Cooler year, no lees stirring. Slightly different vineyard composition compared with the 2009 Antonio. In some ways the fruit is more obvious than on the 2009 though there's also greater freshness and this seems a little less minerally and complex.

Both ripe citrus and vegetal notes. The oak is more visible, a rare chance to experience one of Portugal’s unicorns.

Maybe it will be this year! Refosco is rare and lovely, loaded with spice, pepper and damson, really sure-footed and not dissimilar to a decent Côtes du Rhône.

ALMA 2006 Aquileia Rosso DOC Refosco (50%), Cabernet Sauvignon (30%), Merlot (20%) Alma is Valpanera’s ‘Super-Friulian’ and like its Tuscan cousins it is a convincing marriage of the local Refosco del Peduncolo Rosso (50%) and Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot, all aged in barrique for 18 months.

Definitely a food wine for substantial meals.
