933 N PENN ST | NORTHERN LIBERTIES, PHILADELPHIA, PA
The intent of the project design is to create a portal connecting the city of Philadelphia to the Delaware Waterfront. The site embraces the Delaware River and aims to revitalize the waterfront by inviting pedestrians to engage in riverside activities which are open to the public and nearby residents alike. Visitors access the site on foot along North Penn Street through existing pathways. The L-shaped residential buildings flank the entryway to the waterfront plaza and embrace the river with their formal gesture. The shape and position of the building was configured to maximize daylight in reaction to the residential towers next door. The building steps down towards the water which creates communal terraces for the residents. This form allows views to the waterfront as well as towards the city. The site focuses on engaging with the river by having the water cut through the piers and providing space for water activities such as paddle-boating or kayaking, as well as spaces to interact with the local ecology through viewing decks that extend into the water. With consideration for flood mitigation on site, there are bio masses and breakwaters along the profile of the existing piers. These breakwaters help to reduce the damage caused by flooding - especially with the increased frequency due to climate change - while also restoring the natural habitats and revitalizing the ecology along the riverside.

this was a group project for an international competition that our studio was participating in. the competition prompt was about redefining international borders, particularly in places with conflict or ambiguous relationships. the project was done within the span of about month. the main concept for this group project proposal is introducing water as a soft border between these three countries as a way to unify and bring peace and prosperity to the people, featuring a centralized checkpoint.

shown here are the detailed plans for the project proposal which show the entry conditions in the ground floor which starts at grade, enters a bus and transportation building which then brings visitors partially underground through a shallow slope along a hallway leading to the central circulation checkpoint which is responsible for the security of all visitors and international travelers. the ground floor opens up to a large shared plaza with programs such as a visitor’s center, international hall, hotel, amphitheatre, and an open-air market for local vendors to sell their wares. the roof plan shows the top view of the tensile structure and how the light holes and structure reside on site.
this group project focused on redefining what a border is and how they are treated as dividers between nations. this particular project focuses on the border between india and pakistan, and as decided by the group for the year 2074, the newly independent nation of kashmir. this page features a map showing the designated geographical separation of these countries as well as population density across the regions. the graphs above show some climatic data regarding the precipitation and temperature changes throughout the year.

CLIMATIC DESIGN PROPOSAL Due to the overall climate in New Zealand being below typical comfort levels, we will use passive design strategies to maximize solar heat gain on the building. Some strategies we will be utilizing are orienting the building’s north facade towards the sun and applying window glazing to maximize direct sunlight for solar heat gain.

these photos were taken as part of a final project for the digital photography course. this sample of photos are from the final collection that was composed around the concept of capturing the essence of autumn. using techniques learned through basic camera settings and editting with programs such as Photoshop and Lightroom, these are some of the highlights and the culmination of a semester of learning.
