us to renovate the interior of the school building. We tried to create a modern and functional design, also tried to use the daylight as efficiently as possible. I created these images with 3dsMax, Vray and Photoshop.

23

Beauty&Spa Center Cagliari, Italy During my Erasmus Internship Experience in Italy, I was mostly working on a beauty and spa center project. These images show the entrance room and the massage room I designed with 3DMax. The renderings were made with both 3DMax and Vray.

Restaurant Project Istanbul, Turkey In this project, the client asked us to create a dynamic form. We wanted to use curves, reflective materials and also natural materials like wood. I’ve created these images with 3dsMax and Vray.

25

Residential Buildings Gaziantep, Turkey In this project we were mainly focused on the facade and we were trying to find a solution to block the intense sunlight, but at the same time trying to create a well looking design. I created these images with 3dsMax, Vray and Photoshop.

26

Residential Buildings Gaziantep, Turkey In this project, we wanted to combine the residential area with nature. We used many green elements and try to create many open spaces for the residents. I created these images with 3dsMax and Vray. Post-production was made with Photoshop.
